Nissan sells more Rogue compact crossovers than any other vehicle it makes. For 2018, the Rogue maintains the cargo room, cabin comfort, and price point that have helped make it such a hit and adds a driver-assistance feature that would be less surprising on the features list for a luxury vehicle. The Rogue’s popularity makes it a great launching pad for Nissan’s new available ProPILOT Assist technology, which can help control speed and steering during single-lane highway driving and will eventually arrive in more Nissan vehicles.
All Rogues get a 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder that produces 170 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque and mates with a continuously variable transmission, earning ratings of 26 mpg highway, 33 highway, 29 combined in front-wheel-drive versions and 25, 32, 28 with all-wheel drive. Our reviewer calls the drivetrain underpowered and rough, but finds the cabin comfortable, roomy, and well laid out, and he appreciates the Divide-N-Hide system’s flexibility for cargo. I got the first traffic ticket for over speeding when I was driving a rental Rogue. I didn't even feel I was driving at 90mph on a 70mph highway. I won't say rogue is slow or not fun to drive.
I always read these comments about CVT’s and never understand the negativity behind them. I have owned many vehicles with everything from traditional automatics to CVT’s to Dual Clutch Transmissions. Each has its strengths and weaknesses but overall, the CVT has the best combination of fuel economy without the loss of performance. I’ve driven Subaru OUTBACK with a CVT, my 17 Civic had a CVT, and several Nissan’s I’ve owned had them. Nissan has the best ones, by far. Not a single issue with any of them. I have 2 vehicles now with Dual Clutches (Golf R and a Tucson) and they are great for sporty driving, but both are notch/jerky at take off which is annoying.
I think the CVT is better overall. Some 4 cylinder cars don’t have enough torque so they seem weaker till revs get up there while those with turbos or V6’s will feel much more natural. Regardless, if CVT’s were so bad then manufacturers like Subaru, Toyota, Honda, Nissan and others would not be switching to them for the bulk of their cars.
Bart Warner Nissan makes one of the worst in the business. Drive a Subaru or Honda CVT and there a huge difference.
Blake Swan my aunt owns an Outback with a CVT and I owned a 17 Civic Touring till recently. I’ve spent much time driving both. I despise the one in the Subaru, it’s awful. The Civic was ok but not nearly as smooth as the ones I’ve had in my Nissans. The step logic that Nissan introduced goes a long way towards acting like a regular transmission and Honda’s CVT is suppose to be like that but I hardly ever felt it work. I give credit to Nissan for sticking with the CVT and constantly working to improve it. Maybe CVT’s aren’t for you but they definitely are not bad transmissions.

“If CVTs are so bad....why are...switching to them”. The government is forcing them to comply with higher mpg standards. Many years ago, they did things like put thinner metal on walls of automatic transmission in Crown Victoria to make them lighter. Save weight anywhere to get better mpg, long term reliability be damned. CVTs get better mpg, no question. But most enthusiasts do not like them. Still though, I appreciate your personal experience and opinion. 👍🏻
Steve Printy it’s true that automakers are trying everything to meet fuel MPG requirements. Change is inevitable. Most people who drive cars are not enthusiasts, they are people more concerned about getting from point A to B with safety, room, and the latest and greatest gadgets. People who are passionate about driving performance will never be happy with regular basic transportation like the majority of people will. Automotive journalist need to stop bashing cars and SUV’s that don’t drive like a 911 and start being realists.

Go test drive a Mazda CX-5 and you'll understand. I just bought a 2018 Rogue SV but my friend's CX-5 is by far funner to drive. I chose cabin space, comfort, and extra cargo room.
I just bought one and I love it
Yesterday I bought a 2018 Rogue SL AWD for my girlfriend. I didnt really like it at first, until I drove it a couple of times and now I truly enjoy driving it. The drive is fantastic in it however it is underpowered.
New drinking game, chug back every time one of these reviewers says "turbo" when their test vehicle isn't a race car. I'd get the SV which is nicely equipped.
I don't know about "slow and not fun to drive". If you can out run it, then yeah, it is slow. Remember, it is not built to race in a race track. It is designed to take from point A to point B governed with regulation and speed limits.

I don't have a pony is this race as I don't own a Rogue, but why when referring to automated safety features (@ 4:25), the pricing is being compared to the Honda Accord & Toyota Camry? That is an unfair comparison as one is an SUV and the other two are cars.
Most people want a swiss army knife. However there is no manufacturer that can give you the cargo capacity of a box truck and the 0-60 and handling of high end sports car, yet all the reviews seem to be based on this false premise. Yes, the Rogue "could be" a little more peppier, but if you want a sports car feel, get a CX-5. But don't complain that it doesn't have the cargo capacity of a Rogue - let alone a box truck.
Beware of the Rogue's automatic braking system! My daughter's 2018 model is activating the brakes for no reason! Dealer cannot replicate the problem but it's now becoming a complaint by other owners. You can bypass the automatic braking system via the dash controls, but, you must do this each & every time the vehicle is turned off & started again. Can the actual radar sensor be disconnected to keep the automatic braking turned off without having to key this info in each time the car is started?
Nissan now has a reprogram for the automatic emergency braking system. Drive with confidence!!
They need to offer the VC-T 2.0 engine in the Altima dammit! That would make the Rogue an perfect all-round vehicle. It's just too slow for daily all season use especially at altitude.
No mention of how well its AWD handles snowy conditions? I don't expect to see cars like the Rogue tackling Moab, but some ugly snow is a different matter.
We have a 2017 Rogue AWD SV.
The only thing that will get this vehicle stuck is ground clearance. To say it excels in the worst driving conditions is an understatement. Drive with confidence!!

