It depends on your CPU and GPU combo.
Because they still have legacy code running alongside the new code the load on the main thread in the CPU has actually gone up.
But the load on all other CPU threads have gone down.
So since you just have a 6 core cou your disadvantage has gone down.
Currently the best CPU for SC is R7 5800X3D, because its huge cache makes up for the cases where the game code exceeds regular CPUs cache size.
8 cores and 16 threads is also ideal for the game (it's sometimes single thread limited, but it'll use all 16 threads, and can become too much for 6 core processors sometimes in CPU intensive areas.
Other than that, make sure that you got the game installed on a SSD.
And that your page settings and in game settings is ideal for your system.
      It's a balancing act.
Sometimes you'll get better performance by increasing some settings as it'll make your systems work load more balanced.
Your Internet connection is super important too.

Now I understand why folks kept saying I needed to work on my communication skills growing up. Man that's a heavy accent, I was having a hard time understanding myself, fml.
I will join the chorus and say, yes.. this 'game' can be pretty rough on a new player, specially if those individuals come into the 'verse with certain expectations and/or habits developed by playing other online games. There is NO obvious 'hand holding' of any type. You're thrown into shark infested waters and are expected to make the choice to either sink (rage quit/refund) or swim (do whatever it takes to persevere). Personally, I kinda like this as it forces new players out of their shells and encourages communication and interaction with the community, even if it's only through in-game chat asking the standard new player questions.
CIG has developed a pretty incredible sandbox for us to have fun in with while 'testing' out the ever evolving universe and when the stars align the experience is unparalleled. With nearly every patch you get more fixes/ships/game content (and new bugs) to explore, engage with, figure out, etc. Star Citizen today is not the same Star Citizen of last year and will not be the same Star Citizen a year from now. You also don't have to take part in any of the existing game loops and many develop their own loops (Piracy being the more obvious). And there's still a whole lot more yet to come. I've been playing off and on since 2013 and I'm still here learning and enjoying the game. I've definitely gotten my money's worth of fun with this product.
I really enjoyed this more unique format for a SC video and appreciate the honest account of your experience being a new player in the game today. It's easy for many of us to dismiss/ignore the many bugs that popup here and there, specially since we generally know the workarounds and how to avoid them, and this video serves as a reminder of the new player experience. It makes me really happy to know that the time we spent in-game was a more positive experience and left a better impression overall, hell I had a ton of fun that night.
I'm sorry to hear that you're dealing with Covid now. As a Covid veteran now having caught it a total of 3 times (2 and 3 being post vax), I can sympathize with you and the spectrum of unique 'discomforts' that come with the virus. Hope you get better soon.

Had to laugh at the "shark infested waters"...its true 😆
I think a lot people who try and quickly dump StarCitizen just needed to meet someone like yourself.
A person who can show the finer side to the game. Those diamonds in the rough experiences that new players might never get to see because they spent too much time just trying to survive an unsympathetic solar system...
Dotted with black holes (bugs) which for newbies with limited constitution will as ya say..rage quit or quit through fatigue.
If they stay and learn the space ropes, its a very rewarding game...as limited as it is currently.
That will change...I have great hopes for StarCitizen...heck I should, shoveled enough cash into the project 😏

Lots of valid criticism here, the starter experience if you are coming in "blind" is a bit of a nightmare.
For most people i tend to say that they should only check the game out during freefly events (which are pretty often these days) although typically this can be a bad time to play because the servers get pounded.
Some of the issues you ran into have workarounds which at this time you'd only know about if you'd been playing a while.
Performance-wise things are improving in this current patch and one thing i noticed was you had Planetery clouds turned up to high.
Unless you have a beast of a rig i recommend turning that down or off as the cloud tech is pretty new and they are still working to reduce the performance hits it dishes out.
Also if you aren't playing off an ssd then you are going to have a rough experience.
However if you are stuck in game with issues just ask in the chat or hit up the forums/reddit and someone will be able to help you out, the community is mostly good about that sort of thing and some will just flat out donate you credits to ease your pain while you are getting up to speed.

