    Note: If your stitches aren't looking right (they should look like a rolled hem would), you may need to adjust your lower looper tension. Mine was set at 5, but sometimes it looks better on 6 or 7, depending on the fabric and which way the wind is blowing 😂

    Hi Katie! Great tutorial! I've never tried the lettuce hem with my serger, but will definitely give it a go!

    Great tutorial Katie! I was wondering how that was done. I have a different machine, but I'm sure the basic steps are similar. THANKS!

      Your welcome! 😊 Yes, the basic steps are the same…set up your machine for a 3 thread rolled hem and then lower the differential feed. Test it out first, but it should work!! 💕

    Thank you for this tutorial! I was wondering how to do this!❤ good to know about the grain. The sample (straight grain) would look good for a flutter sleeve 😉

      It would! It's the perfect amount of waviness!

    I love your channel. I just put on the bell for new videos. Can this technique work with 4 threads too?

    • @WanderingBobbin
      @WanderingBobbin  3 роки тому

      Thank you, Renee! I don't think it will work for 4 threads, not that I am aware of, at least. I tried it out today on my machine and the fabric was puckered within the stitches.

    If you didn’t know there’s a place in the bottom hood thing that holds the piece.

    my serger does not have a differential feed - any suggestions?

      There are some tutorials here on youtube for making a lettuce hem with a regular sewing machine. That might be a good option for you.

    What is a deferential feed? I’m knew to this lol

    • @WanderingBobbin
      @WanderingBobbin  Рік тому

      Sorry to be just now responding...I am sure you figured it out, but the differential feed changes the speed of the feed dogs so that they “feed differently”. It is helpful with stretchy fabrics so it feeds without pulling too much.

    Stephen Burrows created the lettuce hem. One of the great modern designers from America.

      Wonderful! Thank you for mentioning that! I love knowing more about fashion and sewing history! I didn't even think to google who actually created it. Surprised how recent of technique it is! Thank you to Stephen for giving us this beautiful hem finish!

    Wrong method, you're suppose to stretch the fabric, while sewing.

    • @WanderingBobbin
      @WanderingBobbin  2 роки тому +2

      Yes, many people do stretch while serging to get the same effect and that is another method. Sometimes, the stitches will slip off the edge fabric while serging and pulling at the same time. Of course, if you are careful, you can prevent this and stretch while serging, but using the "pinch and pull" method like I show in this video will achieve the same effect without the risk of the stitches slipping off.
