This is the best video on how to do this on UA-cam. I appreciate your ingenuity and that you thought to film how to! Many thanks!
That is really kind. Thank you very much!
Great video. Learned a lot. Found a good trick for squeezing the air bag. Use hose clamps instead of zip ties. Tighten the clamp, slide up, loosen the clamp, slide down and repeat.
Nice tip! Thanks for watching and commenting!
people assume the air bags are springs they are not, they hold the attitude of the rv at rest when you inflate, they also keep the harmonics of the spring from getting violent,if your rig came with them, replace them, they are cheap and now that i learned how to heat them for flexibility thanks to you,its a cake walk, thank you, never run without them,1993 FLEETWOOD FLAIR,7.4 TBI 4L80E TRANS,GOOD UNIT FOR 85,000 MILES ONE SET OF BAGS,THANKS AGAIN
Thank you for watching and adding to the discussion!
Awesome video! Thank you!!! Got both front bags replaced yesterday thanks to your video! Much appreciated!
It's great to know that the video was helpful. Thank you!
Thanks for the video, I am in a campground with a failed P32 front airbag 500 miles from home right now. Waiting for the rain to stop so I can crawl back under the coach and finish removing the leaking airbag. With luck I will have a replacement arriving tomorrow, I hope that watching your video helps speed up the installation process.
Ike Stewart . Oh Ike. It's horrible to
Be stranded. At least you are at a campground. Get as much clearance as you can, and get yourself comfortable. I removed my bag with the wheels still on the vehicle, but it would be a lot easier to take it off. The long handled plumbers pliers were a great help. Mole grips/locking pliers would be a substitute.
Keep the faith, and just keep chipping away at it.
I got stuck today with a defective autobrake, on my way to have an MOT test. It's all fun and games eh?
Good luck, and do check back in to let us know how you got on.
Patiences really is the key on cutting up the air bag for removal, I kept thinking I had enough of it cut and it should pull out, I would try for a bit, then go back to cutting, and suddenly once bits started coming out the rest was easy. I did end up running to Harbor Freight (cheap import tool shop) and buying a pair of long handle needle noose pliers and a small folding tree pruning saw which worked much better than the bread knife I started out with. I feel your pain about the automatic parking brake, mine blew a hole in the hardline a few weeks ago and left me stranded on the side of the road about 4 miles from home (outside radius of a bend in the hard line blew a hole). Thankfully I was able to add a quart of fluid and limp along another 3 miles to a shop.
The pruning saw is a good idea. I always have one in the rig, but didn't think of using it. Thanks for the tip!
Autobrake was leaking from the warning light pressure sensor, and had been for ages by the looks of things. All fixed up now.
all my bags are destroyed in the springs.& missing pieces! gonna convert to airbags for front & rear. new shocks too. (p30)
Big project! Let me know how you get on. Thanks for commenting!!
Most people simply unbolt the shock, jack up the chassis, and remove the whole spring with bag, then reverse. Nothing like a creative solution such as you had here to make a one hour job last all day. You should do this kind of work professionally; you'd make a mint!
Hey, thanks for the tip. You should make a video!
Thank you very much for this video I have the same exact rv with the bag problem.if you don't mind I will be having future inquires about your RV and tips as well.
Thanks again👍
Megga cool ball glad you found the video useful. Feel free to ask anything. My aim is to demystify RV maintenance. Thanks a million for subbing, it’s really great to have more followers!
FoxRV thank you very much
Hi fox rv HOW ARE THE AIR BAGS HOLDING UP HAVE THEY ANY DAMAGE WITH RUBING UP AGAINT THE SPRINGS
Still going strong. Crossed Europe 5 times since fitting them!
will the air bags provide some lift to the rig at the campsite for leveling the rig?
very inspiring Fox!
I have a 2004 P32 Chassis. Ordered springs rated for my front end from Henderson's Line Up . Now I don't need the stupid air bags.
you didn't say you pulled the valve stem out. But I heard the air exiting when you squeezed the tube.
Good trick w/the hot water... Hardest part was the cutting & removal - 1 hour for the 1st side then only 20 minutes for the 2nd. :)
I totally agree. Getting the old ones out was a total chore. I was so pleased when I got to that point!
I will be subbing
Please update your travels
Greetings from the U.S.
Hi Campos. Back in March 2019 I rode my motorcycle to the UK to look after my elderly mum over lockdown. My career in the outdoor music industry is no longer viable and we can't leave the UK at the moment, so I'm still here trying to raise enough funds to continue exploring this strange and interesting planet. I can't wait. It's been such a long time. Thank you so much for commenting!!!
@@FoxADV when possible a small update video..I am positive others are curious as well...
I saw your install vids which helped me very much...I own a gm motorhome/rv with a p series chassis...
Good health to your family and you
Cheers
@@camposvazquez You are right of course! It took me a little while, but here it is! ua-cam.com/video/9EiODGw763M/v-deo.html. It's not RV based as I'm still away from my home, but it's something at least. Thank you for the encouragement and your words of kindness. Stay safe. Have fun!
@@FoxADV thank you..... It's an update we have been waiting for..... Hopefully all is well and your can maintain the momentum.... Cheers
What is the model number of the air bag? I also have a workhorse 2001.
Will 2001 Chevy P30 work also? Tnx
Hi Jo
Go to the files section on my website, and look under "Chassis/Airbag": www.foxrv.uk/files

That should give you all you need!
Sorry for the delay in reply.
All the best

FoxRV I installed mine about 2 weeks ago. I used reciprocating saw with long blade. I put coconut oil to push it in that small hole. I did not have to put air on it. It slides all the way with a little bit more push. Tough job. I won't buy an RV with an air ever :). I also installed the hose on my bumper where the tag is screwed on. Thanks for the video.
Great work. The coconut oil was a great idea, there seems to be a never ending list of uses for it! There are higher rated springs available, that don't need the bags, but I imagine you've discovered that already. I'm in two minds on the concept. I've had a few rigs that are old and saggy, but never got around to changing the springs. Changing bags, despite being a pain, is I think easier.
Happy travels!
Next time. JUst flatten the bag out and put the cap on. Raise RV high enough to fit the bag through the spring. You can also drop the plate down through there as well.
Joseph Ankney Interesting. I did look at that and there was nowhere near enough space. Maybe my springs are too old and tired. Thanks for the tip!
@@FoxADV heavy duty springs do not allow u 2 squeeze thru them i tried
smoothoperator Ah thanks. That makes total sense.
Good job. Wish me luck
Good luck man!
Does the airbag raise and lower the front end or does it simply firm up the ride?
Both. Particularly useful is the ability to counter sag on the rear. But the same effect is apparent on the front springs too. Maybe 3" lift on the front.
I found raising RV enough to remove wheel made job much easier.
I tried that for the removal. I found the space under the spring to be a little limiting, so I put the wheel back on. On reflection though, I think you're right. I could have used an additional jack to bring the hub back up.
I was down under her and chip drop the bag and problem with leaks jeez your right i need to watch someone else
David Egbert I hope to get it sorted soon. Make yourself comfortable under there. Stay safe!
Why don't they sell the stupid air bags compressed and tie wrapped???
I think with some applications you thread them through the coils of the spring.
Good Job! Hot water...I never would have thought! I didn't see you put the top support ring in, but I suppose you did that in the beginning! Thanks for the good video!
Thank you so much for the comments and the Sub!
