FINALLY !! Quite possibly the best video, I have come across. Especially the fact you took your time to show why the other "easy" option won't work. Thank you.
I have literally watched 8 you tube videos from professionals, never mind the newbies who were practicing, to find one that works, and this is by far the best and easiest. THANK YOU very much.
This is a great tutorial, I am going to practice on some photos. One thing I'd comment on is the speed in which you go through the tutorial. If you could slow down, especially when clicking icons and creating layers, that would be helpful. I had to back up the video several time and rewatch so I could see where you were clicking on tools, effects etc. But over all, very good. Thank you.
oh, my goodness....you're just the best. I followed all the instructions and I came up with a very beautiful image. thank you. this means you just got one more subscriber.
you forgot explain the brush hardnace and size using short cuts, this is one of the finest short cuts ;) ctrl+alt up/down is hardness and ctrl+alt left/right is size. PS iris shape is for Bokeh effect, using un even numbers gives much nicer effect especially when there are high lights in the sceen. Stunning colors you put on that last image, i found the mood already good but it did add something extra. Great job!
If you are a creative person, working in Photoshop will give you more pleasure than feeling of owing an expensive equipment. If you can paint in a natural way, it will give you even more pleasure, than working in Photoshop, leave alone working with a camera, even if it is an expensive one. Again, if you are a truly creative person.
hey i also had the same problem there is 2 cases :1/ if it is in the filter menu but it's disabled all you have to do is right click on the copie layer and choose the command rasterize it 2/ if it's not in the menu go check for Lens blur.8fb in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop version\Required\Plug-Ins\Filters ? IF you can't find i suggest you re-install and look for an update to Ps
Me too. It is Oct 2019, i'm trying to follow this tutorial exactly as shown, but can't. I get lost when you say click new readjustment layer icon and select solid color black. I tried to that exCtly, but my bersion of PS doesn't do what your's did.
Yo, did y'all figure this out? I have a .psd file I created a couple years ago using the exact steps in this tutorial. Looks like the vid. Did it many times. Starting from scratch on a new image, with PS CC, (v.20) and yeah, nah. Cannot see any lens blur, even after creating my depth map the exact same way. What's the deal, here? So annoying. I love the accuracy of this method and it used to work great. Now, CC is like "Pfft. You thought."
I did all step by step and at the end, I got no blur at all in the photo... Does this work with windows? I am using Adobe CC 2017. I don't understand what don't work...
This tutorial was made on Windows. I'm not sure where you've might of missed something. Try it without the alpha channel first and see if the whole image gets blurry.
"Select and Mask" is the new "Refine Edge". It looks a bit differently but the old tools are there plus some new ones. Here's a video that shows how it works. ua-cam.com/video/j3gnMlHGg-I/v-deo.html
It's not the same tool, its horrible! Btw, you can use old refine edge. Select your things and put Shift down and choose Select/Select and mask... keeping your shift down
Amazing, you save me to expand a lot of money with a camera and a f1.2 lens, i can keep photografing with my cellphone, i know this technique, but not so professional, i use to blur all the area, this way it`s amazing natural. Thanxs a lot !
Thanks for the tutorial. I found it very helpful. Did a shoot outdoors with 3 & 5 year old "very active" boys. Had to stop down to get both within reasonable focus. Your tutorial was great. Don't listen to the negative critics. Your tutorial was useful.
This is wonderful! I've been a little bummed because I can't afford an f/1.8 lens right now... but this tutorial will help me achieve the affect I'm looking for until I can save up for a better lens. THANKS!
This is a legit tutorial. Thanks for the help, it was really fun and exciting to be able to learn and follow along! I'm more excited to keep doing this!
Omg yesss thank you!! I have followed half a dozen videos on this and yours has been the only one to work for me! It's also so easy to follow along with! Thank you so much for making this video!
Oh. My. GOD. Thank you so much for this. WOW. I have been racking my brain trying different things to get this effect to work on my own, I always got the ghosting effect and I hated it. Dude, you saved my life. (not really, but it expresses my pure happiness for this tutorial. I am bookmarking this tut till I remember how to do it on my own. This helped a ton. Thank you so much.

oh, my goodness....you're just the best. I followed all the instructions and I came up with a very beautiful image. thank you. this means you just got one more subscriber.

the best photoshop tutorials channel I have ever seen
Thank you!
- Spend thousends of dollars on a fullframe camera
- Spend thousends of dollars for a great lens
- Choose max aperture
If you are a creative person, working in Photoshop will give you more pleasure than feeling of owing an expensive equipment. If you can paint in a natural way, it will give you even more pleasure, than working in Photoshop, leave alone working with a camera, even if it is an expensive one. Again, if you are a truly creative person.
Creativity comes in many different ways but you know that if you are very creative.
If that is how you spell *thousands*, i dont think you deserve any of that
Fullframe has nothing to do with depth of field.
Very helpful. I was really struggling with blurring the background in my pictures, now it's all clear
+449new I'm glad it helped!

+Nickhil Konvicted Nawab You're welcome!
Does this work the same way for 2019 version because I followed the tutorial exactly and I am unable to see the blur.
same, tried several times following steps :(
The UI is a little different. Still works though.

@@MelodyPaxton How has the UI changed in CC and what does that mean for how you interact with PS to get the same effect?
Awesome. The best tool to solve the issues with a distracting background.
Thanks!
I did all step by step and at the end, I got no blur at all in the photo... Does this work with windows? I am using Adobe CC 2017.

Same here
Same here. I didn't get any blur
I followed your steps and performed them three times and when I click lens blur, all I see is white. :(
I followed all the steps, watched the tutorial twice. No blur at all, and when I invert the whole photo gets blurred.
Thanks for reminding about the Quick Mask mode with Brush selection! Totally haven't remembered this easy fix since college!
GOD BLESS lol
You're welcome! 🙂
kept watching because I thought we were saying "death map"
lol
Wonderful Tutorial. I have found your technique to be the simplest and the BEST. Thank you very much
Good tutorial, but why do you photoshop the light source one left while the actual light source is from the right?
+yi lei The sun was on the left. Look at the original photo. you can sort of see it.
Yea way her skin is lit I def agree it looks like sun is supposed to be on right. Everything was great except that sun
In absolute amazement of the skill here 😳👏👏👏
Thank you!
I need help because Refine Edge isn't showing up all that is is select and mask
"Select and Mask" is the new "Refine Edge". It looks a bit differently but the old tools are there plus some new ones.
