Good UI and streamlined workflow makes users happy.😁
Hey Steve haven’t conversed with you in a while. I bought the unit soon after it came out. Used it for live and recording. Was mostly happy. I broke my wrist very badly. Had to have a plate installed with surgery. Been down for over a year. I’ve just done the latest update after not updating the unit in a very long time. Can’t believe how different it is. I have to learn to use it all over again. Thanks for the updates.
That's FUNNY because as soon as i saw the update, i thought of you with the pedal auto assignment gone, Then an hour later this vid came out and WOW u were doing back flips!!! I agree i'm just as HAPPY as u r, Keep up the good work, your vids r GREAT!!!!!
Thank you so much 😅😅🤣 made my whole year so far
I'm really glad to hear they're workin hard on it. I got quite a few Neural DSP plugins, eventually might have to get me a Quad Cortex to compliment it.
I just ordered one so this video could not possibly be better timed in my life. For real. Thanks, Steve.
Awesome! I've got some older vids with tips and builds if you wanna dig back and check them out 🤘🤘🤘
@stevesterlacci I've watched every single one. :)
Mine arrives tomorrow, so it’s a nice boat.
Man that means so much! Thank you
It's my pleasure. You're 100% one of the good guys.
Had this had dual function switches (tap & hold) I would be absolutely thrilled w the unit. Still Happy with the direction they're headed so far.
I hope they can add it!
I'm soooo stoked about the bypass of the auto-stomp assignment! Excuse me while I go screaming for joy around the neighborhood...
The main reason the X versions of the plugins are interesting is because the X versions are going to be compatible ONCE the CorOS adds compatibility.
Thank you!
Never use stomp mode but cortex control is great and makes building patches much easier. Thanks for showing us where the made by me is because that had me baffled.
I’m getting there with liking this unit as I’ve been quite pissed off for a while. On my 3rd unit after updates bricked two and my main reasons for buying was to use captures of my amps plus the omega Granophyre plugin live, have moved on though.
I still have an issue where some of my captures that are on the cloud under my profile have disappeared from my unit. Very strange as people are still downloading them but I can’t access them.
Yeah I was thinking of you when I saw the auto assigned bypass lol I’m glad it’s gone also but most happy about the tuner double click. It was always my biggest complaint especially on the quad cortex being the longest compared to the hx stuff. Glad to make the jump to the cortex it’s been the most positive thing that has happened to me in music since 2015 (when I opened for panic at the disco) still not amazed about the power supply but didn’t like the hx stomps either.
Yeah I've gotta explore this cause the tuner never bothered me 🤔 i never noticed how long it takes to engage
Great video! hair is on point, good audio levels, and well thought out content. Definitely gets a thumbs up from me.
You know my feelings on Neural so no point going there. All positive in 2024! #justiceforJessica
Hair definitely on point :)
@@vaughanmacegan4012 I agree. He does not have a 'man bun" which is so............well.........This is 2024 and I promised to keep it positive as I fight for justice for Jessica Lynn! #justiceforjessica
The X moniker means the plugin is available on QC. Plini X was a full UI refresh that let you use parts of archetype plini on the quad cortex
But not yet right?
The X suffix is actually related to the updated version of the plugin to modernise and bring in line with the newer plugins, with features such as transpose and doubler (that were only released in later plugins). An additional byproduct of this X release is that plugins that have been redeveloped will eventually (Q2 2024) be available on the Quad Cortex, but those that have not been through the redevelopment cycle will not (yet).
I’m happy for you. You’ve ranted about auto assign for years! 😂
I’m happy for me. I don’t have to hear it anymore! 😂
I thought of you immediately with the auto-assign! LOL
The X versions of the plugins will be the ones that are portable to the QC.
Hello Steve.
I'm about to buy my first modeller setup and I'm torn between the CQ and TMP. So after this update, which would you buy?
If I'm not mistaken, that's what PCOM is, plugin compatibility. That's likely why they were speaking about the Gojira plug in because the updates for that like the doubler and live tuner will be extremely useful for the quad cortex functionality. you should be able to link your Neural account to the whole thing and just import your plugins onto the quad cortex. that's been my understanding of the updates to come.
I purchased a couple of the NDSP plug ins prior to receiving my QC. My understanding is that once plug-in compatibility is released, I will only be able to load/install the plug-ins that I purchased. NOT any of that have been released.
Matching cabinets when you choose an amplifier? How hard is it to do that ? The correct speaker in a combo amp would be nice without having to menu dive
Im new to the qc and nuero dsp plugins and from what I know is the X updates are the first to be ported to the qc
Gotcha. Thanks! Hopefully they get it in soon
What they’re saying about PCOM is that the plug-ins first have to be converted to this X format. Once they are in that X format, they will be compatible with the QC when plug-in porting is ready.
