    This was painful, if brief. I watched that happen with my mom and dad for years. When my mom became a "stay at home" mom, she would complain about something and dad would acquiesce again and again.
    Want a horse? Got a horse.
    Want a bigger house? Got a bigger house.
    Want a full sewing suite? Got a whole friggan office and thousands of dollars of equipment for hobby sewing.
    My dad contented himself with a 20 year old van and a new video game once every few months, but mom always wanted more.
    She slowly went from being a nationally placing track and field athlete to a 400 lb woman who sat on the couch and ate bon bons all day. (Yes literally)
    My dad was a very successful entrepreneur, but after 30 years of marriage the family fell on hard times. I caught mom telling dad they had these problems because he didn't make enough money.
    They divorced shortly after. Mum got a ton of money and my dad basically disappeared. She, naturally, squandered the money, and the obligation of sorting through the over abundance of frivolities fell to me. Very emotionally arduous times. Mum started to do the same thing to me too, only I'm dirt poor. I had to learn to set the boundaries that my dad never did.

      There's a very good chapter in "The Great Divorce" that dives into this as well.

      That is, what men's rights looks like is a bunch of hypocritically hate-filled harpies protesting men's rights meetings, sometimes violently, yelling and screaming that all men are misogynistic, rape apologizing, incest supporting scum.

      Hurling Camogie you're making claims he hasn't made. Violence was not factored into the comparison at all. The claim is that all things being equal, ie no abuse, children are better with a biological mother and father than any other arrangement. I have never heard the claim made by somebody in the MRM that a child should stay with an abusive or violent parent. The argument I believe is that when there is no violence, do not support children being taken from their biological fathers, particularly when and because the mother is abusive and violent. I have also seen this statement stretch to be seen as an attack on same sex couples. These reactions are always looking at the claim without empathy to what they are saying. These are fathers being denied access to their children, often by abusive mothers supported by the family law, which has a hugely detrimental effect on both the fathers and particularly the children. Given family law is meant to be about the best interests of the children it's a fair claim. I think it says more about the empathy gap that it gets turned into how other groups feel about that claim based on adding "what ifs" into the equation usually based on rare exceptions.

    • @JakkFrost1
      @JakkFrost1 6 років тому +1

      +Hurling Camogie ~ Except for, you know, all those numerous studies that have shown that children in a complete family unit overall wind up more well-adjusted than those raised by a single parent, and children raised by single fathers generally wind up more well-adjusted than those raised by single mothers.

    I don't think Dr. Farrell has fully grasped the disillusionment of women for men. What he talks about seems to be the need for pair bonding, and in this entitled age women can select new mates and simply move on. I read a statistic once that asserts men get over broken relationships in about 2 years, whereas women are free of any emotional baggage after 6 months. I'm inclined to agree with that research.
    If she cannot keep up with me, we will not walk the path of life together. This is not arrogance on my part, it's simple pragmatism. A relationship should be about mutual benefit, not what benefits her alone.

    • @JakkFrost1

      It's obvious that Warren is still slave to gynocentrism. He doesn't understand that hypergamy is natural to women. Men should be taught that, and not to lose themselves in a relationship because statistically it's probable his wife will dump him sooner or later. No spouse should be worth killing yourself over.

    • @davey1602
      @davey1602 6 років тому +8

      To be fair I'm a little gynocentric myself. It's not feminist education, simply an acknowledgement that we evolved to protect women as our sole reason for survival through pregnancy to nurture. It's unfortunate that politicians collude with the female mindset that allow hypergamous behaviour, no fault divorce and a general apathy toward husbands.
      I'd like to think that clearer heads would prevail and we get a more balanced judicial system, but we're fighting against avaricious lawyers that feed off family break ups. I can count on 1 hand how many are willing to stand up for real justice - not for the man, for the best interests of the children.

    • @4812megan
      @4812megan 6 років тому +6

      Farrell does understand that hypergamy is natural for women, he was talking about this in the early 1990s.
      I think women do have emotional baggage long after 6 months, it comes in the form of feminism. Accusing a man of touching her knee 15 years ago? She has not gotten over this baggage, I'm sorry.
      Farrell is right in trying to highlight the plight of boys for two reasons. 1) People would develop better attitudes towards males. 2) The boys will grow up with healthier mindets themselves.

