Todays vlog will be a travel vlog in the city of Warsaw, Poland. This is my 2nd time here in Warsaw, Poland and I really enjoyed myself. In todays travel vlog to Warsaw, Poland, I went to dobra paczkarnia to eat a traditional polish donut for breakfast, after this i made a short stop at the Nicolas Copernicus monument, then i walked to the warsaw old town(stare miasto) where i saw some of the things in the royal plaza e.g. the royal palace of warsaw, sigmunds column and the remains of the old town walls of warsaw. After this i continued on into the main square(rynek glowny) to discover more of the Warsaw old town, before eating a zapiekanka, lunch at a milk bar(bar mleczny) and going for an afternoon walk in the famous lazienki park.

It was big fun to see America's Dunkin' Donuts twice attempting to conquer the Polish market, and twice forced to flee. In its struggle against Poland's pączki, DD was doomed from the very beginning, and IMO rightly so. ;) About the milk bars (bary mleczne): people usually think their roots are in the communist period (1944-1989), but that's wrong. The first milk bar was actually opened in Warsaw in 1896. Then milk bars developed to become popular in the inter-war time (1918-1939).
Communist period in Poland started in 1947, not in 1944 (what a crap) - after the communists rigged parliamentary elections, rigged the referendum and suppressed the civil war against them and USSR. Earlier (1945-1947) the economy was basically capitalist, and it revived fairly quickly after the war. In turn, 1944 was the year in which the USSR began to fight against the Germans on Polish territories and established a puppet communist government in Lublin, unrecognized by Poles or by the international community, which until the end of 1945 recognized the Polish government in exile in London - a continuation of the Polish pre-war rule.
In the years 1944-1945, the USSR hunted Polish partisans (members of the Home Army), and then shot them on the spot (i.e. murdering the anti-German resistance movement, under the command of the government in London, which also commanded 4 Polish armies on the eastern and western fronts). The liberation of Poland consisted of its hostile conquest, destruction, mass robbers of its property, even though Poland was one of the 5 main allies in the fight against Germany.

Copernicus was studying in Poland (University of Cracow ) and in Italy (Padova and Ferrara). He published his groundbreaking work in Cracow. For many years he also served the King of Poland as a canon at the castle in Frombork, fighting from time to time with Duchy of Prussia. This duchy was a state created on the ruins of the state of the Balto-Slavic Prussia (Prusy), which became in XIII century.the state of the Teutonic Order, and was defeated by Poland in 1410, Then it became secular and was a vassal of Kingdom of Poland until the 18th century - when Duchy of Prussia became Kingdom of Prussia of Frederick the Great).
In addition to Duchy of Prussia, there were also Royal Prussia, i.e. the province of Poland, which included part of the former Balto-Slavic Prussian lands (called Warmia) and the lands of northern Poland called Pomorze (Pomerania in Latin) and Kujawy. Interestingly, it was from Royal Prussia that the Poles for several hundred years exported to England (via the port in Gdańsk) trunks of tall spruces, which were massively used in the English fleet. Hence the English name "the spruce "(after Polish "z Prus" "from Prussia").

Great to see you again mate. I remember you are partially Polish, you may not speak it fluently but you pronunce Polish words very well. A bit odd time to visit Poland, if it snows you wll like it.

I can't believe Warsaw is so calm, quiet and empty now. In Łazienki especially. It looks like it's so much easier to walk and even breathe there. I wonder if it's because of autumn has started and people prefer to stay at homes or because of pandemic.
Personally I prefer different kinds of cities, like Gdynia for example, modern but not that big.
Btw Aren't you cold in this shorts? The weather is getting roughter and colder.

I taught myself yeah :) yes people always tell me i have a good accent especially for a self-taught speaker

I'm impressed for that motivation, I suppose that not too many people with Polish ancestry there try learning it as the language may be challenging. Your Grandma must have been really inspirational person, if I may use this word.
