As a fellow WRX hatchback owner I always give a head nod to evos that past. I just love the body style and curves of the hatch. I do think the evo is a nice car, if built right. If I had a choice I would own both!
I totally agree. I am looking to get a WRX this spring and it will be my first Subaru. I cannot afford the STI nor even the EVO for that matter. I want something that looks great and is within my price range. I need an everyday driver and something that has a bit more punch than my current Mazda 3.
FINALLY! I have been asking for this review since I first started watching. I was a former STi owner and now I currently own an Evo X. I agree with pretty much everything said. Go for an evo for fun, go for the subie for everyday driving.
There's something almost magical about how the Evo connects to the driver and to the road. The sharpness and feel of it is like very few cars ever made and the Sti just hasn't quite figured it out.
Way different platform than any other STI. You should give the 2015 STI a chance it handles like an Evo X if not better. There are a lot more reviews out there that say the 2015 STI out performs the Evo X. Don't let reviews make up your mind tho or even me see for yourself and test drive one, It's an amazing car!
I agree with you. I own a '11 STI and test drove the '15 STI until the cows came home.. it doesn't compare to the EVO. It's a give and take though. I wish i had both cars to be honest. If they were both the same it would have been impossible to choose. At least being the way they are it gave me options to what suited me best... Either way i wouldnt go with anything other than an EVO or STI. The most respected rivalry
Jan-Michael Franklin my 15 sti can fit a big ass cooler ( with bottles of beer) in the trunk for camping. not to mention camping supply for 3 people. can your evo do that? STI FTW!
So awesome to see the video up finally! I own the Evo used in the video and I've gotta say I'm very impressed with these guys and how they run their operation. It was an awesome experience. Having driven the 2015 STI I would still take the Evo X every time. They're both great cars though and I'd honestly be happy with either of them but the Evo is still the more focused drivers car of the two and I'll gladly give up the refinement of a brand new car for the feel of the Evo. Great video!
In the press conference, Subaru said that sales figures favored the sedan (I think they said 3:1 but don't quote me). Because of that, they went with producing only one model of the car, and doing it well, rather than trying to split the R&D into two divisions and release 2 cars. Will the hatch return? Maybe, but right now the Sedan is throwing down better lap times at Nuremberg so... maybe not
They don't sell. They look good but people don't buy them. The hatch came out first back in 08 and yet more sedans were sold than hatches. Hatches were only 1/3 of Subaru's sales.
Barrettcoronalight that's just cuz the 08 hatches looked like crap. It's the newer ones that got the wider body styling and more aggressive looks that sold. all of the sedan versions from 08 on have looked weird, especially the new 2015 sti (the rear honestly causes me to die a bit every time i see it..). Most sti's in my area are hatches. I own a sedan and that's just because I got my sti back in 07 and hatches weren't around back then.
K.I.S.S. Data Technologies that’s awesome I want a final edition are you going to switch out the seats? I really hate how Mitsubishi pulled the Recaro’s off the final edition
12:04 not quite. in a chicane, not even necessarily a tight chicane, the AYC will fight you in the second corner because it doesn't act fast enough to stop sending power to the outer rear wheel when you go through the first corner (which becomes the inner rear wheel as you go through the second corner in the chicane). i haven't had any experience with any generation STI but i haven't heard of the same issue with them.
You guys rock. Always calling it like you see it and for good valid reasons. Nice to see that the 2010 WRX is still valid in your eyes even after driving so many other wonderful cars.
I love the fact that you guys always deliver QUALITY reviews compared to some other channels that simply squeeze out not so informative quick reviews that basically repeat the info we can get from a brochure. The waiting time is long, very long, granted, but it's well worth it. To me the biggest selling point of your channel is your williingness to listen to and care what us viewers demand for. You guys cover lots of interesting comparisons that I'd like to see (and that's the reason I noticed your channel in the first place). Maybe try to grab some sponsors and try to to some aftermarket parts review? Tuner community is really big now. BTW, I'm really glad you guys still love this good 'ol Evo. I absolutely love mine.
Finally! Really glad this comparison has finally been made. I do agree with the new 2015 STI being a better rounded daily driver especially due to the trunk space. The Evo literally has half the space a normal lancer does & no foldable backseats because the battery being in the trunk. But maybe I just have a strong nostalgic connection to the Evo. Still on the hunt for an Evo IX MR. What's rather unfortunate is that Subaru will be alone in the market segment. Hopefully Mitsu will build another eventually.
I don't think Mitsubishi is coming back to this segment. They are literally run by people with big shoes and red noses. And this 2015 STi is the first STi I would ever take over a Evo. I think the Evo is better looking, but the STi would make a much better daily. And I don't find the 2015 STi to be a bad looking car for any angle, so the looks of the Evo wouldn't win me over. You can't fold the back seats down in the Evo though because of all the extra bracing it has hidden behind the seats.
I wish you guys could have compared the 2015 with the 2011-2014 hatch since the 08-10 was so much softer than the GD's were and they took a lot of criticism for it and had to make a change with the face-lifted model starting in 2011. Great review, I just feel like the 2015 is lacking character which is usually what the STI is full of.
