- Bristol on the absolutely stunning bells of York Minster, 12 bells, 59cwt, John Taylor and Co.. Managed to persuade dad to bring me to the Tuesday practice, because I wanted to ring on some nice bells!
Thank you so much… I know it's not the same as being there, but for those of us in the states who fell in love with change bringing through Dorothy Sayers descriptions, it is a treat to be able to go online and search for the sound. i've heard it a few times in my life, but I have not yet had the pleasure of hearing York Minster, although I have been there.
I love these bells they are a hauntingly beautiful sound. Got to ring there in 2000 only rounds but at least i can say i have rung there. Could lay on the floor shut my eyes and listen to them for hours
Heard these the other week bloody gorgeous!!!!
Superb bells, as good to ring as they sound! Rather pleased to have had the opportunity to grab them last year :-)
Very nice bells rang in John Setamu's Minster how lovely nice video Jemma Mills
One of the best 12's there currently are in my opinion even if I do prefer Redcliffe ;)
in my opinion Redcliff dose sound a bit better but york minster still has lovely bells
Will be a while before the newly trained volunteers can get to this standard!
I would be ringing here this year in July, but can't because of COVID. :( - Hope i can do it next year!
Hopefully ringing here in 2021!!
The Contest will be held at Worcester. Sorry to disappoint.
@@RingerThomas I know... I guess you are in Young Ringers as well? I am still looking forward to it though and Worcester Cathedral has always been on my list of places to ring!!
BellringerBen I’m in Surrey Strikers.
@HarryBellringer Nice... Haven't heard of them before... The name of the band I ring with is Go Bellistic!

happy birthday
Do you have to ring anything specific to ring here?
You just have to ring well.
there bells r to remain silence this christmas all volunteer ringers sacked found an artical & it was saild on BBC R2
Are they easy to ring or not?
they go really well, the only thing is you have to hold them up around the front a lot, as with all 12's...
Ok, thanks!
I ring at a place with only 6 bells, but bell ringing isn't hard when you get the hang of it
I also ring at a 6 bell tower at a village called Great Amwell in the eastern district. They are lovely to ring
Details as follows
Treble: cast by Gillett and Johnston 1954 weighing 4-0-10
2: Gillett and Johnston 1953 weighing 4-0-12
3: cast by an unknown founder circa 1499 weighing 4-0-13
4: cast by Robert oldfield 1612 weighing 4-3-4
5: cast by John Harding circa 1558 weighing 5-2-12
Tenor: Cast by Gillett and Johnston in 1953 weighing 6-3-24 in the note b flat
Sanctus: 1/2cwt by John Harding around the same time as the 5th
We put the order in with G&J in 1953 when the 2 and tenor were cast while bells 3, 4 and 5 were rehung from the hung dead for clapper chiming and retuned. We ran out of money so in 1954, a nice woman Mrs Brown gave us the money to have the treble cast leaving us with the amazing 6 we have today.
moncky2000 Funny you keep saying ‘we put an order’ or ‘gave us’ etc but in the 1950’s you weren’t even alive! 😂
Why is a man shaking his head
to count places to the method
it's something the Tenor ringer will sometimes do, in order to help them keep their timing during the ringing
Yeah why dose he do that