I've been a Star Citizen backer for almost a year now and I really enjoy it. It isn't for everyone (especially in it's current state) but I truly think it is one of the best games out there, there isn't really anything like it. I enjoyed how your video showed both sides of the game, it can be very frustrating with bugs sometimes but the more you play, you learn how to avoid them and they become rarer (though definitely still happen!) and really enjoyed the end when another backer showed you the ropes.
The Star Citizen community is one of the best out there, the vast majority of people are always helpful and will go out of their way to help a new player, or even just play with another stranger, some of my best experiences in this game have been with total strangers just crewing a large ship of 4-6 people. Welcome to the Verse! o7

I have been play testing SC builds for 4 years now , I use that language intentionally . I love your honesty describing your experience. This project can be very frustrating to learn and to deal with , very important that potential backers understand that and do not expect a game they just turn on and play .
We are testers who believe in the project and want to help it , our role is to test it and report and confirm issues on the issue council.
Yes many hours of fun . But also many hours of frustration.
We come to SC because we hope it can become the game to drag the industry forward . Not because it is a game we just turn on and play without any issues or frustrating nights .
You see glimpses of glory and glimpses of hell .
This is a journey we take together as a community towards the goal of having the impossible game , made possible.
Glad to see more content creators seeing it for what it really is .
Glad to finally see the comment sections changing tone after so long of be berated as a community.
Welcome new citizens to the verse ! we have a lot to look forward to over the next 6 to 12 months , exciting times to engage with the project, but still expect the game to haze you when you are new and expect to get kicked in the balls a few times along the way.

I think it's amazing now. No other space game, or even game has features like this. But it depends on the player. Alphas aren't for everyone. It requires an adventurous spirit and some patience. What kills it for these two, is they know nothing about the game. Don't know how to fly well, are terrible at combat, don't know PvP, don't know how to mine, can't do cargo running, and there's no tutorials. He tried doing box missions, in a fighter. As an old backer i can 100% relate to your frustration and why sadly too many leave before they had the chance to truly experience SC. Honestly 9 of 10 bugs have a workaround. And it's when one has mastered all these different methods on how to avoid most bugs that SC is playable.. After that you realize the magnitude and its possibilities and all different ways of doing the same task/job at hand.
We are a gang of few that have spent years on working both reporting bugs and passionately building the community. Not just making newbies wealthy but sharing light on all mechanics. The community has grown wildly fast, sadly more often than not towards the negative. A lot of toxicity and hate in general. We work hard on keeping the peace with tolerance. When possible.

*If it's one thing that anyone should take away from this video, it's that if you are a brand spanking new player, make sure you find someone that knows their s**t about this game.* I've been following this project since 2015 and I have been a solid player since 2018. But when I first started I needed someone like Viper to show me around too. Nowadays, I'm mostly like Viper, and I go around and help new players out wherever I see fit or can. Either monetarily or just to guide them around for a while. It's quite fun seeing them experience the game. Even if there are some pickups I teach them how to get around them. And also to remember that this game is still actively being built upon. In fact I've gone so far as to become an Official Guide for the game through the developer's Guide program.
There were a number of things in this video that I saw that were of course wrong or done incorrectly. But being a new player and experiencing it for the first time, it's easily excusable. But all the same, it was painful to watch sometimes. Definitely on the first go-around is where a game guide or even someone that knows about the games and willing to show you the ins and outs of it for awhile would have been super helpful.
Star Citizen does have a "request a guide" function right on the game launcher itself, but I believe that whole UI and the process to get a Game Guide needs to be improved upon. Some new players don't even know that function exists.
All the same, at the end of the day, Star Citizen is a fun game to play. Especially if you stick with it and can find someone to play with that knows how to play and show you the ropes. Once you know how to play it correctly, SC is extremely fun! Especially with friends. It's also a great place to meet new people and new friends as well. Especially in Star Citizen Discord communities.

Honestly, one of the best videos I have seen for a new player. So many people get on and get frustrated because there are bugs. There are issues. BUT there is SO much potential. The biggest mistake almost everyone makes is trying to just play the game solo without knowing how. This game is meant to be played with people. The community of Star Citizen is hands down the best online gaming community I have ever seen. I am glad you found that out before you gave up.