I was finally able to find time to finish the video. It's excellent and is going to save me some time. Many of my patches were long ago dialed in so these updates aren't that big of a deal to me. I never had issues finding the captures I've made so maybe I'll appreciate that or not in the future. I mainly use scenes for drive effects but I might do stomp mode at a gig or something. IDK. I always thought the Quad Cortex was killer. The desktop editor isn't much different than the unit to me, so I wasn't pissed about that. I don't like most of the models or capturere from Neural, or 3rd party captures so that's no big deal. I ain't buying shit. I was happy before. I'm happy now.
They've been saying from the beginning that you won't have to rebuy the plug-ins. That's why they're doing the free X update. That will make the existing plugins QC compatible once that feature is released.
Really great updates but I’ve been burned before so I’m going to wait a while b4 updating.
I don’t know enough about this unit to know if I like it. I do think that it seems like they’re listening to their users and making the changes that are needed.
I don't care about the feature add, but I absolutely care that you aren't going to complain about it in every video now - that alone is worth it
Thank you bro💙💙💙 means a lot 🙏🏾
I saw the new autoassign feature and that the default was set to "off', and IMMEDIATELY thought of you. BAHAHAHA!! Did I hear cork pop from a champagne bottle? 🤣🤣🤣 Yes, the Quad Cortex really is there. In fact, I even bought a 2nd unit as a backup to my gigging QC and I get a free plugin that, hopefully, some day in the distant futire might possibly, maybe (but don't hold your breath) even work ON the QC. 😜
I LOVE MY QUAD CORTEX!! I've been giging withit for almost a year and am putting my Kemper Stage up for sale and I'm giving up on my Tonex, HX Stomp, Morningstar, NU-X Optima, Cioks pedalboard. The Tonex sounds GREAT, but I can't make those 4 things work as seemlessly as ONE QC. PLUS, it's twice the size and weight, so i'm set...done...finito!!
Any modeler on the market these days have plenty of amps and fx. I mainly care about functionality updates like fixing the auto assign footswitch issue. I liked the QC in general but the switches were way too close together to ever want to use it live. So I sold it because I didn't want $1600 just sitting on a desk when I can the same thing with a plugin.
Man I often look around at all the floor modelers I have and wonder "why?!" LOL
I'm with you with the stomp assignment man. But we win here and lose elsewhere...
Was the decimal point such a big issue? Now i gotta remember to punch it in every time 😩
There are a couple of great features in this update (yep, the footswitch auto-assignment thing being the obvious one!) BUT sadly, as is my general experience with the QC so far, once you scratch the surface, some of these updates are just not that well thought through - for example, at 7:14 you talk about the new 'Pin' function. At first I thought this was GREAT, but having played with it a bit more I find it a bit disappointing, and lacking in several areas;
1) It seems you can only pin something within the pop-up device loader list that appears when you ADD a new block from within the grid, and…
2) …you can’t pin something from within the Directory itself
3) When you view the directory there is no indication of which devices you have already pinned - they don’t appear at the top of the list, they appear wherever they would appear in the list if you hadn’t pinned them already, and there is no icon to show you that you’ve pinned them, so no way of knowing which are pinned and which aren’t (when viewed within the Directory, that is)
4) And worst of all you can’t pin IR’s, which is probably the device that most needs this function seeing as you can have over 1000 IR’s in your library 🙄
So Neural and the QC are getting there, but it is frustrating when a unit that offers so much is so hampered by poorly conceived or implemented updates to the UI
After getting the QC, I don't even care that much about plugin compatibility any more. There are so many presets and captures available in Cortex Cloud that I have just about any tone covered.
For sure! I just feel its still gotta be talked about since its in the notes. I personally won't use them unless they gave some to us
@@SteveSterlacci Absolutely, it was promised. I still use plugins for my DAW, but what I really want is a QC Native type plugin. Let me bring my tones into my DAW with the power of Cortex Control.
BTW as a new QC owner your channel has been super helpful.
can you change colours ??
I thought that all plugins with the X in the name were plugins that are both be updated to have features of newer plugins (transpose, doubler, etc.), but are also being developed to work on the quad Cortex.
There’s only one plugin that I can find with the ac and that’s the Plini.
so how do u by pass I know stupid ques I just one button clean/distortion?
This I why I chose Kemper two years ago - QC just wasn’t and kind of still isn’t mature enough. I’ll check back a few months from now, but just releasing the control software 1.0 isn’t mature enough for me
The screen looks kind of low res?
