This impressive feat is just one of the memorable images from the John Brown's shipyard on the Clyde in this attractive educational film, which tours the yard in the company of a party of schoolchildren. Specifically made as a visual aid for teachers, Visit to a Shipbuilding Yard manages to get just the right balance of factual information and striking imagery to keep pupils riveted.

John Brown's Yard, my home town! Lovely to see the Yard Manager raise his hat to the young girl when the kids were introduced to him...a true gent!
Tonight when you go to bed you'll feel what cornea damage feels like since no one told you not to look at the welding arc! Isn't that exciting kids!
Was an apprentice in John Brown's shipyard from 1956-61. Joined apprentices' successful 6-week strike for day release to attend technical college in 1960. That we had to tells us all we need to know about Britain's industrial failure.
Love the film footage of the old Quasi-Arc "Fusarc" deck welding machine in use.
Nowadays these young people wouldn't be let near a construction site like this!

My grandfather started work in a shipyard in Stockton on Tees aged 14 as a heater up lad and progressed to foreman riveter , he died aged 38 from lung/chest disease.
My great great grandfather is probably in this but hard to tell which one he is

Ma da was a riveter and then a welder he took me wance to see a launch at his yerd ...ingles...i nearly shat masel..an it was a wee boat.
