An Amazing in-depth look at civil war photography. Most I’ve never seen before. Thanks for pointing out parts of the photos that your eye doesn’t normally focus on.

Great pictures! I’ve lived in Richmond my whole life and it’s super cool to see the area as it was back then :)

Gary. You are the most awesome and inspiring person I’ve ever come across. Your knowledge on all facets of the war is totally way above anybody else
The clarity of the photos and explanation of the events are amazing
I’ve been to Richmond three times and have learned so much
My favourite place is Hollywood cemtry and the White House
I did notice there appear to be a number of new gravestones which are all white stone in the confederate soldiers section. Is this right
However my main disappointment is the grave to Longstreets three children which is leaning over and appears to be breaking such a pity.
Also Monument avenue which has been destroyed since I was last year. Is there anything left of the monuments or are the whole gone
Best are the then and now pics
Btw I have over three hundred books periodicals maps etc thanks to you

Fascinating. Can’t wait to go back to the States to see more battlefield sites. These photos take you there! Thanks Garry and team. Great stuff!

This is one of Gary's best videos. There is a lot to learn from this piece. Plus, it lets us know Gary a bit better. Gary's handling of his dog barking makes us feel like we are right in the room with him. It was a very human and quite comforting look at who Gary is. Marvelous.

Wow I was blown away with the live action film clips. The 360 capability is a game changer and the slightly blured tone of the
    footage is outstanding.

It's called enthusiasm for the subject and love of what you do. Most people should be so lucky as to enjoy their vocation as Garry obviously does. Yes, he is shot out of a cannon everyday he lives with the energy of a 4 year old child. I'm frankly jealous. I think the man is a national treasure.

The world would be a better place if everyone had Gary’s excitement and enthusiasm, I’ve read comments of people being mean about it lol how pathetic would you have to be for his exitement to annoy you ?

Actually, just about any large format camera will do a better job of capturing all the detail due to the size of the negative. Modern cameras with modern lenses exposing the same size negatives would do a far better job. Love the photo's and information, just picking on that one comment you made early in the video.

I went to Jonesboro once to see Tara. I found out that it wasn't a real plantation 🤦 Nice museum though, can't be disappointed with that. In Atlanta I stayed at the Peach Tree Inn because it was supposed to be haunted, but didn't see a ghost 👻

If I'd fought for the Southerners back then, it would've been Wash D.C. that got torched ... and not Richmond.

I just don't understand why would the American confederates, upon fleeing Richmond, would destroy and set the town and bridges on fire?

Tobacco and cotton warehouses were set on fire to keep the contents from falling to the Yankees. The fire spread to the state armory which exploded sending flaming debris everywhere. High winds then spread fire throughout the downtown, destroying nearly 1,000 buildings.
