All 50 states have insurance regulation entities. The great anti-socialist state of Florida even has a socialist company (they call it an "agency") that puts a 1% fee on the bill of all homeowner's in the great anti-socialist state. This is there so that if there is a big storm and a company files bankruptcy, the The Florida Insurance Guaranty Association can still pay out the claim. The National Flood Insurance program operates across all 50 states. The nasty socialist program takes money from every home with a flood insurance policy, so that if a massive storm hits anti-socialist Texas of anti-socialist Florida, there is going to be enough money to pay the claims. Socialism is horrible... Until you need it to get a mortgage on your home.

Homeowner insurance is optional in California. California does not require it, but you may still be required to have it when somebody else requires it like your mortgage company. Nobody will lend you money if you do not have insurance in case your house burns down and they are left on the hook for a pile of rubble. Once your mortgage is paid off or you don't have one, homeowners are free to not have any homeowner insurance. If there was no home insurance being offered, mortgages will be impossible to get or the rates will be so high to compensate them for the risk of loss.
Our progressive democrat government in California needs to stop worrying about transgender bathroom issues and fix our insurance market.

Paradise CA lost 11,000 homes. Only 2115 have been rebuilt so far. More homes are still on the waiting list in Santa Rosa. Since 2019, costs increased by at least 30%. Today, cleanup/rebuilding can easily top $1 million, going up. With an average premium of $1500/year in CA, all IC can go bankrupt if a huge fire destroy any major city in the bay area.

California isn't the only one. Florida is in an insurance crisis because companies are pulling out. DeSantis told the big companies that if they did not offer home insurance, he would not let them sell car insurance ( you know, The GOP wants less regulation, but that is only something they say). Florida had to create its own socialist company called The Florida Insurance Guaranty Association. The FIGA puts a 1% fee on any home insurance sold anywhere in the state and puts this into a pool. This money would be used in the event of some giant natural disaster bankrupting some insurance companies. The socialist IFGA would use the money it takes from homeowners everywhere in the state to then pay the claims left on the table by the failed insurance company. The Federal government has its own socialist insurance program called the National Flood Insurance Program. A long time ago, insurance companies stopped writing insurance in coastal areas prone to hurricane flooding. The government had do do something or millions of homes would not be insurable. The horrible US socialist government worked out a deal with the insurance companies to disconnect flood insurance from the rest of the insurance, like fire or wind damage so this greatly reduced their risk. Now, the coastal citizens of the great anti-socialist states like Texas, Louisiana, and Florida (where the vast majority of flood insurance is sold can get flood insurance. Because everyone in the US that needs flood insurance pays into the NFIP, if there is a huge flooding event in Florida, the money collected from all of the rest of the country can be used to pay the claims in good old anti-socialist Florida. Socialism is evil... Until you need it... Then, suddenly, it doesn't look all that bad. No profits made by either FIGA or NFIP. All money collected is used to pay claims when needed.

@@geneheck LOL, You're kidding, right? One of the biggest insurers in the US is good old socialist Uncle Sam. Without Uncle Sam being in the game millions and millions of homes in the US would not be insurable and would become worthless overnight. Here is the deal. A long time ago, insurance companies stopped writhing insurance in flood prone areas. The damage from flooding was often so severe that insurers would go bankrupt when big storms it. The nasty old socialist Uncle Sam stepped in and said "here's the deal. If you will write the insurance for wind damage fire damage, and everything else, we will create a socialist business that will cover the flooding. That socialist business is called the National Flood Insurance Program The way the NFIP works is that no matter where you live in the US, if you need flood insurance, that money goes into a pool. Now, even if a horrible flood strikes the great anti-socialist state of Florida, the NFIP gives the insurance companies the money to pay the flood insurance damage. Without the NFIP, homes along the coasts or near larger rivers prone to flooding would not be able to get insurance. Yeah, socialism is horrible... Until you need it. The great anti-socialist state of Florida has the The Florida Insurance Guaranty Association. This socialist program adds 1% to the cost of any insurance policy written in the state. The money it collects goes into a pool that would be used to pay out claims if an insurance company went bankrupt after a large disaster. How socialist of them! California should do the same for home in wildfire areas. They could create an program that offers insurance from damage caused by wildfires alone and tell the insurance companies they no longer have to insure for it. Because the NFIP, FIGA, and any program that Califonia came up with are socialist programs, the are non-profits so don't pay any taxes because they have no earnings, and they don't have to pay the CEO $20,000,000 a year. But everyone hates socialism, so I guess that is a bad idea.
