  • Flow studies by Vincent Cichowicz in a pattern developed by Reinhold Friedrich. Same concept as Cichowicz, but covering six octaves in 5-8 minutes, so you get to the extremes of range much more quickly than if playing through each line as originally written.
I learned this from a video Mr. Friedrich made for a website featuring masterclasses and lessons from world-class artists.
It took me about three years to be able to play this exercise in full, and he stills adds one more line up to Double High A on Bb trumpet that I have only managed to squeak out a few times.
His video available for purchase here:
    www.playwithap...
The video of his complete warmup routine is worth every penny.
    Doug Reneau, trumpet
    Equipment Used:
    Bach Strad 37 Bb
    Monette B2.5S3 Classic Resonance Mouthpiece

I wonder if the composer of The Godfather theme got the idea for his melody from these exercises?

Ha!! That’s hilarious. Well, Cichowicz is certainly one of the godfathers of modern trumpet teaching! 😂

Doug won't tell you this, but he could make a gorgeous sound on any mouthpiece and any instrument! That's just the way he plays - beautifully.