As presenters you guys are fantastic! A mark of a good youtube channels is 're-watchability' and your videos have that in spades. What could use work is video editing and the overall feel of the videos. They seem very...early 2000's. Content wise though, great stuff. Hard to find thorough well informed used performance car reviews on youtube.
+UQ35 - We're glad you like what we do and the guys presentation style. We try extremely hard to make work that can be enjoyed more than once. We're open to comments and suggestions... but are left guessing what you mean in saying the edit feels "early 2000s", as there are a million editorial styles. If you have something specific you'd like to see or wish was different, we'd welcome your commentary. Thanks very much for watching and commenting!
+EverydayDriver I have absolutely no expertise regarding video editing, so i can't really give you any specifics. However, I believe some great examples of more "modern" editing can be found in Motortrend's and Drive's videos. Using those for inspiration might really be helpful. Yall do a great job with content though, and I'd hate to see that suffer at the expense of fancy editing tricks. Not sure whether that was helpful but its the best I've got! Keep it up!
This was a good review, well balanced and unbiased. While I can see how the 2015 STi is a better all round "car", what I took away from this is that Subaru still haven't been able to match the Evo from 2007 in the fun/driver factor.
Well for me, whatever the review is, I like EVO X, how it's called is cool, how it sounds, is cool, hot it looks is cool. It really just depends on each of our taste. :)
Which let's be honest, is the entire motivation behind buying either of these cars. So my .02 is that the STI is selling out, offering more knobs to play with to the casuals while the Evo kept its mancave and porn and stayed hard.
I love the scenery in these videos. Most shots remind me of the roads in New Mexico that I knew and loved. ...Mountain roads that were my Evo's happy place.
Having bought a 15 STI, if you hit the lever on the side of the seat, it'll gladly lower you down far enough that a 5'7 person can almost sit on the floor to the point that the steering wheel is in the way of the windshield. I don't see you mention the fact that you can adjust the seat hight once in your review, so I felt the need to point that out.
Sparatan117 - Our guys had the seat lowered - and the new STI still felt like it had a higher seating position than the other two. We didn't mention that the seat can be lowered because that's a fairly standard capability. Also, the guys are both 6'3" so there are certainly times when being smaller would be helpful. Glad you're enjoying your STI! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I am 5'11" and own a 2015 WRX and have the seat as low as it will go and it clearly sits up much higher than the previous gen WRX (which I owned) and an Evo (which I have driven many times). The 2015 has really good visibility, but I totally agree with the guys that you sit to high. I thought the guys review was spot on. 2015, for me, is much sharper and more focused than the previous gen in terms of handling. The car feels much stiffer (as it is). Suspension is much tighter. But as a result of that it is not as forgiving on bad pavement vs the previous gen, but it is a trade-off I will take all day long. I love the Evo, but the interior is just bad. The steering wheel will not telescope and it drives me nuts as I could never get it in the right spot for me.
EverydayDriver Cool. I've never owned one before, so seeing that lever was new to me. If I didn't know, then I'm sure there are some others but never the less, points well made. One other question, did you guys drive it in Auto + ? Or did you drive it in Auto - or did you just do manual DCCD? Auto + seems to comply with whatever I want to do in corners but feels kinda loose, whereas Auto - feels like I'm playing some sort of 90s NASCAR simulator at the arcade where it tries to rip it out of my hands if I hit something. That's not necessarily bad as it lets you know you hit something pretty substantial, but I'm just curious since ... long hair (Paul?) seems to make that a defining point about the 15 STi's handling.
Yep, I'm loving every second of my '15 STI, but the seating position is higher than it was in my '12 WRX and my friend's EVO. It doesn't bother me at all, but you can definitely tell the difference when switching between the cars. Until you get used to it again, the '15 feels a tad more SUV-y seat wise. But all that glorious visibility for sweepers now!
EaGLeBiaN Thank you... We've got a lot more big stuff on the way this year. We're not fast, but we focus on independent high-quality films. Glad you found us and subscribed!
I'll be honest here. I respect the WRX, the WRX STI, and the EVOs, heck i've considered getting each at one point. But i think i'll go with the EVO for memory/nostalgia sake since i grew up with one. Hate me all you want, but when it REALLY comes down to i think, it's all user preference. Each car has their beautiful traits and cons.
I have an Evo X and a 2013 GTR. Also had a couple of hawkeyes (06-07) subie STIs. And recently I sat in a 2015 STi. I agree with about 90% of your review's conclusions (sti vs evox vs 15sti and 08gtr vs 12gtr vs evo x). Very high quality reviews you did there.
Having owned a 2013 sti and now a 2014 evo x I can say that the evo is miles better in terms of handling and tuning potential... The only think that really lets the evo x down is the 5 speed gearbox, I know it's tough as nails but almost painful to drive for the at least the first 10 and nowhere near as smooth as the Sti,
Recently purchase a WRX STI 2016 and I have to admit this is the beast. Interior, exterior everything are just so modern. I been driving a Camaro SS 2011 for 4 years but now that I'm in love w this STI.
Great Review as always, guys! I'm always astonished how good the quality on your videos has become. They are very well worth the wait. Where did you film that? The scenery looks beautiful.