Can you use the cortex control stand alone like a plug in with out the actual unit being on?
unfortunately no. They would have to make QC its own plug in like Helix Native is
So in the last 18 months, how many new amps and effects have we got? All for quality of life improvements and bug fixes, but the update is very light on features. Pretty sure the feature complete helix line has had more effects and amps over that time period. 10 channels of 3 amps? Less than 10 new effects? Wish I could go back in time and had ordered a fm9. Pretty sure you don't play catch up by releasing less.
Steve, I am pretty sure that has been the deal the whole time. It is simply plug-in compatibility. No one was guaranteed copies of the plug-ins when they bought a QC.
For sure. I'm just wondering how many were sold a unit on the basis of being able to port plugins, but had to wait over 2 years for it to happen. To me, that's not really cool
@@SteveSterlacci ah, I got ya. I misunderstood. I agree with you completely. I was not one of those who bought on that premise specifically, but I did think to myself that if the plug-in support worked well, I may invest more money in some of their plug-ins.
@robertsimpson5801 for sure! Im curious how its all gonna work. It could really separate them from the competition
Why would you think you could get free plug-ins grandfathered in when the plug-in compatibility goes live? Some people have bought multiple of the plugins, why should people get them for nowt?
The only reason I would get a QC is for plugins.
I need help. I just can’t decide if the QC, TMP or Boss IR 2/200 is best for my personal needs. I am completely new to the modeling world. I just want to have it simple and have multiple very good Amp Sounds. I want to use it primarily for home use and with Headphones. Maybe I will use it for recording and I also want to use my Pedalboard.
Can anyone help me out?
If you’re just focusing on amp sounds through headphones and you don’t need any effects or anything, I’ve heard excellent things about the Boss IR-2. I had the Boss IR-200 and was able to get some really good sounds out of it. The IR-2 has a few more amps and is super compact and easy to dial in like any Boss pedal.
If you want effects, and it’s just for headphone usage, I’ve also heard the Boss Waza headphones are pretty top notch when it comes to a headphone experience. No personal experience though.
I’m looking to get a quad cortex soonish. I just sold all of my tube amps, analog pedals, cabs, etc due to a life changing situation and being a guitar teacher having dual inputs seems like an easy way to plug and play once I have a patch or 2 set up for that purpose. I also intend to start gigging again in the nearer future and hope it will do well as a combined guitar/vocal processor as well. Easy UI is a win too. I love tweaking but I don’t want to waste time digging through menus and focus more on the music itself these days.
Happy playing!
I wonder if we will have to purchase the QC versions of the plugins.
Yes you will have to. They've said it a bunch
@@SteveSterlaccieven if you already own plugins?
@@SteveSterlacciseems like they would allow you to download the updated QC version if you already own them currently.
@@Brent-Nelson68 yes, if you own them you should be able to once theyre compatible
i am an early adaptor and just assumed I would need to own the plugin to use it. maybe i'm wrong to assume greed? either way I own 5 different nueral plugins and will be happy to just direclty use the tim henson amps vs my captures of the plugins
I don't see it as a greed point to raise. I see it as they mentioned it'd be in the unit as a point to sell it to us, then had us wait a very very long time for it. Idc either way and idk if I'd even use them 🤷♂️
@@SteveSterlacci I wonder if we polled the community at large what type of answers we would get about what plugin support means to them. It’s been so beat up on the forums and other social platforms it’s all just vague right now ;). Cheers Steve
I’m sure we will get one free plugin for early adopters. It’s only fair since they offered that to later adopters.
I do not forgive you for missing the Vemural Ray. How dare you. 🤣🤣
I find the crusade for Plugin Compatibility to be a bit of a non-sequitur. Neural already has the R&D required to recreate the tonal aspects of the Plugin amps, so why not just release the different parts of the plugins as different amp and fx suites? 2024 Q1 could be an amp suite featuring amps from Nolly, Plini and Abasi, while Q2 could be an FX suite from Petrucci and Rabea.
Yeah man! That makss sense to me as well. I wonder if that will be the plan? Just the package of blocks becomes unlocked into qc?
That sort of plan may not go over too well with the folks who've already paid out for the plugins though. I could imagine a world where these FX and Amp suites are "unlocked" for QC via Cortex Cloud following the purchase of specific Plugins, thereby encouraging purchase of the plugins while also implementing their FX into the QC environment.
@matthewhoward4284 i mean if they are paid for, will they be unlocked as additional blocks within the existing stuff in qc?
