    I'm really starting to love pistol breaks

    Five years ago I had my long slide Iver Johnson converted by Rowland after they first contacted the importer to verify the slide was fully heat treated to a Rockwell C hardness of 36 or greater. My original plan had been to do a low-cost conversion that only required them to ream the factory barrel, add a heavy recoil spring, and rely on the spring and the mass of the slide for safe operation. Unfortunately, the slide was unlocking too fast, so they had to do a full conversion by replacing the barrel and adding a comp. (Side note, they can convert 6" SS Kimbers without adding a new barrel and comp). The pistol shoots fine, but hits a foot high at 25 yards from a rest. I've also experienced flattened primers, punctured primers, and firing pin drag with Underwood ammo. I contacted Underwood about this issue and they suspected the slide was still opening too fast, so they recommended I install a taller front sight and use Rowland's firing pin and firing pin spring. Rowland also offers an optional firing pin stop with a reduced radius to slow the unlocking time and speed of the slide. I acquired all of these parts and a match grade barrel bushing, but the CHICOM Flu was in full swing at the time, resulting in the project being shelved. Eventually I will get back to it. I'm glad your friend's PT1911 conversion is working. It was wise of his gunsmith to replace some of the internal parts which have a history of failing. My own advice to anyone wanting to go the 460 route is to do your homework and shop around for a good company to do the conversion. I tried to go cheap, yet ended up spending a lot more money than I needed to.

    I absolutely love mine. Kimber tle with the 460 Rowland barrel conversion. Shot 100’s of rounds flawlessly. Bit spendy for ammo, but packs a helluva punch. If not the 460 mag will get it done

    Wish a gun company would manufacture a 460 Rowland straight out of the box. Magnum research should make a compact 460 Rowland. With a frame and parts that can handle it. Hopefully the ammo becomes as cheap to buy as 45 auto and sold in 200 round boxes

      Get into hand loading, the brass is a bit more with the .460 Rowland but it can be reloaded several times and all the other components are the same as the .45 ACP except it uses a bit more powder which doesn't add that much more cost per round.

    Most of the extra stress is borne by the slide and barrel. I don’t understand why any other internal parts would need replacing. I used a small radius firing pin stop on mine.

    I have a ruger sr 1911 in 460 Rowland with the v2 recoil dampening system .it has been very smooth shooting and no issues sence I got it dialed in with the correct spring for the 255 gr cast bullets at 1300 velocity. At that power level it will do whatever needs done. And it is mild on the recoil.

  • @billj5645
    @billj5645 4 дні тому +1

    It would seem that after you have replaced the barrel, recoil spring, firing pin spring and magazine springs that doesn't leave very many components that would be highly stressed by the cartridge. Maybe replace the link and slidestop if they haven't already been replaced. If there was a weak point in the gun itself I would think it would be the locking lugs in the slide or the rails in the frame, and neither of those things can be fixed easily. For something that is in the .44magnum ballpark I would have expected more visible recoil.

    When yspsa had 180 power factor some people in club would trick 45 same as colts then new delta elite. Stretched out like that 45 came alive. The 10 mm then were really strethed out toward max allready.( pressures] so how far could it go? Dont know.

    I'd like to know how much that conversion is cuz there is a pistol just like this down at my gun shop right now. I have a Glock 21 Gen 4 that I was converting to 460 but I'm just going to buy an FM already converted from the company. But I imagine I'm going to have three or four guns chambered and 460 rolling by the time I'm done

    What internal parts MUST be replaced? The kit comes with a muzzle brake recoil spring, so what in the lower is taking a beating? Some Taurus 1911’s have stainless frames AND slides. That’s not the only Taurus 1911 in 460 Rowland, there were more on YT until the whole anti gun modification thing. It’s sounds more like his gunsmith upsold him things that pistol really didn’t need.

    A 460 Rowland isn't exactly "on the market"; can't just buy one... have to buy the gun first and then have it converted. There must be a whole half dozen people willing to do that. Scratch any warranty too. Think I'll stick with a BFR and RIA 10mm in big critter territory.

    I've shot 4 Taurus guns. 3 semi autos, all 3 jammed. 1 revolver. The timing was off on cylinder and it spit lead fragments into hand and had to be sent back twice to company. I realize nothing but frame is a Taurus on this but I simply refuse to own anything made by them. Cool concept but I'll stick with my Glock 20 and 29.

    Your gun promiscuity knows no limits! You get around more than a lot-lizard! :p. You've cost me so much eff'inn money! I'm still waiting for a G .460 conversion kit.. Never know when you'll run into a pissed off brownie with cubs here in Texas.. My father is a .45 stalwart.. Combat carried in Nam 68' His Wilson Combat Gold Cup is maxed out.. Most beautiful pistol I have EVER shot.. The fear of dropping it is on par with dealing with a charging predator (kidding - mostly)... I honestly cannot argue with you at all on this one, though I have generally not even played with a Taurus.. Glad to know the way it functions though.. You are still a gun wh0re but like many.. We appreciate you and twat you do..... :p. I will say this for sure.. YOU are the king of waking people up to the 10mm AND just as importantly, the right ammo for the job.. I had NEVER even heard of the .460, nor had my father... I was almost custom loading in diapers in the 70's for him and all of his friends.. (Supervised for sure). The .460 is an awesome calibur.. NOT cheap!!! Not even close.. However, what is one's life worth? I cannot wait to shoot one! The one you shot looked pretty buttery!!! Bet that muzzle break works pretty well... Have a good one Brother!