Excellent review. I'm a subaru guy...but it's sad to see the end of an era. I have a strong feeling that they will bring it back. The demand and tradition is just too great not to. I think it's a tie between the 2015 sti n evo X .
Wouldn't hold your breath. Mitsubishi is even essentially on its last legs in the North American market; they're pretty much putting all their money on black (Outlander PHEV) and praying it doesn't come up red.
I'm not sure if there was that much of a demand. Even if you see a lot of us enthusiasts asking for an Evo, it's not like the car is selling like hotcakes. The truth is, enthusiasts are almost like a minority when it comes to car sales.
I agree with the suspension being really stiff on the 2015, I own a 2017 and I don’t like it that much when im driving around the city, but once I hit those back roads it completely comes alive
The 2015 "tugs" at the wheel because it has torque vectoring. Surprised that wasn't mentioned. All 3 cars are great. I prefer the Subi because it's a better car for me everyday. The EVO is sharper, but more of a pain to live with on a day to day basis.
I bought an Evo X (WW) because of Todd's review. I've owned it for a year and a half. Best car I've ever owned. Thank you Todd. Oh, I do over 2 hours a day highway travel with it. So fun. Yes, it's loud but life is short.
Finally! Thanks for this review, guys! I've owned 2 of the 3 cars here, and I'm convinced the 'Goldie Locks' is in the 2015 STI. Oh, yes. She will be mine.
I still own a 2006 it was the last true rally Subie from the factory that's got good power. Be prepared to spend a lot of money to rebuild the Subie. The Evo still after a rebuild will make more power in the end & that engine is still one of the best to mod over the Subie.
I have a 2015 Evo FE now. I still have my 2006 WRX STI. I just went to Subiefest this September . Honestly I'm about to sell my 06 WRX STI. The 2015/16 WRX STI is really visually looks like a Toyota Camry with an oversized wing. I still like my Subaru but come on it's not the end all & be all of a rally car anymore. My Subie was built by the original owner Ivo of RENNER MOTORSPORTS. My point to this all is don't be afraid to move on to something different or better.
While I agree with this review for the most part, I cant help but think, if you are buying and Evo or Sti because you want comfort and power, you are kinda buying the wrong cars, I mean, when I drive a car, if its comfortable it sets in place a feeling of relaxation, like all I want to do is cruise, but when I drive a raw car (like my r33 gtst) I AM the driver, I can feel EVERY single thing that is happening, and that raw intensity keeps me alert, as long as an evo/sti has padding on the seat for my arse, I will be happy with either, but I really think and prefer that performance cars have performance feels, even the intense raw-ness.
100% agree. I laugh every time a reviewer starts talking about comfort in cars like these. Sure you expect some level of smoothness and comfort, but at the end of the day the reason you're buying one of these cars is to go quick on a budget and have as much fun as possible behind the wheel. You've got to give up some things to achieve that.
Ben Edwards Exactly, if you want luxury and comfort, go Euro... it's about all they are good for lol, god only knows their expensive parts aren't their selling point, or if you want balance, buy a family sedan in a v8, but if you want fast, exhilarating performance, with unmatched handling and torque, go these kind of cars, long as it has the essential, comfort is VERY irrelevant.
You two make very well produced videos, and they're one of the reasons that I come to UA-cam. Please continue to make them, but as most commenters I have a request. If y'all are lucky enough, please do a e36 m3 (3.2) vs. 300zx tt. I know the 300zx is a tad more expensive, but it is also is a bit more car. Thank y'all for awesome videos, and if y'all can make this review come to life, I would be amazed and thankful :D KEEP IT UP
I was going to buy a new Evo. in 2015, but got put off the idea by it's freeway performance coupled with the fuel mileage, due to the low gearing. I felt it wasn't the car for me - it's hard to state how much I regret that decision now. The great thing about having a late model Evo is that as they no longer make them, you have a time capsule that you never need to sell, or feel you are falling behind with. If you have an STI they keep bringing out a new model, which in on way is great, but means the one you have keeps being outdated.
You drove the wrong year 3g sti... the 11-14 had the better suspension and a better front bumper. It is almost like 08-10 is the 3g and the 11-14 is the 3-1/2g. ^^ totally different yet the same to the untrained eye. My next car 11-14 wrb sti limited hatch. Gold bbs wheels would just be the icing. P.s. no one compares these cars in the dirt. Try an scca rallycross and you might understand the differences in mitsu vs subi drivetrain.
