just wondering how to wash the item with fringe? or, after you've washed it, how to separate matted, cotton fringe...?

I would put your garment in a pillowcase. Use a hair tie to close the end. Wash on gentle cycle. Tumble dry or hang to dry. Use a blunt end needle to "comb out" any tangles in the fringe.

You can actually try steaming them to make it straight again! It works best on rayon but you can still try it with other materials too :)
