  • Have you ever wondered how to approach a custom quilt and how to do borders that fit?
In this series of videos Liz from Pinhole Quilting quilts this Blue Quilts 4 Care Leavers quilt using custom quilting.
The Moxie with Pro-Stitcher Lite is used but all these techniques are available to Pro-Stitcher Premium customers too.
In the prequel and the first five videos the quilt was basted and then custom quilted in the blocks and in the inner borders using chevrons, squares and other standard designs found in Pro-Stitcher Lite and Premium.
In this fifth video the top and bottom borders including the corners were quilted.
In this, the sixth video in the series, the quilt is turned to do the sideways borders horizontally. This is called turning and this techniques is used instead of "chunking" the borders. Chunking involves lining up the border design as you progress down the quilt to do the side borders. This can work fine but (depending on the design) sometimes it's quicker to take the quilt off the leaders and re-pin it by turning it 90 degrees around so that the length becomes the width.
I hope that makes sense!! Then it's much quicker to do a horizontal border in the middle of the two corners that have already been stitched.
If you have questions or if you're not sure how this was done feel free to ask questions below.