Men and Motors, NO - NO, this isn't the UK, but boy do these fellas know how to review cars. Fantastic technical reviews, feedback, real world comparisons and everyday street livability ratings. Not the dumb hooligan vs the smart snob gentleman, no the conservative one VS the mullet, LOL! Regardless of how baldy and locks look or come across - they are both smart and give you tons of great feedback while driving each car. And of the best thing about them is that they actually talk to you - like you are there being talked to with a great backdrop of the CARS on the road, NO MUSIC, only the car soundtrack, and review dialogue - THAT IS HOW YOU REVIEW CARS! I enjoy their videos and would some day like to make car related films, reviews or other. GREAT JOB GUYS! Motortrend videos don't have anything on you guys. Love your videos :D
One point that most of the reviewers fail to consider when comparing the EVO X to the STI is that in 2015 SUBARU still has not offered an advanced Automatic transmission such the SST of the EVO X available since 2007. Seriously sometimes I cannot help but think how some people think they can be car reviewers when they fail to consider this, how can the STI be a better all rounder without an advanced auto box! Being in the car business for the last 8 years and having driven or owned all sorts of cars either manuals or Automatics, I can safely say that New age Auto boxes make a car a better all rounder, they even make better use of the engine's power and for those who insist that automatics are for people who can't drive, well at 2 milliseconds that takes a new age autobox to change gear, even the best driver can't match in a manual, take for a example the EVO X, the SST is faster than the manual, same goes for all BMWs equipped either with the 7 speed DCT or the magnificent 8 speed ZF. And it is not only about speed, an automatic gearbox makes a car much more comfortable and more suitable for everyday use when you can't afford to have a second car, driving up a mountain with an autobox is definitely more comfortable than with a manual and at the same time it can be more satisfying with the flappy paddles behind the steering wheel.
Automatics are absolutely faster, there is no doubt about that, but Subaru realized that its customer base just isn't into automatics. The Evo is more refined all around, and some people like that. The STi doesn't appeal to the same crowd because it is not built to be refined, it is meant to be more animalistic. They don't really rag on the STi for not offering an automatic, because even if it came with an automatic they would still review the manual version. You won't see many reviews of the Dodge Challenger Hellcat with an automatic because that's not what the majority of its fanbase wants to see, and that is the same with the STi. Should a reviewer give the Dodge bad marks if it didn't come with an automatic? Would it be nice to have the option of an auto in the STi? Sure, and I'm guessing with the Evo on the way out they may consider that in the future, but as it sits right now they have no real reason to.
Evo all day, except the STI always had my vote because of a 6th gear. If I didn't need to highway commute, I wouldn't even look at an STI over an Evo. Excellent comparison and I really like the older Sti.
Sti and wrx are great cars but I will always choose a evo. I have been in love with this car from the first day I saw it and knew that it exist. Specially the all white and black one. It all comes down to if you are a evo fanboy or sti/ wrx.
***** I think they might be biased towards the subi, and I'd agree with them, but I get why people love the Evo so much, it's an incredible performance machine! And no doubt, in sheer tarmac performance it will run laps around the subaru (both the '10 and '15). But personally I like the Subaru for its versatility and adventurous nature. I wouldn't care about the handling in the '10 STi, or the "worse" interior. I actually prefer it to both the Evo AND the new STi. I'd much rather have the softer ride and looser and lighter steering, not because I want to cruise around like some douche showing off, but because I'dlike to bring it into situations that would favor such a setup, like on very bumpy gravel roads/mountain roads, snow, ice etc. In these conditions the setup of the old Sti is better because it absorbs the impact of its weight better in various situations, and you wouldn't want a super responsive or tight steering and stiff suspension that would have the car spinning uncontrollably at the slightest hint of a corner or bump. the '10 STi would be a car for adventures in my opinion, but yea that's just me. And I am glad there exists an Evo for guys like you who prefer that!
***** You are wrong and right, People buy Evos, yes because of its performance and over all it is slightly better than the Sti and trust me that was hard for me to write because i am a Subaru owner BUT "More" people Buy the STi and WRX because as Stefan Serbia said it is more Loved i mean when you buy a Evo your're like yeah i got an Evo.....so but when you buy a STI Your like FUCK YEAH I GOTTA FUCKING STi!!!!!!!! *Subaru rumble*
In my opinion subbies are just one of those cars which have very distinct feel . They have a soul. Its like driving a 97 e36.You never forget the feelings till the end of your life . But thats my subbie fan opinion .
I like the Evo because I can find it in a parking lot of Subies (which surround me in Colorado). LOL Great comparison, because it leaves the viewer with a choice!
THANK you for doing this review I am VERY sad that the EVO is going away but the new STI looks like a good replacement. Love both of them. For me the 2006 STI and EVO 9 & X
get the evo. wait for the new revolutionary sti in the future. EVO looks drop dead gorgeous and can pull off with the spoiler a lot better. New sti is okay... I test drove the new sti and it was fun but looks bland from the rear. Subaru please make a 350-400hp sti make it look exactly like the 2014 wrx concept car.
and you are also a bullshit because the 2015 is the best. Subaru, please do not listen to MetalsForBrunch and stick to something what you do best, and the 2015 STI LOOKS exactly like the 2014 WRX Concept Car.
Richard Joash Tan You must be blind if you think the '15 sti looks like the wrx concept... Subaru hasn't released anything that looks anywhere near as good as the evo x... and I'm a proud owner of an '07 sti. I was planning on upgrading when I saw the concept, but after they released the production car... I have to say I died slightly on the inside.
One more time, just one more time. Stop. Stop talking about comfort in these cars and their interiors, wow. Everyone knows what these cars are and what they're for.
I really highly doubt that. Prior generations of the Evo have had much more credibility than the X has purely because of the advent of electronics; the one that's most likely to become a cult classic arguably already has: the VI.
