I was gifted a soprano saxophone just recently. I played tenor sax in hish school but, that was 42 years ago. I'm considering myself to be a beginner with distant memories. This has helped. One thing that I remembered was that the fingerings are the same for all varieties of sax with minor variations. This video has helped a lot.
Great presentation! The fingering chart also helps when making notes of the alternate keys. A good example, the F# where you press all the keys for a normal F plus the key right above the D# key. Thanks.
Great presentation. It helped me with the problem of reaching the low B flat key with my left little finger. Just a little change in the angle of the wrist.
Where do I find a fingering chart that shows the notes with the correct names? For example I find it really disconcerting to be told I am playing a D when I can hear an F. I have been a flute player for decades (since 5 years old.) I think that if I want to play a G scale on sax, I have to play the flute fingerings for an Bb maj scale. If this is correct, it would be really helpful if I could find a chart that shows this for all scales, Maj, Min, diminished, 7ths plus the harmonic minors and modes.
Thanks a lot. But I could not find a PDF document to print as you mentioned in the video. Pls guide me if I missed to find somewhere. But this video and your blog really helps! Regards.
I used the link to download the fingering chart, but I can't figure out how to download the chart from that page. There are lots of links, but I can't find the one for the chart itself.
Hey Bryan. If you made it to our blog, look for the opt in form at the bottom of the page. If you’re still stuck just email my team here: support@mcgillmusic.com.
Hi. Absolutely- you can use this finger chart for soprano too. We have loads of soprano players in Sax School too. You can connect with them as a member. More info here: saxschoolonline.com
After 15 minutes of looking for the fingering chart, signing up, email confirmations, I still can’t find it, and I’m dumb founded as to what my password is as I signed up with Google. Why so hard 😭
So the link takes you to a blog page that DOES NOT have a printable fingering chart. You have to sign up for a free trial in order to get access. Meaning you better cancel before you get charged $230, just for a printable chart. These videos are helpful but that type of "Free" content is a really scummy way to attract business. It's either free or it's not, please don't gate "Free" stuff behind a credit card signup page...
Hi Joshua. The finger chart is completely free (no catch). You can get it inside our Locker with all our other free resources. You can get access to the Locker from our site here: saxschoolonline.com/courses/. Or just email me if you need more help getting access: support@mcgillmusic.com. You do not need to sign up for the full membership trial.
Sorry to hear that. If you are registered for all our free resources in the Locker, the finger chart is the first link. Alternatively email us and we can help you: support@saxschoolonline.com

Glad this helped James. Yes, all fingerings are the same across the sax family. Have fun with the soprano!
Great teacher

I’m so glad it helped you Manuel!
I use a fingering chart app which also allows you to hear the note. Invaluable as a beginner.
That's a great idea Peter. Which app do you use?
Great Teaching

Do you have a video that explains when to use those extra keys on the fingering chart? I just purchased a Yamaha tenor sax and a beginner.

I'm a soprano saxophone beginner, does this video apply to it as well? Also any advice on it that you can give me? I'd really appreciate that a lot !

Why so hard 😭
You wouldn`t believe me if I told you, I smashed the same finger and its black just like yours, it made me laugh
Oh no!
When a beginner is it common to be tense when holding the sax. I can't seem to get relaxed.
That is common Larry but gets better as your confidence grows with the instrument. Best to be relaxed as possible.
No link at the bottom of the post. No way to download the fingering chart.
Hi. The link is in the description. Here it is again for you: DOWNLOAD YOUR FINGERING CHART HERE: saxschoolonline.com/articles/saxophone-finger-chart/

Don’t buy a starter sax off this site….I did and it was unplayable, I had to pay another £50 to get it set up……then lost faith and sold it on
This is how you play a c in the saxophone 🖕
