- This one of the first trans-continental nxdn communications via amateur radio. You are listening to KI4SWY repeater located in New Port Richey, FL, its is full time linked to River view, FL, Atlanta, GA, Cleveland, OH, and now Vancouver (Canada).
This actually sounds much better than D STAR
Planning on a NXDN radio. AAR band plan in both analog and NXDN receive only.
So is this...
what? it is proprietary. It uses the AMBE +2 codec
I was just surprised by the low audioquality...
This is a really cool idea, it sounds pretty good, but I still prefer the sound of tetra. The only thing is tetra radios are really expensive and don't put out much power.
Nice. I was looking into TRBO or NXDN for amateur radio and ended up finding a deal on a MotoTRBO radio so I went DMR.
NXDN isn't as prevalent here as TRBO.
There are some NXDN business LTR systems going up, but not any amateur.
Well having propietary technology in a hobby that is based around us all being able to communicate with eachother, locking people out. And preventing people from building their own radios, (since they wont be able to communicate with D-star/ IDAS units Without shoving large ammounts of money into an expensive icomradio)
Therefore, It does not belong in the ham radio hobby...
Like to see how you guy are linking together on nxdn I won't mind getting into it
Is that a DV repeater?
is that the same as Mototrbo, or DMR? What model is that radio?
No, NXDN is 6.25 kHz FDMA whereas DMR is 12.5 kHz TDMA.
The radio is an Icom, but I am not sure of the model number. It looks like either a 5220D (VHF)/6220D (UHF) or a 5121D (VHF)/6121D (UHF).
What frequently is the Atlanta repeater on? I have a Kenwood NX-210 and goto Atlanta sometimes (2.5 hours away)
And since D-star is propietary, i believe it doesnt belong in ham radio stations...
:C
Oh okay, thanks! Is one of those radios hard to program?