Some of the points they mentioned were how I felt when I test drove the STI and the Evo X last year. Fortunately, both dealerships were across the street from each other so I was able to test drive both. They were both super fun, but out of the box the STI didn't have the 'punch' right away like the Evo did. The STI was way more comfortable and the interior quality felt better. The Evo was loud, clanky, and the interior wasn't as nice. But in the end I had more fun in the Evo. The boost just pulled harder… I ended up going home in the Evo, but I guess in a perfect world I'd own both. Make the STI my fun daily driver and the Evo my track car.
7:00 he says it feels punchier lol....it actually makes more on top than older 2.5...extra wire on the 02 sensor(now an oem wideband for wot fuel trim) and turbine housing is a different, bigger casting...thanks to Perrin for dissecting it. Also pre-rolled rear wheelwells for 275 rubber. Had an 05RS Evo modded and looking forward to this sti. Mitsu is a great car but the Subies are way easier to daily drive w all the tq down low. Now the steering rack and suspension hard points rebushed/optimized.
I like how Subaru cant even match an Evo X which came out in early 2007 with a 2014 STI! 7 years of development gone wasted! Yes the STI is slightly more relaxing, but when someone's buying a raod going rally car, would they really mind a harsh ride? I dont think so!
thats just a few peoples opinion, u cant say one car is better than the other because someone else will say no this is better because that is there opinion! for me i prefer the sti and always will. i dont like the way the evo drives. it has alot more turbo lag and also is more uncomfy too.
Speaking as someone who just bought the 15 STI, I can tell you that their review of the handling is pretty harsh. There are 3 modes for handling, one which fights you (Auto - ) and provides a really stiff 1:1 with the road. Then there's one which doesn't ( Auto + ) which is a lot closer to the Evo X. Then theres Auto (neutral) is a mix of the both. It's good for DD and commuting. Personally, I love the stiff handling. It lets me know when the road shifts angel and I simply compensate
A friend of mine is trying to decide between a 2015 STI and an older hatchback...I sent him this vid to assist in deciding if the extra coin is worth it. Thanks! ...oh, and I told him to subscribe as well ;)
TheBlindMariah - The Evo used here is a GSR. And you probably already noticed that the guys didn't agree in the end. We also recommend our other EVOX reviews, as the guys have driven the car a few times in MR and GSR form and they both really like it (Todd especially). But, in this latest generation, Paul has become a big fan of the STI. Thanks for watching and Commenting!
I've owned the following in chronological order. 2004 STiEVO 82007 STiCurrently 2016 STi.. It's clear that I prefer the STi, and here's why; -Out of all the cars the 04 STi was definitely the quickest/Lightest it is prolly because it didn't come with a radio. - the 2016 STi is the best handling by far, next would be the EVO 8 - as far as looks, it's personal preference, I prefer the 04 STi over the EVO 7, once they changed the look over on the STi I hated the look and went EVO, now back in 2016 I love the new STi look ( I have the limited, wingless) - the biggest difference for me in these cars is the interior and build quality, the STi is just a better build vehicle inside, the EVO looks and feels cheap outside of the excellent seats.
Exactly why I bought a 2014 Evo X. Loaded, minus leather interior (hate leather). Coming out of a modified Mazdaspeed6 (turbo upgrade Front mount intercooler etc) the Evo (stock) is Slower... in a straight line... barely (than a mazdaspeed6 with 350awhp). The Evo does everything you want an AWD performance car to do. Gets off the line in a hurry, carves corners like no other, and EATS snow (with proper tires, not the stock Summer only tires). I've left STI's in the dust, and its only pushing around 330AWHP. The Evo is very tuner friendly. The engine is easier to work on, the ECU is simpler to tune, and supports map switching on the fly. The sti is a cushy "look at me" car that says "I kinda know stuff about cars... but I want a softer ride." The sti is what you drive to the track, the Evo is what you drive around the track. The 2015 STI is subaru trying to make an evolution... even in looks, but not quite getting the job done.
My 08 evo is a lemon. Got it from a dealer couple weeks ago and its overheating. Took it to Mitsubishi dealer and they cant figure it out. WHF? seriously gonna give this damn car back.
Why does eveyone hate the hatch? Cuz theres no big dumb rice spoiler? I own the hatch 2010 sti. And to me the sedan is ugly. It was an after thought the car was designed as a hatch if you look at the back end compared to the hatch it looks funny. Not porportioned properly. And the new sti in my mind is ugly trying to look like the evo. The hatch isnt 50/50 theres a control in the car(but the people who know it all dont drive the car) i can choose from 50/50 all the way to 20/80. I live in canada. And ill state that about 80% of newer sti's are the hatch. Im sorry but when it comes to a rally car hatch is better. Better top speed, better handling at higher speeds, and more aerodynamic. If you dont own the car or have never driven it,dont comment, unless you have your opion is pointless and meaningless cuz u dont know. Looks dont mean a car is crap. And besides fully customized the hatch is the best. No useless jap wing.
