Installed a whole house, natural gas fueled, 20kw, Briggs & Stratton. Have needed it twice in the past 4 months!! Worked perfectly!! Self tests itself every Tuesday....
Excellent video i am very please with my Champion standby gas generator and if you have a low power demand house, with a relative small 8.5kw unit like mine you can power the complete house. Also the professional electrician who install mine that has installed over 300 units of different brands recommended the Champion generators over any other brand. According to him this units are way more reliable than all the others brands like the Generac, Honeywell (both are made by the same company) and Kohler.
What unit would you consider for powering two homes on two five acre lots ? My dad is seriously thinking about buying one for our home and neighbors ( we plan to share one generator)
Give this man a thumbs-up and just subscribe like I did. Very knowledgeable Great stuff man thank you! I am actually starting a niche website for standby generators and this was a great source of information - if anything for a couple articles as well as general knowledge.
The inside walls of the enclosure have reflective layers that reflect the thermal radiation that's emitted by the generator... back on it. I suppose it is there to keep the generator warm in Antarctica-like weather. Otherwise, don't use it on hot days.
Steve without being biased which standby home generator is the best one out there today?....which brand is the most reliable and dependable..I am thinking about getting one
OK you said that the oil had to be changed every 100 hours so that means if it ran for four days straight, I would have to change the oil meaning that if I ran it permanently as a home power source from natural gas I would have to change the oil 92 times a year every four days! That is a lot! Who has time to do that they need to make a generator that does not require the oil to be changed every 100 hours is there such a generator like that or that is self lubricating??
These air cooled ones are standby. 14-20kw air cooled kohler are lawn mower engines, once you get to the liquid cooled 24kw+ sized then your maintenance intervals are longer. These little air cooled engines rely on oil to keep them cool and lubricated. Air cooled gens should be shut off every 24 hours, cool down check oil and add more, or start it again. Emergency standby is what you’re looking for if you need this to run 7+ days with minimal interruptions. 24hours is a lot on a small motor..
The portable generators are even smaller run times before maintenance. I believe the predator 9500 inverter is 50 hours before it needs changed. The simplest way I’ve seen it explained is. More oil=less issues on long runs because the engine can be cooled more efficiently.
Generac will not honor there warranty or support there product. don't go with a Generac.
A concern is what if one needs them ran over 2 weeks then most likely they'll fail unless a diesel at 1800 rpm.
Im on the fence between the Champion vs Generac vs Briggs & Stratton. Would love to know everyone's thoughts.
I just had a Kohler 20 KW unit installed.
@dougdavis2973 how is your Kohler? I'm on the fence about the 20kw also.

My dad is thinking of buying one too and I plan to buy one for my house too when I move out .
Doest work. Went to the site and cannot locate the generator selector tool...
Imagine whole home battery like a powerwall combined with generator.
What would be the point? That's like installing 2 generators, you're only going to use one.

Champion, Cummins, Kohler, Generac.
Is that in order of manufactures you think are the most reliable?
@@j.p.4541 No I'd say Kohler or Cummins
Can this guy just narrate my daily life?
I wish my life had background music so I knew what the heck was going on!! :)
I have one with 2100 hrs on it had to replace STARTER under Warranty
otherwise no problem at all.
Very nice! 2100 Hours is a ton of usage
it finally quit after 3100 hrs.
i am buying another one
Propane 🤦🏻♂️...it's propane.
Super reliable, produces more power than natural gas and can store indefinitely with no maintenance.
isn't propane a sub-type of natural gas?
Super duper useful
