Thank you! I was inspired by you! I drilled a 1/8” hole in a small block of red oak. Make sure you drill square and plumb with the world. My block was a little shorter that the skinny part of the pin. Take a sheet of 400 grit paper, place the oak piece on the sandpaper and the skinny end of the pin in the hole. Using light pressure, thumb and middle finger on the wood, index on the pin to steady it, slowly slide the two across the sand paper a few times. Check your work, sand a little more, check again, etc. Mine wasn’t working at all, period. My pin came out PERFECT!!

Thank you I just bought a cheap one of these after using a manual center punch for years (and never quite getting it right). It did not come with a lot of instructions, so I'm glad to see how to use it and how to fix it.

Couldn't figure out how the thing worked or I should say, didn't work. I'll be able to get the job I'm working on today done instead of waiting for a new punch. Thank you.

I’ve got that exact centre punch off Amazon. I’ve now got 2 starett automatic centre punches.

@@dctmakes3487 In the west we value quality over quantity and in China they value quantity over quality which is why I doubt the strikers are even tool steel in these brass automatic centre punches we both have but I do like to repair my tools. You can see them on channels all over UA-cam from Europe to North America so they are probably made in the millions.

I realize this is an older video. But maybe if you see this comment you could reply. Is the center section totally open from one end to the other? I was wondering since the second spring and anvil part went inside and not come out the other side like there could be a flange or smaller section inside the center section...

Morning, on the center section question, there is a square bottom bridge on the top side and a conical shape on the lower portion. With a hole for the rod to go through. Its a relatively thick bridge as it takes a hit each time as well as the rod being hit. Good question

Mine got disassembled somehow and I can’t figure it out how to assemble it because it has three springs and all UA-cam videos show two springs