Shoot, I have a 2014 Nissan Rogue and LOVE that vehicle. It is definitely fun and effortless to drive. Just test drove 4 2018-2020 SUVs for purchase. Honda CRV (2019), Mazda CX-5 (2020), CHEVY Equinox (2018 and 2020), Jeep Cherokee (2020 I believe), and must say handling wise I saw nothing noticeably better about their handling to wow me over my Rogue. That little suv is fun to drive. FYI, wife loves the Rogue but doesn’t want us to have two 😞, can’t really argue there.

Do you know the reason why it is slow or not fun to drive? I will tell you. It is because of its quality, it got the best quality and it is built to last. I drive Nissan Altima; very old car, and I love it so much it. It is like Getting married to a super model, who is a virgin and who will never cheat on you. Just remember, Nissan cars are built to earn and to obtain your loyalty.
This is a perfect car for soccer moms. They coulnt care more about CVTs, turbochargers, or being fun to drive. It looks pretty good and simple inside and our.

With the Mazda at least it’s fun to drive and you don’t have to deal with a CVT
My friend has a CX-5 and it's extremely fun to drive but it's not as comfortable, smaller cabin space, and much less cargo room.

You say “People love the Rogue”. The owner satisfaction score in Consumer Reports is lower than average. I wouldn’t call that “love”.
Steve Printy as someone that use to put a lot of faith in CR I can honestly say that I don t trust what they say about vehicles anymore. Too many times I’ve read negative comments about reliability issues only to never experience anything like what they say, and I’ve owned a lot of new cars. Like MotorWeek, they seem to be more interested in steering people to certain vehicles.
As for people loving the Rogue, I can say I understand why. I’ve owned 3 of them over the years. They are really great vehicles.

We agree regarding Consumer Reports. I still have the ‘96 Suburban I bought new, and a ‘14 GMC Sierra Denali crew cab, and love them even though CR gives them a bad rap. Joan Claybrook (Carter choice to run NHTSA) used to be on the board of directors of Consumer Union. She wanted to require 21 years of age minimum for motorcycle license. Consumer Reports seems to be brainwashed into the man made global warming crap. They give a higher score to a vehicle that has certain safety equipment standard than a vehicle that has the same equipment that is optional. Yes, I don’t know why I keep subscribing. Maybe just to keep my eye on them. 🤨
Bart Warner Consumer Reports reliability and owner satisfaction reports are based on what owners of the actual cars tell them in their surveys. I've done those surveys myself.
Robert Shaw I didn’t say that they don’t still do surveys, but there conclusions are not solely based on customer experiences. Their own bias is evident in the details. Years ago they use to give a full breakdown of the railings, whether it was mechanical /electrical/brakes/cooling.. and more. Now, they only give certain info and they ding certain brands for not offering the same equipment as others. I could go on and on but I won’t. I believe people should buy vehicles based on their own personal experiences including test drives and even renting one for a day, that way they know if it’s the right car for them. Too many times car/trucks/SUV’s are overlooked by people because of negative comments from reviewers and publications like CR even though they could be really good vehicles. Even the brands like Toyota and Honda build vehicles that get bought and go home to customers thinking they will be damned near perfection only to find they have problems and faults just like every other manufacturer.

I have a 2018 rogue sport and it's ok but will never buy another Nissan anything. I don't like that the gas door is on the passenger side, the trunk is too small. My few bags of grocery don't fit. Don't like the hood either. Lots of things I don't like about this car.
Rogue "Sport" is a different car, smaller. The Rogue itself has a lot of space. But pricier.
Don't buy it,too many recalls the cvt will give you a lot of trouble!! nissan will leave you stranded !!!BUY TOYOTA OR HONDA they cost more but they are reliable and have a high resale.Ive learn a costly mistake from buying a nissan.
Screw CVT transmissions. Nissans are the worst in the business that’s why they had to extend the warranty. If I had to get a CVT it would be Toyota

I know! That always bothered me about the Rogue, the weak 4 cylinder. If they used the V6 they used in the Murano as an option it would bring this car to life!
At least add a turbo engine.

I just got a 2018 rogue with sun and sound package,I'm so confused when people say its underpowered,I think it has more than enough power,definitely more power than my 2015 rav 4,and much nicer ride

Nissan should have figured out the CVT by now (think Subaru). If they could do that maybe we would have stopped at the Nissan dealership when we bought our new CUV last week. Also, the Rogue is styling with no style. Adding that awful color only tells the world you have no since of taste.
In other words it's an overpriced piece of junk. But it does look nice though.
