The best phone I ever used... It's a total package. Performance, battery, camera, apps and features... Its a beast of a phone... Non comes close to it..... Its a masterpiece of a phone
Even without google support Huawei is killing it. They really took photography to the next level with P40. And I often download apps from third party that's not that big of a problem!

Finally, Huawei is starting to mature in its software and applications. It's still not as developed as Google's, but Huawei has a great future without Google.

yes...for example I live in Malaysia and i dont find not having gms a great deal of a problem since Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, Instagram, Ytube Vance can work independantly without gms...for cloud service, maybe it will be a hassle for those using Drive..for banking purposes, huawei own appgallery has already every banking apps available....only navigation would be a problem but it will be a big deal for grab users or people depending on maps navigation...but overall, i can see the possibility of breaking out from the google-reliant chain

I just got my P40 Pro. Yes very impressive. If you like their phone I’m sure you’ll like their smart watches too. That how I was sold on HUAWEI!

I think the 90 Hertz is the sweet spot, higher than 90 is overkill and will only consume more battery.

Realy like the style of this phone. Matte sliver looks almost like metal. realy cool. I like the idea of huawei got an app store now. Tired off apple and laggy samsung. Perfect alternative. Got to buy this when it arrives to sweden.

im using the p30 pro... was thinking to upgrade to this p40 pro but the lack of google is a deal breaker for me... so i bought the s22 ultra...man i miss the IR blaster feature on huawei phone...now i have to buy additional IR otg device for my samsung

Since its still andoid base, you can install playstore and other essential google app and you are good to go

whats about 4K60? Can you record 4K60 with the ultra wide angle and telephoto? How good / bad is the stabilization? For a 2020 flagship it should be tested there, not just at 4K30...
Huaweis kirin chip is terrible at 4k.. It stutters like hell when panning..I use one

Stereo speakers are not impossible, my mate20X has twin speakers. One at the top and one at the bottom. One of the best sounding smartphones out there.
To be fair everyone uses Bluetooth earphones now. Not sure how needed it is

The P40 no doubt is gonna win. The S20 is garbage.
s20 is indeed garbage. you may not believe me, but you can see it for yourselves if you go and compare it, and you can get your hand on an old Huawei P20, that the S20 Ultra's image quality is just not better then the P20. The only difference is the shallow depth of field due to the large sensor. its not sharper, doesn't have better dynamic range. i compared them using auto mode, hdr off, ai off, basically everything off. and yeah, the cheaper members of the S20 series didn't do any better. if you have an older flagship, be it a huawei, a oneplus, a samsung, an iphone, just go to a store, and compare them yourselves.

That would be possible if Huawei let you unlock the bootloader so you could get a custom rom and flash Gapps. But alas that is not possible.

It doesn't even has 3D face unlock dude. and despite the 40MP, pictures with the wide angle are pretty soft.
And no stereo speakers is a joke. And "Octa PD autofocus" will never be as good as Dual Pixel AF.

sooo...the CEO was saying that the design will be something the world has never seen before, well he was right I still can't see it :)) no qhd, no steel frame, no 120hz, no stereo speakers and no normal earpiece? that vibration shit again....I was completely fine with my mate 10, but this is just dissapointing, not to mention you can't use netflix or gpay. Was secretly hoping to come back to Huawei and they were hiping this device a lot, but for now oneplus has the edge in everything.
And also it looks like an s10 5g and s20 ultra. Yet they talk about original design.
Is it supported by Google services?
Nice review as always but since the new Huawei phones don’t carry Google apps and ain’t available officially outside China I don’t see the point of dealing with it. Whatever interest on it is purely academical. And this monstrous notch is horrendous and blocks proper view on the screen plus the absence of stereo speakers is inexcusable for a flagship.
They are available in UK. Great deal at the moment. Not yet decided between this or mate 30 Pro.

You can. It's not really worth it though. You'll have to keep updating them manually though (at least the Play Store anyway)

Cameras and size of screen. But honestly the pics will be the same except the telephoto has 10x optical and 20x hybrid so better for zoomed in pics

Best? Lol S20 ultra has larger higher resolution screen, much better stereo speakers, better processor, more ram 12 or 16 and Google services. So how is the p40 pro better? Lol. The only close thing is the cameras which is a toss up.

Debatable. The s20 ultra and Iphone 11 pro max arguably are better at taking certain pics. Selfies, ultra wide, any type of video are much better on the s20 ultra and Iphone. Even the telephoto on the ultra was better do to more pixels and higher resolution. The only thing Huawei does better is night shots.

The price is too damn high basically for just great camera. Hassle with Google services, absence of stereo speakers and ugly pill-shaped punch hole on the curved screen are deal breakers for me. All things considered plus looming deep financial crisis, I prefer to keep my old good P20 Pro. Sure it is slower but not much worse camera, still 2 days battery life, awesome speakers and nice flat screen make my mind to keep it.
Agree.. 2 year flagships are still great phones .. But .........
I also have p20 pro. Our phone started at 800 and this is about 900 (in UK). Therefore I'd say this is far more reasonable than others in the same price range. It is a beautiful design, so I would upgrade just for the slim bezels and curvy screen
