Takes me back... this piece was the intro tune for a BBC Radio 4 panel show, IF I remember rightly it was 'Just A Minute' with Kenneth Williams and Clement Freud..

Your post states a common misconception about the "Minute Waltz." A lot of people think it's called that because it lasts only a minute (sixty seconds). This is a myth.
The "minute" in the title is actually pronounced "my-NUTE," which is the French word for "small." So, Mr. Chopin's "waltz" is a "minute," or a "my-NUTE," because it's a SMALL waltz, because it lasts for a short time, and not because the time is only sixty seconds.
This misunderstanding of what the "Minute Waltz" actually is inspired an inside joke in a Warner Brothers cartoon called "Hyde and Hare," in which Bugs Bunny is adopted as a pet by a seemingly kind and timid little man -- who, unfortunately, happens to be DR JEKYLL, as in Robert Louis Stevenson's classic horror novel, "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde."
While looking over the doctor's home, Bugs Bunny finds a piano with some sheet music set up. Taking a peek at it, Bugs reads the title as " 'my-NUTE Waltz' by Choppin'," which is supposedly his misreading of the " 'Minute Waltz' by Chopin." A frequent running gag in these cartoons has Bugsy mispronouncing words he's never seen before. But in this case, the real inside joke is that the rabbit's alleged "misreading" is not a misreading at all, because he's actually pronouncing the word "minute" as Chopin had originally intended it to be, as "my-NUTE," which, as I said before, is French for "small."
I first heard the "Minute Waltz" on an episode of "Sesame Street" in which lyrics are set to the music, and those lyrics are sung by a muppet lady singer. The opening words went something like this (although I'm not really sure):
      "I've got a minute,
      Just a little minute,
I have only got a minute,
That's all the time I've got to sing this tiny little minute waltz."
At first, I thought the song was written for "Sesame Street" (but then again, I was still a naive little boy), but years later, I found out that the muppet lady singer was actually lip-synching to a recording of Barbra Streisand (my favorite singer, ironically) singing this parody of Chopin's piece in a segment from her 1966 TV special "Color Me Barbra," in which she's dressed up like Marie Antoinette, awaiting her inevitable demise on the guillotine. (The joke was supposed to be that Barbra/Marie had only a minute left to live, and thus, only a minute to sing the "Minute Waltz," which was never a sixty second waltz in the first place, nor was it meant to be sung anyway.)
