  • Al’s heading to Gwynn Falls, a Baltimore suburb that's home to a hot little spot growing some of the world’s hottest peppers. He’s there to pick some peppers with Joe Panella, owner of Ellicott City Hot Pepper Sauce who has spent years building his small parcel of land into one of the hottest in Baltimore.
As Al picks a peck of piping hot peppers, he gets a lesson in pepper preparation. Joe shares that there is more to eating a hot pepper than just popping it in one's mouth. He explains that the hottest peppers will affect the body as it travels through the digestive system - from top to tail as one might say.
To save Al’s palette, which is “as soft as a baby’s bottom”, Joe prescribes a recipe that starts with Jalapenos and Chesapeake seasoning - and then adds the hot stuff: red savinos, ghost peppers and finally Carolina reapers - which as of earlier this year was the hottest pepper on Earth. Al’s tasting of the final batch left him gasping for air and dreading the tail end of the story.