A lot of people don't realize that for Star Citizen you are not making a game purchase. You are literally contributing to the company that is actively developing this game. Without this influx of cash, the game would have failed years ago. Seriously, the game is being developed as we play test it. There are bugs, and because we are acting as testers, we report them to the developers so they can be fixed. It can be frustrating and if you aren't prepared to live with them this game just isn't for you. It isn't hard. You learn how to work around them and if something happens, you just start again. The game isn't finished so none of your progression matters yet anyway.

Great video, thanks for sharing. SC is a fun game to mess around with; if you enjoy combat, you are in luck. Later this month there will be an event called Invictus Fleet Week. In terms of lore, it's a celebration of the UEE Navy and all the game's combat ships become available to see and fly on certain days. CIG also brings out the massive capital ships too and there are in-game events where everyone on the server can work together to fight off Xenothreat incursions (this results in regular big space battles). You really need to crew on a fully-manned hammerhead to experience that kind of battle, it's awesome. It's also a free-fly for the duration of the event so you can invite your friends to try it if you like; they only need to make an account. Anyway, cheers and feel better soon !

The unspoken, most vital part of finding happiness and success in Star Citizen: Community. Join an organization. It'll have veterans with big ships that are super cool, and it'll also have newer players (like the person reading this now). Depending on the org, they might organize a bunch of events so there might be a Mining 101 night, or a high-stakes-trading night where they need cargo and security personnel. There could be a bounty hunting mission night where everyone hops in a Hammerhead and goes to town. There might be a racing night. They might organize a 25v25 combat extravaganza. The possibilities of a sandbox are limitless when you have people and creativity.

The new player experience is awful. It's a steep learning curve. I can make 400k an hour doing bounty missions. Find or make a friend with experience in the game, and have them walk you through it. They even have a guide system on their website where players volunteer their time to show you the game for free. It's a great community. Ask in chat if somebody would be willing to let you tour a big ship. I also recommend upgrading to something like an Avenger. Been an avid backer since 2014 and what you've shown is the perfect representation of the new player experience. I wish I could say there was a time where the game was polished and welcoming for new players but I don't think I could've got through some of the rougher updates if not for years of Bethesda games, Arma and DayZ preceding my experience with Star Citizen and getting me used to buggy games.
The best sessions in this game are absolutely the ones where you meet the NetVip3rs of the community - who thankfully represent a decent majority. I love logging in for a quiet hour or two of random missions and scratching the itch the Skyrim or Arma III once did, but it's when you take advantage of the multiplayer aspects of this game that it becomes something completely new.
There was one update years ago where they focused heavily on polish and the new player experience and it was close to perfect. I envy the players that came in during that. However, most of the good that was done was undone by the next patch. Only since becoming a software developer have I come to empathise with the devs - what they're doing is way beyond any of the projects I've worked on and yet that stuff gets broken all the time. It's incredible what they've accomplished so far, and although I wish I hadn't finished high school and almost two degrees in the time it's taken, I know it wouldn't be nearly as visionary or memorable if they'd gone the easy route and built the much simpler game described in 2012.

As it even stands now you can spend your life screwing around and still not be done... so is it done, NO... is it still a game and still amazing... YEP you bet. See ya in the verse!

Cool vid...true review and great that you got to meet Viper (NetVip3r) a great rep for the community.
I've been hooked on this beautiful (somewhat broken) game since 2014... it is getting better, no doubt about it.
Every quarter we receive the latest Dev goodies..sure its broken again for a week or so then its great...ready for the next DLC.
The features planned are what I'm looking forward to...New Starmap...multiple star systems... massive base ships ($$$$)
Hoping the company and the game survives.
Oh yeah there's Squadron 42 the single player side to the whole StarCitizen genre...its out in a year...or so 😆
Lot of celebrities hired for the mocap work. Andy Sirkis, Gillian Anderson, Mark Hamill, Mark Strong, Henry Cavill, Liam Cunningham, John Rhys Davis, Gary Oldmen...