    • @davey1602
      @davey1602 6 років тому +10

      Barnes Barnesy Farrell's hangover from his days as a feminist is still with him. All the "what can I do to help you" reminds me of Christina Hoff Summers when she makes a plea to help men, just so they stay on the plantation.
      Boys need to learn respect for themselves, not how useful they can be to women, or even society.

    Here's the thing some people don't get: Despite the vitriol I, and others like me, may spew towards _some_ women in general, and especially towards feminism, most of us don't think women should be back in the kitchen, barefoot and pregnant. We want women to be equal to men. Where our rage is coming from is the lack of the same consideration being given to us by these women. As Warren said, "we have a big hole in the area of compassion for boys and men." All we're asking is for that hole to be filled in.

      Yep. But that would mean scrapping the Duluth Model, renaming and rewriting VAWA to include male victims of domestic violence, making women register for the draft (with repercussions for getting pregnant to avoid it), affirming due process, legislating a semblance of parental equality for children in the womb, dropping the wage gap as an issue without taking up the workplace fatality gap as an issue... The list goes on, and on and on.
      There are no female feminists on sinking ships.

    It's a shame that Warren, as insightful as he is, misses the point. If loss of a spouse makes men so much more suicidal, we don't solve that with compassion from women; we solve that by teaching men and boys not to lose themselves in a relationship.

      We can certainly try both. But teaching the men some basic skills in mental defenses in relationship, is the most trustworthy tactic.
      I've known a fair number of women who's mental age never got high enough, to have the self control necessary to learn to be compassionate, over the long haul. they can fake it for a while, until they get bored and spot something shiny.

    Men need women for emotional support????
    That is really funny. Women do not feel any attraction for weak men how express theirs feelings.
    Women do not want a human being, women want a human doing.
    From a women point a view a man with emotion is a waste of time, the only emotion that is allowed if you are a man are those emotion that are useful to her.

    • @nowhereman7413
      @nowhereman7413 6 років тому +5

      I understand his points, but he is not clear.
      My point is that men have been brainwashed in to believing that women offer emotional support.
      The reality is that women in general do not offer any emotional support, men need women around in order to avoid being shamed.
      Men can escape that trap and avoid that need for social approval.

    He went off the rails at about the 10:00 mark. Women need men more than vice versa and men cannot rely on the woman they are in a romantic relationship with for emotional support. If you're not in a romantic relationship with a woman, that woman can be a superior source of support. The average woman will be disappointed and attempt to get her man to get back to being stoic if he shares his feelings with her.

    How have gender issues changed in the last 40 years? As women have achieved more social, economic and political power, feminists have stepped up their relentless attack on men's rights and have delighted in the declining performance of boys and young men in the education system and the removal of fathers from the home.
    Now Farrell says that we should ‘appeal to women’s compassion for boys’ to change things. Where has that ‘compassion’ been for the last 40 years?
    He has failed to effect any positive change in his 40 years of raising these issues and hasn’t learned that the only positive effects of the past few years, have come from men and women fighting against the poison of feminism not ‘appealing’ like damned supplicants.
    U.S. men really dodged a bullet with last year’s election. Good luck in appealing to the ‘compassion for boys’ of Hillary ‘The Future is Female’ Clinton if she had won.
    The wiki page on Farrell says that he supported her bid for the Presidency.
    He needs to pick up a history book. Appealing to the ‘compassion’ of a group which benefits from a corrupt system has never resulted in that system being changed.

    • @MassCaMb0
      @MassCaMb0 6 років тому

      I think you missed his point. He said that his next approach would be to appeal to women's (in particular mothers') compassion for boys in order to inform them about men's rights issues. He didn't say we needed to submit to feminism to do this. The idea is just that mothers would be more sympathetic to these ideas if they were presented as something that could effect their children than say something that could effect their husband. Historically, men have been protective of women, and women protective of children. If you tell a woman that a man has problems it would be breaking her biological role to protect him, but if you tell her that a child is having a problem it is perfectly within her character to want to help the child.

    • @pauljackson2409
      @pauljackson2409 6 років тому +3

      I didn't miss his point and I say again, where has this compassion for boys and young men from women been for the last 40 years? Farrell published the 'Myth of Male Power' in 1993 and Christina Hoff-Sommers released 'The War against Boys' in 2000 and yet in 2011 the Obama Administration launched an egregious assault on the rights of young college men with the infamous 'Dear Colleague Letter' to American Universities.
      This forced the setup of kangaroo courts (aka ‘sexual assault tribunals’) for college men facing sexual assault allegations, which denied them due process. Where was the outrage from mothers up and down the country?
      What did Farrell do? He supported Hillary Clinton’s bid for the Presidency last year. Essentially asking for more of the same. He’s a fucking sell-out.
      This disgusting situation has only just been rectified by the dismantling of these sexual assault tribunals by Betsy DeVos, a Trump appointee to Secretary of State for Education.She met with among others Harry Crouch of NCFM but where was Farrell?

