Didn't get the memo that you had started this channel unfortunately, but I will enjoying plodding through your content now. RIP fella, love to your family and friends if you are reading this.
How have i not found your channel before?! What a legend, and what a legacy... Maybe your family will get some joy from reading comments from other car nuts that are getting to enjoy their time with you now... 11 minutes at a time
Matt, brilliant! I can't believe this is your first video. You came across really well. Definitely do a follow up video as I'm sure we all want to see how this MX5 turns out. Keep it up mate. Cheers, Michael.
I’ve got a mk2, and from my experience yours doesn’t actually look too bad if you look past the sills. Get them sorted along with the brakes and I reckon you have a good car. Good video too mate 👍
Great first video. Great project to get your teeth into. I did the same with my MK2 MX5. I learnt a lot doing it, now doing my sons MK1 MX5 with him. I can't wait till the next video.
Class first video. Just bought a mk2 the other day myself, not quite as shabby as yours but it’s totally stock. Look forward to seeing what you do with yours. My boot had water collected in the same places, going to replace the circular gaskets that cover the tail light bolt holes and unblock all the drains that are clogged up. Subscribed.
Great video I keep having you tube ideas and never do anything about them good to see someone giving it a goand what a go you smashed it. I nearly bought a cheap smart roadster for the hard top till I found out they leak more than the soft top.
Good effort on your first video Matt. At the time of writing this you have 168 likes and no dislikes so you're doing something right. As long as you enjoy it, that's all that counts. Best wishes.
Good stuff - well done😊 The MX5 looks and sounds like its worth saving but I reckon you need to get it up on ramps and have a really good rust hunt before you spend any serious time and dosh😊. Look forward to further updates.
Excellent first video, looking forward to a follow up. I've owned 3 mx5s....a mk1 1 and 2 mk3 but the mk1 was my favourite just for the fun factor. Good luck with the channel 👌👍
Great video, Matt! Had a mk1 and a mk3 MX5. The mk3 used to get clogged drainage channels which would result in water ingress. It was an easy clean though - just need to go to a music shop for a trombone cleaner😊
Good on you mate! There’s lots of Mazda enthusiasts around to ask about things you’re not sure on. The front calliper could be seized by the look of it. They slide on pins that sit in rubber bushings. Might just need a strip and clean. A bit of red rubber grease is always worth putting on them too. Good luck with the channel dude!
So once you get the wheel off you’ll be able to see 2 14mm headed bolts. They go through a kind of tab on each end of the calliper. They each thread directly into a slider pin each. So to undo them you will probably have to put a spanner on the flats of the slider pin to stop it spinning with the bolt. Then once they are undone you can pry the calliper off of the pads and away from the calliper carrier. The pins are just held by a rubber gaiter at this point so you can pull them out with pliers and give the rubber a clean out. It might be that the piston is seized in the caliper but you can press the pedal to pump it out a bit then clean / spray it with lube before pushing it back in with a g clamp or something similar. Don’t pump the pedal too many times incase you pop the piston out of the calliper all together. If that does happen you just have to refit it and bleed the brakes. Good luck dude!
Good first video. Mate I’m glad you have started making these you tube vids. Fair play to you I hope to see more. Hopefully guys like autoalex get behind you mate and push your content. 😊
Looks like a siezed caliper, which is common. Only jack the car on the ends of the chassis rails or jacking points, and not on the sills themselves. Keep at it, good luck 👍
@@MattsMotors15 cheers man! Excited to see your channel grow 😊 give me a shout if you ever have any questions, as a relative newbie myself I’m happy to help 🙌
Good first video. That's some rough looking sills, got lots of experience welding them. but for £500 it's still a good deal. p.s make sure you check the drains under them if they weren't welded up by previous repairs, I've seen that a lot
I'll have a gander , do you reckon I could sand them back and then fill them to make them look a bit tidier or would welding be essential as I wouldnt want to spend the money getting them welded
@@MattsMotors15 They rust from the inside out, you can cover them up to make them look better but it makes the problem worse. you will end up with more filler than metal (ask me how i know) . its not too hard to weld. I would weld it for you if you were local.
New subscriber here, thanks to @AutoalexCars and I'll be sticking around to see more. Good to see so much positivity in the comments too. 👍 So many of us viewers do this sort of stuff ourselves but would never have the confidence to start a channel.
FANTASTIC FIRST VIDEO! Look forward to seeing more ❤
Thanks , new (used) camera on the way so hopefully able to do some better quality for part two.
@@MattsMotors15Great first video mate, be good for audio quality if you were mic'd up too.
Can’t wait to see how this car gets transformed!
The man the myth the bloody legend ! I still have my soapy water sticker ! And if I do the rust repair on this it'll be your guide that I follow ❤️

Bloody good on you Matt! Inspiring.
I’m based in Surrey if you ever need use of a car lift.
Where abouts in Surrey ? That would be great do we have any garages where you can pay to use a lift on a daily or hourly rate ?
Good to see you again Matt!! looking forward to it🎉

The first of many, brilliant first vlog, glad to be in at the start 😊
Yes sir , I really enjoyed making it and learning editing etc

I think you're right, I'm trying not to spend any money at all really to show it's possible to do cars on a budget
Would also be cool to see a video showing us around your other mx5 and the porsche.
Good first video, look forward to more.
Don't you worry it's all in the pipeline man when the subs are up a little I will do videos on both !
Here from autoalex never understood following for mx5s but everyone who drove one all say same , might need to give em a try ! For some rwd action
RWD = SKIDS!
Congrats on your first upload. Enjoyed it. You have a good/natural presence on camera. Can’t wait for the next!

Great video, Matt! Had a mk1 and a mk3 MX5. The mk3 used to get clogged drainage channels which would result in water ingress. It was an easy clean though - just need to go to a music shop for a trombone cleaner😊
Also brake calliper on mk1 seized and sounded much like your wheel. I had to get it replaced
Same issue plagues the mk1 and 2 also, main reason why the rear sills always go.
Inspirational mate well done to you. Never give up and always fight for what we want. Your a super star keep on keeping on
Thanks for the kind words man

im going to give this a go in the next video, do the pins just push out do they need a tool ?
