  • Everything you ever wanted to know about the Sire V5 Fretless bass. Yes, it's all here - sound examples, overview of instrument, comparisons to boutique fretless basses, guest artist performing on it and giving a second opinion, partial autopsy of the bass, weight of tuners, how it balances on a strap, quirks of the instrument, construction quality, and more. As a result, this review is long, but if you are a potential buyer then this is just the video you are looking for.
I bought this bass slightly used with my own money and have no affiliation with Sire. All the sound examples used in the video (at least the ones I played) are original creations copyrighted by Brent Haeseker 2022 - 2023. Sound example played by guest artist Ian Burns are assumed to be random jamming and are attributed as ownership of Ian Burns, unless I'm informed otherwise.
I titled each section of the video, in the video, so it hopefully makes it easier to jump around to different sections on the time line.
I'm just a guy on the internet making a video. I spend a lot of time making these videos. If they are helpful to you, let me know and subscribe to my channel. If you don't like the video, just be kind - there's lots of other videos on the internet to enjoy.
If you are interested in having my review one of your products, please let me know.

Excellent review. I’m on the fence between this and the V7 Fretless and the new redesigned Sadowskis. Unfortunately, can’t play or find in person. Thank you for the video.

The neck on the V5 is worth every penny in my opinion. And, if you want active like V7, you can upgrade to a John East, Audere, or other similar preamp control plate. Sadowsky is always a brand I'd love to finally own, but other than maybe being lighter than the Sire, I'm not sure it would be worth the price jump. Just my thoughts.

NEW flats will feel “draggy”. This is counterintuitive but I like to put oil on my strings, like a lemon oil for a fretboard. I also never clean them. In fact, I play new flats after eating without washing my hands. The funk is in the gunk!

I just ordered flats for my Sire P5. I use Fast Fret on all my rounds, and I will do on the flats too. Works wonders I think.

Interesting idea on the oil. I don't need this for the Chromes as they are not draggy at all, but I'm experiencing draggy-ness on LaBella LTF's that I'm testing on a Jazz bass.

Hadn't thought of this either, but will look into it.

Just now seeing this. Is that an unlined fingerboard? Love the way it matches with the body finish.😳

It looks like there aren’t lines because of the roasted maple fingerboard. Usually on a maple fretless fingerboard you use black binding and black fret lines, just like this… but when it’s *roasted* maple…. All of the dark accents get lost. Sire should have treated it like a rosewood fingerboard and used a white or cream binding and white lines. But it’s cool to see how many different shades the roasted maple necks are from different reviews, photos and my personal bass.

Check your favorite music equipment dealer or Google prices online. It will vary over time based on list price, sale price, inflation, etc. I did not buy mine new.

Hey, you didn’t have the electronics loud enough for me to hear the actual base I heard more of the un amped base than I did the amped base need to turn up that amp just a little bit. I know you work in a worship team I work in a worship team as well, you should turn up your base a little bit. I know they don’t like it loud but the base is very important in a worship team the base clears the air of evil spirits look it up. 47:55
