      ✔ Music to my ears.
I bought a GTHO Phase 2 (Metallic blue) in September 1969 from McCleod Ford (Rockdale NSW) (I was in the ARMY by end of January 1971)
My dad freaked out, as the car cost half as much as an average house in those days.
My sister learned to drive in it, eventually I sold it to her. Now she drives like the Devil and can make quick decisions.
By end of 1971 my dad traded the family XT Falcon on to a 351 XY Fairmont.

Damn right , and the bonnet wobbles and shakes, the tops of the doors rattle and batter , they moved about a foot either way with every bump, they were an aerodynamic nightmare at speed pushing a flat brick wall into the wind, and in the corners at speed that big heavy 9” diff would skip and jump about like a angry snake, it was bloody frightening , what a rush it was compared to my Rspec, it all just sits there still like a lounge chair in cinema.

J.C. Kohle get outta here! I own a genuine Holden muscle car and this thing would tear an a9x a new a hole. No 308 ever caught an xy. Even hg-hk’s weren’t real competition. As for e38’s and e49’s, they may have been as fast as a phase 3 on 3.0:1’s down the strip, but what about the optional 3.5’s or 3.9’s?! Bill Bourke built them to wreak havoc and that’s exactly what they did.
High comp 351’s with solid cams and a driveline that simply wouldn’t break. There’s a very good reason that a real phase 3 is the most expensive Aussie muscle car of them all.

Just pure nostalgia for me with the sounds of the HO's v8 and then the slight pause on the up change because of the old manual "H" pattern box. Watching the driver dealing with the basic limitations of the car with no ABS, traction control, computers or high tech suspension/chassis geometry. Awesome to watch the other cars all dicing for a position and seeing the lighter ones go well over the top while losing out on the straights to cars like the GT. I'm a huge V8 Supercars fan, but i grew up in the days when the Aussie muscle cars started, even had a drive in a phase 3, and those three laps were the most enjoyable 3 laps of Bathurst ever, i was braking so hard coming down conrod straight, bloody awesome, thank you so much, this vid is a keeper, gotta show the young blokes how real blokes drove those beasts !

Excellent footage & sound.Chasing the yellow Charger was awesome then when the time was right to open up the big girl, she just left them for dead, even the right hand wiper wanted to jump off because it was scared towards the end of the straight. Can’t beat the top end torque of the V8’s.

That was an amazing experience!! Sure I’ve played on RealRacing3 and particularly loved my home circuit. As a kid, I loved the coupe XC etc Falcons, especially that “loverly ass”...actually more like thighs, that protruding section above the rear wheels. 💕it!
I never really saw a drivers POW before in this classic.
No wonder they did so well. I really wish I had raced go carts as a kid, then stuck with it.
My favourite driver will always be Ayton Senna though. RIP.
What fantastic, patient driving. Damm that GTHO was fast.
    I wish I was a kid again!

I only know the track as a video game - 'cos I'm living near Brands Hatch, SE England. To ride in the big V8 was heaven -- seeing loadsa cars from my youth just added to it. Great vid - looks like a great day - well driven Matt Mcgrath (y)

Most days it is a public road, speed limit 60kmh / 35mph. You need to drive it yourself to fully appreciate the racing. Off the mountain, it just drops out from under you. Scary stuff at race speeds. World class circuit.

    Great Stuff !
Times gone by of yesterday !
I Remember those Times,Oh so we'll of all the Ford boys of Moffit,French Gibson ,Goss ,Carter & a few others as well ,But never in my Life will I forget in 1971 the GT HO Phase 3 when Moffit Cleaned them all Up ?
I was at the mountain when He Set the fastest time in Shoot out for Pole ! Came inn & was Speechless,Could not talk because he was So fired Up & travelled at breakneck Speed Up & over the Mountain for that Time of the Seventies ? And during the Race drove around the Racecourse with the Sun Herald in the grill in front of the Radiator ! And just Shattered the Field ! Something I did not see before or ever after ? The Sound of these Cars in my mind will never be Replaced ?
Thank U Sir for the Video & the Reminder ,Spectacular ?

Heavenly sounds. Great driving by the whole field. Found myself looking at the collection of talent he passes. From the EH's blowing smoke to the charger and hundreds of cortina's, plus those beautiful little flyweight alfa's that are so much fun. Magnificent beast. Downshifts at end of conrod were like a beethoven symphony.

That was an adrenalin rush. Used to own an HO 72 Ute. In the old days you would jump in, after 12 schooners, and go nuts all the way home. It went like the clappers. Just loved the roar of that big V8.

Great video, as someone else said, who needs music, the HO makes it's own music. the diff ratio in those gave them 25mph/1000rpm, a competition prepared car pulled 6500rpm on the old conrod straight without any trouble - 150mph, a little less for drag, or 240kmh!
I've never so many cars in competition without rear vision mirrors.