hamronD73 poor baby pissed off i called out the dumb spoiler and towards my bad grammer.i understand it was softer and meant to appeal to older people which it does. I see alot more of the hatch then any other model put together in a day. Like they said with its wing its a boy racer car. But dont feed me that downforce shit cuz the hatch has a wing that does the same it just doesnt stand 2 feet tall. The wing on the new gtr is a true downforce wing the sti and evo wings arent as good. And i dunno if u noticed but nobody is talking about the 04 to 07 models.this is about the 2010 and new model. trust me man i know alot and not just about the sti.if u wanna get technical on the best sti its the 22b...the legend. Sorry ima guy who hates big wings when u hear the words rice rocket u think loud muffler and big wing maybe a body kit. Opionions are like assholes....everyone has one. Next time tho try to stay on topic and not talk about older models when the disscussion is about newer models.Ive done circut racing in a 91 awd talon, ive done drifting in an 86 rx7, ive drag raced my old 500hp r32 gtr. And now i rally, auto cross and just drive my sti. You can take any model sti u want man but id still out drive you. Its not the car that makes it fast, its the driver. You might be good at reading and looking things up i on the net. But im out their pushing the limits of the car not the keyboard.
My 15 sti has 500 miles on it now and I could not be happier. I drove a evo x a few times before I got the sti and really they feel very much the same. Tho I will say EVO's feel better threw a s turn or something along those lines. However my buddy next door has a EVO X with some bolt ons: he told me he would rather have my car over his. But would keep his EVO if he could have another car to drive every day.
The newer models equipped with leather and the nicer Fosgate audio package is actually not bad at all. I have a 2011, I've swapped my GSR center console out for the 2015 piano black center console, and the doors out for the leather ones front and back. Super clean.
I've had an evo 2 STi's and now a 2017 Ford RS and I'm very happy with the new RS. I have a 2015 WRX for regular road trips and driving to work, I only drive the RS flat out all the time it's only for fun
Grant Manno Sorry, I somehow missed the "Upcoming" part of your comment. My bad, but I will stay with my 2005 sit, there are just so many aftermarket parts, and the thing sounds so damn good.
Grant Manno You are right, the Focus RS is AWD, but, it still has a Front Wheel Drive Platform just like the Golf R. yet, dont get me wrong, to most of people who doesn't go on a track, it doesnt make much difference tho.
you will never be forgotten lancer evolution.
Something about the EVO X in that white and black contrast is so beautiful..
Best color imo
All I can say is that I have no regrets buying my Evo X! EVO FTW
As a fellow WRX hatchback owner I always give a head nod to evos that past. I just love the body style and curves of the hatch. I do think the evo is a nice car, if built right. If I had a choice I would own both!
Same, btw nice hatch!
I totally agree. I am looking to get a WRX this spring and it will be my first Subaru. I cannot afford the STI nor even the EVO for that matter. I want something that looks great and is within my price range. I need an everyday driver and something that has a bit more punch than my current Mazda 3.
Mikatu01 I would not waste the 36K on that new STI. Now the new WRX is an awesome car especially for a daily driver.
Well, it was built right since then.
Have you driven a 2015 sti?
No, but I've owned 2 Evos and driven every other STi. Journslists were spot on about those. No reason why this one would be any different.
They definitely to need to bring the hatch back
In the press conference, Subaru said that sales figures favored the sedan (I think they said 3:1 but don't quote me).
Idk about that. From what I've heard the hatch made up about 50% of the sales.
Nobody wants the STI in a hatchabck, seriously.. Terrible idea whoever came up with that. Totally ruins the look the car has had since the 90's.
I own an 2014 STI, and I regret not buying an EvoX.
I brought the Final Edition Evo and will be buried in that car :)
K.I.S.S. Data Technologies that’s awesome I want a final edition are you going to switch out the seats? I really hate how Mitsubishi pulled the Recaro’s off the final edition
@@FifaMessi010 sure did, I love recaros!
Mitsubishi still handsome car till 2019
*Indeed!*
Till now, for me. but i respect ur opinion
@@confinez555 yeah until now maybe in 2030 still
SUBARU?! What the HELL happened to the beautiful frameless doors of the older models??????????
Or should I address this to Toyota?
12:04 not quite. in a chicane, not even necessarily a tight chicane, the AYC will fight you in the second corner because it doesn't act fast enough to stop sending power to the outer rear wheel when you go through the first corner (which becomes the inner rear wheel as you go through the second corner in the chicane). i haven't had any experience with any generation STI but i haven't heard of the same issue with them.
Paul: “I don’t know if any other cars could pull of wings like this.”
Honda: “Hold my beer.”
You guys rock. Always calling it like you see it and for good valid reasons. Nice to see that the 2010 WRX is still valid in your eyes even after driving so many other wonderful cars.
Both are amazing cars. I have an STi have driven an Evo both are incredible.
Love the review and the scenary. This is a golden episode for sure.
The evo looks soooo badass!!!
Hopefully Mitsu will build another eventually.
but for me, it's fortunate that Subaru will be alone in the market segment because the STI WILL be the class of its own.
MrGovenator1 The 2015 STi looks A LOT better in person, trust me. Photos have never done this car justice.
Fartybutt520 I saw one a week ago in world rally blue. Simply put, I really want one lol
MrGovenator1 I just bought one in that color.
That white evo looked beautiful with those black ties, great review. I'll probz end up buying an Evo X since the only subi i like is the Rsti.
Keep it up!
Mitsubishi needs to bring back the 3000 GT VR4. It was a beast in the 90's and I bet it would be a beast with modern technology applied.
sadly all they want to do is make economy cars from now on
The Evo X is still unrivaled. Prove me wrong.