    Men do need women for obvious reasons and Farrell has pointed out. But why do women need men? Women have always needed men to provide and protect. Today more women than men want to marry, why do women want to do this when they don't really need protection or providing for? What emotional or social needs do women get out of relationships with men these days?

      @@hafeezhamama9580. Most divorces are instigated by the woman for reasons such "disatisfaction" and occur around the 7 year point. So I ask what happens at 7 years? My answer is: she has children and they are now at school. She does not need anyone to support her during those vulnerable baby rearing years. She wants to be a mother and spend time at home with them while young, after that who knows what she wants........

      In emotional terms it's absolutely true that men need women more than women need men - and for the reasons Warren Farrell stated. People on here are confusing emotional need with physical dependence, but women have no awareness of their dependence on the constant work and support of men. They just take us for granted.

      I think it's fair to say that "life" or being alive is the ultimate most important thing to any individual on this planet. So when men are committing suicides at these rates because they are much worse in seeking emotional relief than women, I think it's fair to say that men need women more than vice versa.

    • @inceptional
      @inceptional 5 років тому

      I think it's 100% true in the way he means.
      Right now in society at large, women are able to count on other women and men for support and compassion and affection and love far, far more easily than men can do similarly. As a truly simple and obvious example, just think about how easily and comfortably a women can get a hug from another women or even a man without anyone even blinking twice (you see girls going up to and hugging their female friends or sitting while hugging them all the time). And, despite our differences, both men and women simply cannot live healthy and happy lives without such basic yet fundamental things as connection and compassion and affection. So men are generally far more lonely and miserable en masse these days than women because they simply can't get enough of that, and certainly when compared to women. And what men really need is to find that in their biological partners in the world, women, more than anywhere else---and that is a proven fact:
      ua-cam.com/video/j-Gil9l8yIE/v-deo.html
      Without a woman in their lives, men are far, far more likely to be lonely and depressed than a woman in a similar situation.
      And that is why men need women more than women need men in the way he means it--because we don't really have the things women bring to the equation in our lives for the large part, which leads to men feeling more sad and lonely than ever necessary or healthy, but most women generally have both men and women in their lives giving them what they need, far more so than men.
      And, beyond basic survival and replication, happiness is basically the whole point of it all, right? Because life is kinda pointless if you don't have compassion and love and happiness.
      Men need women for all the most important things they need in life in general, love and compassion and all that, which they simply don't get from other men just by the very nature of how men are and have likely always been. Women, on the other hand, can and usually do get that stuff from other women, even as much as they too need men to give them a lot of it also.
      Basically, he is right.

    People avoid criticism because of the nuclear family system. When you let your guard down and allow someone to criticize you, your parents and siblings will destroy you. I'm not a marxist feminist but there is a real oppressive element that exists within the nuclear family. Too much of society is centered around the nuclear family. At the same time it is harder to have a stable family given present economic conditions for the working class and middle class.
    If you are talking about equality of opportunity, this would need to be implemented through political measures. One family to the next can be quite different.

    the root of our whole social division is DUALISM which is new age spirituality, occultism, which teaches us to Balance the forces of ying and yang through "control" or magic. its in the movies its in the video games its in all the new age books its in the hearts of the marxists. battling ourselves makes you subvertable and giving all your power away to exterrnal forces. its also in Collectivism vs. Individualism (americas founding and judeo christian tradition) all that exists are individuals groups are an abstraction. when we fight for groups individuals are trampled. you can't balance those forces, you can only seek and pursue freedom and hapiness for yourself and in so doing you preserve it for everyone. the essence of "dualism" is a rebellion against the natural law and the God who gave it. envy, pride,shame,blame, hiding(behind a mask or false self) are all aspects of the sinful nature that has tried to be "god" without God himelf. those who hate patriarchy are hating the God who made us and the family and love and freedom. you can't "fight" for freedom you can only exercise it in truth, grace, love, and assertion/submission. THE FEMINIST MOVEMENT CAME OUT OF THE EASTERN PHILOSOPHY that came to america in the 1960's through the Beattles, Timothy Leary, Guru's, Yoga, satanic and occultic rock music, interest in Alister Crowley, Madam levatsky and their disciples. this alternate lifestyle of free love and free sex "tune in turn on and drop out" required a rebellion against all societal norms and traditional religion. witchcraft and goddess worship are also a form of this abberation.