@@matthewhoward4284 The way I could see this working (and maybe this is what they've been trying to figure out programming-wise) is having it so that you have to purchase the plugin, which gives you access to the amps and effects contained within now on the QC as well as in the plugin, but ONLY the ones you bought. Kind of like STL Tonehub, but on the QC. Because I imagine they want to incentivize people continuing to buy the plugins along with the QC.
Pedalbord from 0 nowdays? Or go for multiprocessor?
Quad cortex or fractal fm9?
Wonderful question. Impossible to choose 😅 i have both and many other options. If youre prepared to learn how to use it, the fm9 is always a good call. Qc is also amazing and easier overall to use
@@SteveSterlacci from a standpoint of tweakability, i heard fm9 is infinite.
@anotherone9219 absolutely. Sometimes to a fault. But you can go as deep or as shallow as you want and still get amazing sounds. Its a huge rabbit hole my friend
@@SteveSterlacci so if i dont want that QC better?
@@anotherone9219 there's so much more to the decision. If you want easy and great sounds, qc is a good choice. But it doesn't have the words above the foot switches so you need to look at the screen. It takes no time to get used to, but fm9 has the strips with words on it
For clarity, at 4:58, "I don't understand what that has to do with Quad Cortex though, right? This is 'Quad Cortex Development', not......are we getting access to that?" This press release is titled, "Quad Cortex Development Update #44 *& Plugin Development Update*." 5:42 "Does that mean they're working on that instead of the Plugin compatibility?" Right where you say, "yada, yada, yada", dismissing the rest of the press release, the second to last sentence literally reads, "*For the sake of clarity, releasing new plugins does not impact the speed at which either 'X' updates or PCOM will be released*." STEVE!!!! I love you, man, but focus!
That does make sense 😅
Lets face Facts: Neural is a TRAIN WRECK OF A COMPANY. Name another company that is a bigger trainwreck? They way overpromised and way way way way way way underdelivered. They've only been "working on a feature for 3 years now" that was the genesis for the whole unit! Remeber when the QC was demoed it was so; and I quote: "this unit will allow you to use our PLUGINS in a live setting without taking a pc or mac to your gig." Direct qoute from Neural.
Also another direct quote from Neural 1 year ago: "It turns out integrating the plugins is much harder than we thought." They currently are the only modeler that makes transfer of files extremely difficult. One at a time difficult. Never mind, I'm obviously pointing this out to a fanboi.........Your happy with yours, I'm happy with Helix, Best of luck to you. Happy holidays!!
We need full midi control. All other "modelers" I have used have allowed the user to program blocks to be controlled via external midi controller or DAW. I can attach a random CC for engage/bypass, and another for interval, then control it externally.
I can only control a block externally if it's attaced to a footswitch or a scene on the QC. Other modelers do not have to have their blocks attached to a fs. This is pretty dum imo.
The main reason I'm not getting the quad cortex is that there isn't a plugin equivalent to it like Line6 do with Helix Native. You need to spend thousand of dollars on separate plugins hoping they will be compatible instead of 99$ for all-in-one 1:1 Native if you are an owner of Helix. I want to sound the same live as our records and Neural don't allow me to do that. I don't want to mess with reamping and want that freedom when I'm editing my mix.
The plug ins that have an X after their name will have QC compatibility first......Plini X, Gojira X etc.
Gotcha, so the plug in update means that its being prepped to be included? Just wondering why that is relevant to the QC update... Thanks!
Yes, the implication has been that they need to be X version to be ported to the QC.@@SteveSterlacci
Thanks for the clarification.
the only thing remaining is for them to recoup all the current units and have them destroyed replacing them with version 2. I know 5 people including myself where the unit was uncoverable. Fine when it works not including wifi and power issues. Reliability 0/10
The Quad Cortex and Fractal floorboard have superior sound quality, but I am baffled by the fact how they have released their products with no-brainer functionality missing (initially). I have been using a Helix for years and was looking for an upgrade in the QC or Fractal FM9, only to discover that simple things I use and need in the Helix are just not there yet.
I am a gigging musician and I need a variety of sounds at the touch of my feet. I want a desktop editor for convenience and storing backups where I want. I want seemless switching and 8 presets/snapshots I can select without having to go through banks. I just want stuff to work and make my life on stage easier so I can focus on the music.
It's a shame that companies release products that really have great potential, but are not done yet. I don't want to be part of their R&D (and pay for it).
the friedman ir x has no problems so you don't have to wait for updates.
Ive got one here to demo! Its great
I would not buy this yet. Alot of my friends use this unit live.
I like the Helix stuff.
guitar players are artists ,they don't work for a software company wasting their time by trial and error or are they? all this modeler hype originates from using crappy backline amps like the hot rod deluxe.