So glad it worked out!! Star Citizen has been a wacky ride of the gate but it seems like it’s finally getting refined and the experience is getting more dialed in as they continue to remove bugs and add more of the core functions. You came back at a good time! I look forward to more Star Citizen content.

Welcome back to SC o7. SC can be brutal for new players [i actually like this]. The game will not hold your hand and you will have to learn some things the hard way. Props to the guy who helped you out. Almost every bug has some sort of workaround, just ask in chat. SC for the most part is full of "adults" willing to always help new players out.

Welcome to Star Citizen! Yeah there is a learning curve and the game is still being built. However as you saw along with frustrations based on the fact that this is an Alpha (aka game systems being built or in first pass implementation) there are some amazing technologies at work in this game and some experiences I have not seen yet in other games. I have much hope that this project will complete one day. I am still having fun how and I like that I can share my opinions with the development teams as this game is being built. Good stuff! I'm glad our community was able to help you find your way through your early steps in the game. :)

I backed this game sometime in 2012-2013 with high hopes of it being real within a few years as they had originally promised, and like a few others I've realized that it will sadly never release. I still download the "game" once every two years or so, and frankly it has not improved since the first release of "Persistence Universe" back in 2015.
Any and all criticism this game receives from new and existing players are 100% valid and deserved. Hell, even if you have never played this game and you talk shit about this game I feel like it's 100% valid and deserved. Every time I log on to this game, I get hit by a bug not even 1 minute into playing, and even worse is how the bugs I encounter are the same fucking bugs from 10 years ago. Calling Star Citizen in its current state a "tech demo" is very generous, as I'm sure tech demos run better and has less bugs than SC.
If this game ever releases, it will meet the same fate as Duke Nukem Forever. I don't think Star Citizen will ever release seeing how they have only gotten this far in 10-11 years, however I do think Squadron 42 will release sometime in the next 5 - 8 years, which is the singleplayer and campaign driven Star Citizen. I'm sure Chris Roberts also knows that SC is nothing but a buggy sandbox and waiting room for his true magnum opus which is Squadron 42.
I would advise anyone that is on the fence about buying into Star Citizen to simply forget about it, wait for a definitive release date for Squadron 42 and then wait for reviews of that game. There are better things to invest your money into than a buggy play test.

The biggest issue Star Citizen have today is the begginer experience. MOST problems you faced was due to poor knowlege of the ins and outs of the game.... Star Citizen really don't hold your hand through that learning curve. Even though I appreciate not being treated as a child, the game should have a starting mission for every game loop showing you how it works, otherwise, you gotta count on the experience other players already had and are willing to share in chat or forums. To counterpoint this, It is a nice feeling when you finally figure out how something works and the awe feeling you have when you travel around the verse.

It's definitely true that there is minimal beginner experience. (I know there are some "hints" that appear at the bottom, but I've been around so long that I don't even register what it's saying so I can't speak to what it does.) I wish that the website had a more prominent link towards their guide page, where volunteer players will actually join up with a newbie to help them out. I remember many, many years ago there was a tutorial set at Levski. It's been so long that I don't remember the details, but I think the tutorial became outdated and they just got rid of it.

Baptism by fire. We all go through it when starting, and are better for it.. or at least the community is. I think the verse has the low toxicity level because the people who have the the patience to get through the early days, are probably just have a less toxic base level. Couple that with an already friendly culture, and people tend to move in that direction.

Awesome vid dude. I do think Star Citizen fails or succeeds depending on whether it's played with other people or not. Playing it solo I just get bored out my mind. Playing it with other people it's the best game I've ever played and still to this day keeps providing me with moments I've never experienced in another game before (which is kind of crazy now I think about it being as I'm comparing this buggy ass alpha with finished products). Best advice I can give is when bugs or issues are becoming too much, don't try and play through the frustration, just put it down and go do something else and you'll keep wanting to go back to it.

