Hey, Brian. I always look forward to your monthly gadget roundup. I find them really interesting and they always keep me occupied for awhile after I watch them clicking on your links and reading more about some of them. I also am a huge fan of Lutron so this one had me looking to see what the difference is with that particular dimmer and the Lutron one I'm using in my house, It's a fairly expensive dimmer switch, even for Lutron and had to go back and review what you said qne or course you explained it. The takeaway for me is that if you're only dimming LED can or strip lights their significantly lower priced dimmer is the obvious choice. But if you do have the low voltage track lighting and other special lights as you mentioned, this new one is a great solution. You made me look!!! Thanks, Brian.
Hey Hugh! Yeah that one is a pretty technical thing to talk about. A lot of low voltage lighting requires a specific type of phase dimming. It's essentially how they manipulate the signal in order to get the dimming to happen. So with that one it's a special feature is that it does both forward and reverse phase dimming... Which is a pretty rare opportunity, especially with smart switches! Ultimately it results in exactly what you said, but I thought you'd like the technical reason! It's like I know you well or something 🤣
Nice video Brian. I’m excited for you to put the finishing touches on your new studio. I can’t wait to get the Narwal Freo Z - we put in the preorder and I was happy to see the awesome Reolink camera included in the video. “Let’s giver!”
Very interesting video. 🙂 In regards to your shelving that lights up in your studio, will it by any chance be the new NanoLeaf Display Boxes? That was the first thing I thought of when you said smart display light thing. Love how it's coming along! Keep up the great work!
When that Reolink camera was released they promoted (BIG TIME) that you would get 8 DAYS of continuous recording, but when I pointed out what was being said at IFA was 12 hours a day over 8...it looks like they're playing a different tune now.
I have the original version (The Sond Audio TV Soundbar from 2014 UK, which was reviewed by avforums in Sept 2014) which only had Bluetooth and Line in But had NFC Pairing and a 30w 2.1 system, Still have it and still works well. The BlueAnt Soundblade is identical but more up to date than my one.
Thank you. I have a question, I would appreciate your help answering it with your experience: On the Eufy camera system, with the homebase that you showed, Do the cameras ONLY connect to the homebase's own wireless signal? What happens if it is a very large and big house and that signal does not reach to each of the places where a camera needs to be mounted? Can the cameras also use the house WiFi ? We have a good wifi coverage provided by a Orbi mesh system. Can the cameras connect to that existing WiFi, and the homebase connect to the Ethernet on the house, and everything works as expected? Thanks. PS: we had s40 eufy cameras that worked without a homebase on a.previous house, connected only to the wifi. Homebase is new to us, so we do not understand how it works, yet. Downloaded the manuals but they do not explain much. Thanks.
Hey there. The short answer is no, the long answer is I'd be surprised if it didn't reach. Check out the full review: ua-cam.com/video/_Vh1sSi69vw/v-deo.html It explains how far the system went for me :)
Thanks, for your fast answer. I will take a look at that video. It is a very big house, made of thick concrete walls with some marble finishes on them. The density is much bigger than that of drywall. That is why my concern about the communication signal between cameras and homebase reaching.
@@oaguilarm yeah so you might need two Homebases is the ultimate answer. Totally something to test and watch, but this system will be more resilient than other Wi-Fi based ones. It's also easy to return ;)
Thanks Brian. I will give it a try, and get a 2nd homebase if needed. I really like Eufy features and app. Just hope they have fixed the water ingress problem on previous solar cameras, with this new camera. We had about 10 of the S40 cameras and almost all of them got water ingress making condensation inside the lens and rust inside the white internal light that is around the lens. And the solar cell flaking. That worries me, because it is a lot of money for ten cameras, to last only 2 years. Anyway I will take the risk as I like and trust Eufy features. Thanks.
@@AutomateYourLife Thanks for the coupon and tip Brian. With the conversion to CAD, including shipping, taxes and tariff, it was still a great bargain.
Love the Govee light strips. But do people actually place them in view on the front and top side of furniture? I know kids do it this way. Doesn’t look good imo. I’d stick to behind and underneath for more ambient wall light.

Nope. I cut through marketing material that way.
8 x 12 is 96. Tested for myself and it feels pretty accurate with lower quality settings
@@AutomateYourLife I feel sorry for all the people who pre-ordered this with the belief of 8 days continuous recording.

Didn't know that! NFC pairing is a neat way to do things!
