Immortal Technique's song "you never know" is another great story song on the opposite end of the emotional spectrum. Still heavy and jarring, but more for melancholic reasons rather than violent ones.
I would recommend The Waitress by Atmosphere. Another great hip-hop track with a haunting twist

Immortal is a god, hard hitting rhymes and he pulls no punches.. Big heart tho, just listen to his interviews, he is intelligent and fights fierce against imperialism and racism. Apparently the British used to use sexual violence as a form of torture to "break" slaves in the americas so this rap has layers. A lot of people struggle to listen to it and think poor of the artist but that abominable shit like he's singing about has sadly been happening for centuries. Well done for sticking it out and listening to the end.

He never was there with Billy, it's a made up story about shit that goes down round the world every day, a warning. But he's actually a good guy, opened an orphanage in Afghanistan and is a real activist.

He said the part at the END where he says "I WAS THERE TOO" wasn't true, but the entire story as a whole is very much based on the real life crime of one of his prison mates.
This song has such a strong message behind it that you can't ignore, makes me sad every time I listen to it.
I love how everyone looks around for the devil when Tech says "now the devil follows me wherever I go." You're chilled to the bone and truly believe the devil is over your shoulder at that moment.
My brothers friend showed me this song. He was in a robbery where the clerk got shot. He was the driver. Released and got caught asleep on the wheel weeks later. Now paying the price and lost everything. He had a one year old. Haven’t seen him in 9 years. He needed a father figure. His mom worked two jobs. This is happening right now. The story is true but he wasn't involved. He said in a recent interview that he can show the building where this event took place.

Loved this reaction. As others have said, story isn't true. Its hard to get there on first listen, but the whole thing doesn't work if he doesn't say he was there. The point, in the end, is that darkness follows you wherever you go. It has to be first person for it to work.
The only part of this story that isn't true is that he was there, the rest is the real life account of his cell mate.
