I can't imagine an honest conversation with Alistair Campbell about anything unless it starts with his confession to his complicity in Tony Blair's war crimes. If the major export we have with a place is deadly armed bombs, there can be no winging about them wanting to move to where the bombs are not falling.
I listen and enjoy the rest is politics, but also find their analysis incredibly limited, im a finance / economics professional, Alastair openly admits that’s not his thing, so Rory leads the statistical discussions but makes all the typical mistakes an amateur would. When it comes to very specific topics such as immigration, tax, economics etc it would help if they included experts in their discussions, otherwise they just end up spitballing misguided opinions but with huge influence!! Love your work, great video 🙏

If the time taken to make decisions on asylum seekers were halved, so would the spending on asylum hotels. And that could be achieved if the system weren't incentivised to search for every possible ground to deny an asylum claim.
Try looking at the crime stats published by Germany, Holland and Sweden on migrants! These people are a danger to the public! I would also advise you to look into what these people believe in - a shariah caliphate! Try and see how that plays out for you 🥴
For as long as we do not have any safe routes into the UK for migrants the small boat crossings will just continue . It's not a priority for this Labour government to stop the crossings as its only a small percentage of migration , besides they've tons more important issues to deal with . There's a lot more I can say in this issue but I do feel it's a non issue to begin with and is being exploited by populist politicians for their own gain .
They'd continue even with safe routes. Thousands who don't qualify for safe routes would continue hiring people-smugglers to bring them on overloaded, unseaworthy boats. For example, those from safe countries such as Albania, Ghana & India.

Deterrents don't work, smashing the gangs does not reduce the demand. Overstayers is hugely under reported, and the fees for legal work are punishing by Design

Well worth the watch. The case you make is inescapable, we need safe routes and speedy resolution of asylum claims. Much awareness is needed concerning the numbers of asylum seekers versus the number of migrants. I am disappointed that Labour haven't been more humane and continue the previous government's rhetoric.

What I've learned listening to you Zoe is that the field of migration and asylum is a bit deep to say the least, you teach me hew things every time i come here. While i think i still want to press for the book tying everything together academically, given what you say about Campbell Stew, which makes perfect sense, what about a more generalised short 'pot boiler' book or website introducing all the terms and gamut of issues in the language you use here? I can't find much that pulls it all together like you can.

An accurate video as always. Though, I can’t help but wonder at the the actual impact of personal appeals, powerful as they are, I suspect they are futile. Liberals/centrists have historically always preferred to continually try to ‘triangulate’ with the far right, over working, even in the slightest capacity, with the Left. We have seen exactly that happen repeatedly in France, Germany, US, and naturally, here. However, I hope you do manage to persuade fence sitters, pessimistic though I may be about the probability.