    I fully agree, men need women more then women need men. We are more fragile socially and emotionally and we are currently being crippled by our society and it's decision to denigrate us and render us unneeded and unwanted. The problem is men are the ones who build civilization. We're the ones who create all the wealth you see around you. All the food, the buildings, the inventions, the tools, the products are all created, built, and maintained by men. And we do these things entirely for female approval. A culture that makes it so that women don't need or want or respect men dies. A culture that loses the people who create and maintain everything dies.
    Our culture, our society, our civilization is dying.

    I don't buy that darwinian/evolutionary mithology that depicts our past as a constant brutal struggle. It's a myth that must go away. It's an insult to our ancestors. "We have survived because... bla, bla, in the past if someone criticized you it was your enemy... you could kill him to defend yourself... bla, bla...". What is that? In the past a criticism was a criticism, just like today. People didn't go around killing each other all the time because criticism or other small things.
    Both feminists and MRAs use the same modern mythology. They depict our past as "savages" who were asking badly for laws and to be tamed because the past was supposedly a constant violence; our ancestors were all psychopaths, as they see it (only a psychopath would kill somebody for a criticism). Feminists use this to depict past men (and men nature as well) as rapists, killers and abusive and MRAs use it to other purposes, but it's a myth. And it annoys me how unchallenged it is by most of the people, specially in North America and the UK, where Darwinism is strongly rooted.
    It's hatred against nature, against the nature of human beings as something to be changed or controlled. Mythology and lies don't serve to any movement. That is why, as I said, Darwinism and evolutionary narratives must be challenged, recognized as pure phantasies, and need to get eliminated from any speech, for the sake of truth.

      I think Marx was referring to all families under capitalism, not just the bourgeois family, since everyone is living in a system that allows private ownership of property. But he didn't foresee the effect of market forces, i.e. women getting into the job market. And it's not just market forces, either. People's attitude towards the family has changed, as well.

    • @blackmichael75
      @blackmichael75 6 років тому

      He wasn't. He was specifically referring to the bourgeois family, as an institution. He mentions that the proletarian family has already been decimated by the bourgeois habit of turning all relations into money relations.

      Michael Black Do you think that the family as an institution has been destroyed? Do you agree or disagree with Dr. Farrell that it's better if children are raised by their biological parents? Do you believe the family can be saved, if it's worth saving?

  • @unfortunatebeam
    @unfortunatebeam 6 років тому

    I disagree with Farrell when he says men need women more than the other way around, maybe it was like that more in the past, but not as much now. This idea should be restricted to individuals, not groups, ie, some individual men need women more than some individual women need men. I don't need a woman, maybe I'd *want* one but I don't need one.
    Also, I would have appreciated more insight into the actual status of women at the beginning of second wave feminism. It seems like you're never given a true picture of it, even from Farrell. I mean how "oppressed" and held back were they really? How "arrogant" were men at the time? I'm pretty skeptical about all that.

  • @obsoletepowercorrupts
    @obsoletepowercorrupts 6 років тому

    I think Farrel has been slightly self-contradictory here, which is a pity because one part would have been ok had he not fouled it with the other. The biological father is irreplaceable, true, as with his duck example. The place of a man should not be taken over by another man. The place of men should not be taken over by women. It isn't that " _men need women more than women need men_ " (his words). It is that women need to do their part more (and that means not doing men's part like taking over).
    Women in supports roles, not in the limelight centre-stage is an example of women doing "their own" part. So, a woman interviewing and "buttoning it" is fine. Likewise it's fine with shoutouts for men content creators. Also, without handing too much power to the women doing their part, it might help if the women could find some way to have it come to pass that other women who impede (and who have impeded) men from having their own voice no longer get to do that to a man.
    The system is so clearly sacked against men that clearly enterig into it is not the way to emancipate those men. The lifespan of a man is too short for that. A man should not even need to point to such a woman or her step-chicken take-over-man for "corrective meaures" to magically happen. Think of what happens to men when he is deemed the baddy and she the damsel. Don't give me that lost look ladies.
    I don't believe any such things will happen.
    No wonder men go monk.
