    Don't you just love how you take time and make a video to help people out and the only thing they can do is complain about something that has nothing to do with the free information you are providing. Been a tech all my life (30+ years) had my own car dealership with 10 + or - techs and I would never make a video as I would be subjected to negative comments putting me down for something other than the important/helpful information I was providing. Thanks for taking the time to make this video and the free info....going out right now with my Modis and going to check the wave forms you suggested on my 5.4L. Thanks A LOT!

      I absolutely agree with you! Working on 10 years myself and will be the future owner of my 4 generation family automotive business and I am still unsure about sharing certain things with anyone on the internet.

    An observation.
    if codes p0012 and p0022 appear both sensors should be replaced and although the oil change has been recent it is also a good idea to change it since the oil may be contaminated and have residues ...

    I loved when he said "Certain Disaster" with the Ford 5.4. That shook me out of my thoughts of going to buy one with this code. That and the Car Wizard and a bunch of other folks that say that motor is crap. Maybe I should still buy it and LS Swap it 😂😂😂😂😏

    Thank you for your video!
    I just purchased a 2006 F150 with 175k miles on it that was running rough and had poor idle after warming up. After some trouble shooting I disconnected the driver side VCT solenoid and the idle was smooth. I replaced the solenoid with the Dorman version instead of the Motorcraft and now the poor idle is there even if I unplug the new solenoid.
    My plan at the moment is to (1) Do an engine flush with LiquiMoly (sorry but the German in me loves this stuff) and change the oil. I'm wondering if agitating things caused the old oil to clog something. (2) Swap the Dorman VCT back with the old Motorcraft and see if I'm back where I started. (3) Clean a swap the cam position sensors and see if the code switches to a P0012 and then replace the sensor.

      Not a fan of Dorman. Any chain noise? Hope you get it figured out.

      @@macknumber9 Yep, the Motorcraft solenoids worked just fine. The idle is fine now.

      @@kencrane6420 so what was the original problem then? What led you to replace the vct solenoid with the dorman one? I have p0022 which states over retarded for bank2. Replaced the vct solenoid with an ngk one, didn’t seem to do the trick.

    Should I have 12v at idle from the solenoid plug? My voltage stays the same throughout the rpm range.

    Hi I tested the Vct solenoids and they right side has a 4 to 5 sec delay and the left side only takes 1 sec. My oil pressure at hot idle is 17 when it is running rough.. Could the right Vct solenoid be my problem??

      +Brad Keister Are you getting a code? If so what is the code? Do you hear any noise (timing chain) at the front of the engine?

    my 2006 F250 has an issue when I am going slow, mainly in reverse, it starts to buck and jerk and have a loud rattle. I can put it in neutral and rev it up to clear it up but it doesn't do it all the time. it just gave me the P0022 code. oil pressure at gauge doesn't change when this happens

      Oil press at the gauge is only an on/off type switch, which means you have some oil pressure. You probably need cam phasers, but you have to manually check oil pressure with a test gauge at hot idle in gear, if oil pressure is below 15-20psi, you prob need an oil pump too. Good luck.

    I have 12 and 22 plus 340 344 346 349. Rough engine. changed the cam sensor and it did nothing.

    I replaced the vct solenoid code p0012 and now I got code p0022 code

    This code only come back after a long drive, p0022 sounds like a diesel... I change both VCT Solenoids and sensors but the when I changed one side I couldn't find a piece of the spring,

      You might want to pull the front cover and probably need to replace both phasers and chain and components. Hope you don't have an oil pressure problem.

      +The Car Doctor yeah I'm hoping I don't have a oil pump problem, but wouldn't that be cheaper just to replace motor...if oil pump is the problem, save time and the huge hassle of changing the oil pump...

      It just saves money fixing the whole problem instead of spending time and money and then having something blow up later. We don't see too many folks getting over 150K miles out of these motors here.

      @@ThecardoctorTV I got 255,000 miles. Did timing phasers at a lil over 200,000 and replaced vct solenoids at 255,000. My motor is still strong and drive it daily.

    hello. i have a 2010 ford flex with eco boost just over 150k. it gives these codes but there is no issue. it starts up great. no idle lag and has power as it should. sometimes the engine light appears and some other time it goes away until it comes back again. what do you think?

      Have you checked the engine oil level? had the oil changed regularly?

      The Car Doctor. yes. i had it changed at the dealer 2 days ago now. before that it was changed at some local garage and was used regular oil. since it had the turbos i did not know it needed full synthetic. now i got throught inspection and appeared 2 codes. p052b and p0150. they tell me i need to run it alot more miles

    I have a 2009 f150 with 164k just recently after the truck is warmed up and come down to an idle in reverse usually on an incline I get both p0022 and p0012 codes and starts missing and extremely rough idle. I've unplugged the vct solenoids and she idles perfect. Just had an oil change done wondering if debris is in the passage way. I ordered the vct solenoids , do you think this will fix my problem?     I have a 06 Lincoln Navigator Spitting codes P00022 OverRetarded Bank. P0171, System Too Lean Bank 1, P0175 System Too Rich Bank 2, P0300 Random/MultiPle Cylinder Misfire. Also P0305 and 0307 Cylinder 5 and 7 misfires, p0340 P0345 and P0349 for Camshaft Position Sensor Issues???? PLEASE HELP...

      Raul, No. We replaced the Battery, Alternator, VCT's, Cam Position Sensors, Crankshaft sensor, Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor, Mass Air Flow Sensor, Spark Plugs, Coils. Now it's showing -40 degrees, I am in GA. Not that cold here and wires to the Maf sensor, Also changed the fuel filter. Still giving us a fuel pressure sensor issue and won't start. Thinking either the Fuel Pump or the Timing Chain. I will keep you posted.