I say drop the passenger seat down 3"-4" lower than the drivers side, just like a WRC race car where the co-driver sits low ;)
You guys are the only reviewers that arent annoying and its good to see honest opinions, got a sub from me.
We appreciate you saying that! We're very pleased you enjoyed both those films. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Having owned a 2013 sti and now a 2014 evo x I can say that the evo is miles better in terms of handling and tuning potential... The only think that really lets the evo x down is the 5 speed gearbox, I know it's tough as nails but almost painful to drive for the at least the first 10 and nowhere near as smooth as the Sti,
A very balanced, modest review of all models available on the market. Loved the realistic approaches of owning them.
I love that hatchback, i would never buy an sti that wasnt a hatch
You must love understeer aswell
Recently purchase a WRX STI 2016 and I have to admit this is the beast. Interior, exterior everything are just so modern. I been driving a Camaro SS 2011 for 4 years but now that I'm in love w this STI.
Great Review as always, guys! I'm always astonished how good the quality on your videos has become. They are very well worth the wait. Where did you film that? The scenery looks beautiful.
You guys make THE BEST car videos on all of UA-cam by a wide margin.
That's a huge compliment! Thanks for watching and enjoying what we do!
EverydayDriver Please consider putting out a DVD of your Velocity shows so us cord cutters can watch those too. Thanks for replying! :)
As mentioned in our TV announcement video - our TV episodes will be posted on the web a few weeks after they air. Glad to have your interest!
EverydayDriver My bad! Happy to hear! :D
SICEM_Rex gosh...that sucks...are you sure?
I'm not sure if there was that much of a demand. Even if you see a lot of us enthusiasts asking for an Evo, it's not like the car is selling like hotcakes. The truth is, enthusiasts are almost like a minority when it comes to car sales.
Well they brought it back... It's an electric crossover 🤙 e-evolution
Evo has the "torque vectoring" as well that's why they mention it.
I bought an Evo X (WW) because of Todd's review. I've owned it for a year and a half. Best car I've ever owned. Thank you Todd. Oh, I do over 2 hours a day highway travel with it. So fun. Yes, it's loud but life is short.
Old Sti my ass... let's a get a 2004 Sti in there, id love to see that comparison..
Finally! Thanks for this review, guys! I've owned 2 of the 3 cars here, and I'm convinced the 'Goldie Locks' is in the 2015 STI. Oh, yes. She will be mine.
Uhhhhhh. I will have a Evo or STi some day.
I still own a 2006 it was the last true rally Subie from the factory that's got good power. Be prepared to spend a lot of money to rebuild the Subie. The Evo still after a rebuild will make more power in the end & that engine is still one of the best to mod over the Subie.
Still
I have a 2015 Evo FE now.
Ed Brown
Great job guys, I enjoy your reviews. I like that all three of you take turns with all the cars, expands the perspectives, less bias.
Lol
Thank y'all for awesome videos, and if y'all can make this review come to life, I would be amazed and thankful :D KEEP IT UP
I like the new STI stance. I think the slightly higher ride height brings it back to its off road capable, go anywhere roots.
OMG i love the evo :D looks great & gonna get one soon,.
Thank you so much for doing this vid. I recently drove the 2015 and decided to get a lightly used 2014 hatch. i like the analog feel you talked about.
The Lancer Evolution X still the Best car Ever Out There simple the best of best!
EclipseDude4g Im a subie type of guy but greatest out there is the Supra - King of the Streetz
I miss mine everyday 😥
i own a 2004 STI with 40000 miles and is all stock.Very hard to find in original condition. Still a blast to drive!
Evo for life!
I just don't like how either of the STI's look! The evo is so much sleeker and better looking
Evo all day, except the STI always had my vote because of a 6th gear. If I didn't need to highway commute, I wouldn't even look at an STI over an Evo. Excellent comparison and I really like the older Sti.
Only 1 of these cars ever gets compared to a GTR. Nuff said
Sti and wrx are great cars but I will always choose a evo. I have been in love with this car from the first day I saw it and knew that it exist. Specially the all white and black one. It all comes down to if you are a evo fanboy or sti/ wrx.
Sounds like a couple subi fanboys. I don't own either. Just my opinion. Why bash an evo? It clearly outbeats sti in performance and upgrade costs.
The subby is just more loved and the Evo is ugly. Subby cuul and Evo schwuuuuuuul PC Master raze yee
***** People buying only Bmw or old muscle cars etc. its about love. Btw. evo is ugly better but ugly
Shame you guys couldn't find the 2011+ hatch that got suspension revisions.
Not at all. It would still lose.
The concept really was amazing.
and you are a bullshit because I am biased with the new 2015 STI
and you are also a bullshit because the 2015 is the best. Subaru, please do not listen to MetalsForBrunch and stick to something what you do best, and the 2015 STI LOOKS exactly like the 2014 WRX Concept Car.
Richard the new wrx looks like an evo lol
Richard Joash Tan You must be blind if you think the '15 sti looks like the wrx concept... Subaru hasn't released anything that looks anywhere near as good as the evo x... and I'm a proud owner of an '07 sti. I was planning on upgrading when I saw the concept, but after they released the production car... I have to say I died slightly on the inside.
