on the whole 4 versus 5 debate, always amusing to see the arguments that boil down to "I dont have to play for thousands of hours to overcome terrible enemy design, terrible level design, and overly complicated techniques? 0/10 bad game." I just don't understand how not catering to the super niche is bad design.

On the topic of DMC5 being a more refined DMC4 i think i slightly have to disagree with what a lot of chat said, the comparison to smash ultimate and melee was pretty good, one looks prettier and has more content (DMC5 = Ultimate) but the other has superior gameplay (DMC4 = Melee) , for example the complete removal of inertia in 5, im sure from a casual point of view DMC5 and Ultimate look more appealing but when you truly start getting into the deep mechanics of it all DMC4 and Melee are superior games gameplay wise.
Tl:dr i agree with BB pretty much

i for one also enjoy dmc4 more than 5, 5 felt... i dunno, less flow-ey than dmc4, dmc4 felt like linking combos together actually worked, where in dmc5, it just felt like one big combo instead of multiple combos chained together

I'm not entirely sure where people get the idea inertia is removed in five when it does exist its just not on the same level as 4, we even have developer interviews during the development of the game outright stating they went out of their way to recreate the game engine bug in 4 that causes inertia to be a thing in the first place, also imma be real if the only things stopping 5 from taking 4s place is air jc and inertia for some people then you dont fully realize just how much 5 has actually added also the argument that something like kh2 is preferred and played more is cute considering the casual fanbase has no issues with bbs and ddd and outnumber the hardcores 10 to 1 people seem to be forgetting that you can in fact press the same button and win when I first started playing these games that's exactly what I did and still can do, grenade launcher spam in dmc1 pandora spam in dmc4 and by the time 5 came out I learned how to play the games how others wanted me too, to echo something that was mentioned in an earlier part the hardcores ruin the creativity of this series by assuming you need things like inertia or jcing to "be good" but I think a developer comment helps my case here in saying that's nowhere near the truth "watching someone use balrog to decimate cavalier angelo was pretty cool" and I agree someone using a weapon like Lucifer to make credo eat shit is far more impressive and stylish than the same old boring ass thing everyone does (you know the one) it might be impressive the first time you see it but it got extremely stale the more I watched combo videos

Yeah IDK why people are always so bent out of shape about declaring which games are better. Is it a leftover tribalistic instinct? The impulse of ascribing to one thing, declaring it superior and defending it with tooth and nail? Why can't people just accept that games can be equally good? Why do we always have to put them on a ladder, and fight vehemently to defend such statements? It's really fucking weird how gamers really dedicate so much time and energy to partake in those kinds of arguments, and I really don't understand what they get out of it. Other than probably feeling like they're superior for winning an argument. An argument that holds no value. Like, it's one thing to say "I like X game than Y game because I had more fun with X game" but it's another thing to say "X game is FACTUALLY better than Y game and if you think Y game is better you have mental issues." Like wtf?