  • @DavidLimaGoncalves

Space Jail has to more ways to leave.
One is escaping. Yes there is a platform puzzle-ish escape route in prison, but ultimately, it requires someone from outside to come and pick you up as you'll be stranded on the planet otherwise. Not to mention bounty hunters that might be coming for you in the meantime.
The second is hand mining. You can hand mine rocks in those caves in exchange for reduced sentence times. The deeper you go into the caves for mining, the more valuable those materials are, and therefore, the more time is reduced from your sentence.
And I guess you could say the third way is just log off and wait it out, but I think a lot of people won't consider that as a "proper in-game" way to exit prison.

Superb video. I hope you stick with the game and continue your content creation as well. SC is indeed an ambitious project, and the no compromises approach it takes to dropping you into the world has some very clear disadvantages that turns off many new players. That stated, the utter lack of help gives the in-game universe a very visceral and real feeling that I think makes it one of the more unique and rewarding experiences in gaming. The world feels a bit more dangerous and a bit more expansive for it. The downside, of course, is that with so many bugs it's hard to tell if your failures are due to a bug or player error. Of course the hope is that this will eventually get ironed out, but the bugginess is all too often a direct result of the constant focus on introduction of new features which is necessary to keep player interest. It's all a big balancing act.

so the claim jumper mission is going to be a bit harsh on two new players in a mustang and an aurora anyway. (even without the bugs) it's probably better to start with the illegal monitors mission and then start working your way up through the bounty missions and the ECN alerts. and yeah having collisions can knock weapons off of your ship, although with this patch they're supposed to come back after you claim your vessel.
and that's totally awesome how a random player was down to help you out! i've gotta say the star citizen community can be pretty cool sometimes. also i highly recommend finding an org that you like. it helps immensely to have some veteran players around at hand to show you the ropes and how to avoid the pitfalls.
(shameless plug incoming) if you ever feel like giving the large multicrew stuff a try check out the org i'm with called Nova. we're a white hat org that got a pretty good activity level. also we run beginner's guide ops about twice a week.

Man did this vid speak to my SC experience since freaking 2014 (when I first purchased it)! All these years I'd try to play it and last 1/2 hour at best, uninstall it, try again in 1/2 year. Finally seen all the 3.17 hype vids popping on UA-cam and big names like JackFrags and LevelCap (don't follow either but know of them) playing and decided to try again given the talk about performance improvement (the main sore thumb of my exp up until now)!
Talk about a turn around, having mostly smooth gameplay, actually accomplishing things, enjoying myself, and loving the visuals/immersions! I've actually managed to keep SC on my PC for more than a 1/2 hour and don't plan on uninstalling it! Perhaps you'll have more SC uploads in the future for me to watch, this one was good! Also came from all the survival games (burnt out on them all) so I know that feeling.

I'd like to add that in space-jail you can work off your sentance by mining rocks using your multitool... OR.. you find the escape route wich is practically a underground jumping puzzle and a maze that eventually leads to the surface. But be warned.. the prison is (of course) located on a hostile world and temperatures are high so you will need to leave before you cook. And you also have a limited oxygen supply.. because of course you do.
Apparently along the way you find a code somewhere (ive never gotten that far in space jail myself, sorry) but with that code you can open a garage and ride away in a buggy to get out of the space-jail's restricted zone. Again, it's what I heard, if thats incorrect.. dont shoot me.
Anyways, as you now make your escape you will need a buddy that can pick you up in his/her ship. Of course you still have a crime stat and this area is restricted... so your buddy has to either risk getting a crimestat and/or shot down or you rendevous with them outside of the restricted area.
You can then either choose to live with said crimestat, wich means being a target for bountyhunters and also not being able to land everywhere... or you can find yourself a security post like Kareah station (in orbit around the moon Cellin) and "hack" the security mainframe to clear your criminal history. You will need a cryptokey for this but those are available at GrimHex, wich is where people with a crimestat usually hang out. Just make sure your ship doesnt get blown up by Kareah's turrets. they only target ships though, so getting out in time and EVAing over does the trick.
All in all I think the whole crimestat/spacejail is a pretty neat idea, it just needs refining.