One more time, just one more time. Stop. Stop talking about comfort in these cars and their interiors, wow. Everyone knows what these cars are and what they're for.
The evo x is going to go down as a legendary car like the supra
The interior of the Evo is ugly though
Huss Ali
That does not matter nobody buys an evo for the interior, it is for performance...
nothing can top the supra, sorry.
I really highly doubt that. Prior generations of the Evo have had much more credibility than the X has purely because of the advent of electronics; the one that's most likely to become a cult classic arguably already has: the VI.
RockyFTL you took it too far lol 😂
I love my 05 sti !
The EVO will be back. Just wait.
Great Vid. Been waiting for this one. I had really been wondering about the new STI.
I like how Subaru cant even match an Evo X which came out in early 2007 with a 2014 STI! 7 years of development gone wasted! Yes the STI is slightly more relaxing, but when someone's buying a raod going rally car, would they really mind a harsh ride? I dont think so!
Evo is a better track car. But not all enthusiast has time and money for track days. I would pick the 15 STI.
thats just a few peoples opinion, u cant say one car is better than the other because someone else will say no this is better because that is there opinion! for me i prefer the sti and always will. i dont like the way the evo drives. it has alot more turbo lag and also is more uncomfy too.
Dynamics is what these cars are all about dynamics and in that matter the evo beats the sti hands down!!
And I kind of agree with you+ShaDoWhUnTeR ellis
Thanks!
...oh, and I told him to subscribe as well ;)
Maybe Subaru will beat the outdated evo in 2018. Lmao! Evo still outperforms the sti. Crazy
Joe Momma not bashing but most EVOS are heavily modded so thats why they smoke subies. but they are also great stock too
Great review guys.
that a evo GSR? or MR? and did Subaru pay you guys for this?? lol ;)
It's clear that I prefer the STi, and here's why;
-Out of all the cars the 04 STi was definitely the quickest/Lightest it is prolly because it didn't come with a radio.
- the 2016 STi is the best handling by far, next would be the EVO 8
- as far as looks, it's personal preference, I prefer the 04 STi over the EVO 7, once they changed the look over on the STi I hated the look and went EVO, now back in 2016 I love the new STi look ( I have the limited, wingless)
- the biggest difference for me in these cars is the interior and build quality, the STi is just a better build vehicle inside, the EVO looks and feels cheap outside of the excellent seats.
Give me a break! Who the fuck wants a damn station wagon? Hats off to the gorgeous obnoxious wing on the WRX
people who travel with a group often and need the space for luggage
lintels123 Most notably "soccer moms" or milfs shall I say.
You should really change your voting stuff, maybe instead of 4 you should use 5 :p
My 08 evo is a lemon. Got it from a dealer couple weeks ago and its overheating. Took it to Mitsubishi dealer and they cant figure it out. WHF? seriously gonna give this damn car back.
RIP Evos
Magnificent film enjoyed every minute of it.
No useless jap wing.
alright sarah palin
hamronD73 poor baby pissed off i called out the dumb spoiler and towards my bad grammer.i understand it was softer and meant to appeal to older people which it does. But im out their pushing the limits of the car not the keyboard.
hamronD73 I agree....ask a domestic fanboy about a 4' tall plymouth superbird wing and see what their opinion is...Dumb USA wing? Lol
Toyota Echo Sedan.
cuz its ugly as fuck
Thats the reason i went for one of the later 2.0l subarus. Having the boost come on incredibly strong is part of the fun!
wow that awkward face to face talk at the end
This whole video seemed extremely staged and very awkward.
this is the best review for these cars out there.
Mitsubishi Evo all day ;)
subbed, love the dual opinions, ordered the 2016 sti limited about a month ago. watched this video several times.
You guys are nuts, the 15 STi looks a thousand times better than the previous model.
+Dave Thomas uh no...
It looks like a carolla.
I agree, after 2007, the imprezas looked like shit, so ugly. until the new ones
+Ethan Shrago Toyota bought Subaru by 16.1% so yeh
.......*worse*
Great review I own a 2012 WRX and you have added to my appreciation of that car.
The evo is way better then those stis
@YouknowhatFUK Hopefully one day Mitsubishi will revive those Evos.
Fairly new to the scene.. but I'm loving every waking moment with my subie
Thumbs up if you're team Evo!
5 thumbs up in 2 yrs looks like the subie won
Two Legged Cat33 20*
it is good to see the kids with helmets can still sort themselves
My 15 sti has 500 miles on it now and I could not be happier. I drove a evo x a few times before I got the sti and really they feel very much the same. Tho I will say EVO's feel better threw a s turn or something along those lines.
However my buddy next door has a EVO X with some bolt ons: he told me he would rather have my car over his. But would keep his EVO if he could have another car to drive every day.
The Evo looks so freaking cheap in the interior.
The upcoming Focus RS is going to pretty much bury all of these cars and shut down the hot hatch market. Goodnight sweet STI
Well, here's hoping ;)
Not a chance, and the reason is simple" front wheel drive is shit"
mrsuperbuckets the new focus rs is awd...
Really great editing. Awesome video.
