I was looking out for a sherried Hazelburn after watching your reviews from the 2022 releases of the 12 and 15. Managed to get my hands on it finally! I've opened the HB 15 Oloroso 2023 a month ago after my local liquor store reserved this one for me last year. I was very pleased I could purchase it for a normal price (100 euro's) but angry with myself I wasted a couple of months to start the hunt for backup(s)😂. Such incredible stuff! Eventually I managed to get 2 spare ones months later for 155 a piece. I guess everybody was hunting Springbank bottles but I'm keeping an eye on these Hazelburns in the future. Love from Amsterdam and keep up the good review work!
I love your city. I visited for new years in 2001 and 2002. Stayed a week both times. Celebrated in Dom Square just outside my hotel. Heineken was incredible and the women more so! Cheers, Mike
I'm still on the hunt for this 12. Would love to compare it. I took my chance when I was able to snatch multiple bottles of this 15yo release. Never been this lucky before in a whisky hunt. Cheers to you all!
Thanks for the sample Mike. This one is a butterscotch bomb - so sweet on the nose, and rich on the palette. Quite oaky, but not overpowering at all. Takes water well, my only negative note is that it’s a little drying on the finish. I have an unopened bottle of the 2006 HB15 that I now need to open to compare.
Great review gents! Question on this bottle…. I bought 2 & one bottle has a BUNCH of floating particles & the other not even close to that amount? Please tell me this isn’t part of bad bottle storation… ( like left in sunlight) if anyone can help with my question I would appreciate it. Thanks
Just a sign of quality whisky. Springbank doesn't chill filter their whisky so some bottles with have more floaties than others. As a drinker, the more of those the better. They add flavor :) cheers
I would that that as a good sign. IB like Blackadder even leave in barrel chips... If I had the resources, I would just buy a barrel and drink from that.
If this one is not as dry n sweeter than recent releases then I don't think I'd like them at all. This one is not sweet enough, SB funk is low and has dry finish. (*neck pour) the 13yo from 6-7 years ago is way better than this 15 and the 14 from 4 years ago. That being said I did get a back up of this 15, lol. It's still really good just didn't live up to past bottles and I haven't seen hazelburn In 3 years. Plus it was $159
This is my least favorite (I bought 2). But for me this is the sweatest in a bad way. And I mean that vs the old 13's as well. I got this coyingly sweat note. Still would buy another one :) HB oloroso does no WRONG...sometimes it does more right lol. Also SB funk? It's hazleburn...no peat buddy, and clean casks. It's funk free! For what it's worth this was our last review of the day, keith had just made it there. We were at our worst doing this one. This isn't the review I'd want people to judge us on :) But it's also the review I'd want people to judge who we are on if you get my drift.
@topshelfdustin3060 I think your funk is different than mine. I get funk on every bottle from that distillery. Could it be you drink their spirit so much u don't notice it. Like a smoker doesn't notice their house n clothes smell like cig. smoke? I think the funk comes from the spirit not the peat.
@@WheelHouse1of1 interesting on the funk, for me these are just wonderful good old sherry bombs with some hearty malt. BUt yeah I don't get much that I'd consider "the funk" like I do on springbank and longrow. But you might be right....I drink springbank pretty often lol.
It's seeming to get better the long it's open. But too much spirit? Isn't that normally everyone's issue with sherried whiskies, that you don't get enough spirit?

@@topshelfwhisky Haha, the Dutch women have legs as long as you want your whisky to finish🤪
Cheers man, and these remain a BIT under the radar with everyone chasing local barely and even the 12 CSs.
Love the 2004 14 year versions I have in my collection. Delicious!
Sounds so good and great 3 way discussion. I'm still loving the 12 Oloroso from last year. CHEERS!
Glad you’re enjoying the 12. I thought you would like it.

Had this again today. So much better now that its been open for a couple weeks. More vibrant and sweet, less dryness on the finish
Springbank needs time in the glass and time open in the bottle.
Another great session guys. I’m loving my HB12, &15 from 2022. The 2023’s haven’t surfaced here in Australia yet.
Good to hear! We’re very complementary of both of those whisky’s . I’m glad you feel the same.

Good discerption. These always have a nice variance but I think the distillary has done a nice job the last three releases. Cheers!
I bought this one today! I paid the equivalent to 125 USD.
great buy!

Where´s Springbank, there´s Keith

Quite disapointed on this one, to much spirit driven, to high ABV did not work so i gave my bottle away to a friend🤯

poured some tonight....you know...the alcohol is on the nose buddy. THat's NOT normal. You're not wrong!
