Great guide. Transport: The Underground (Tube) trains do not have aircon (a few newer trains may do) and are usually hot, even in Winter, and are unbearably hot in the Summer. They are often old and grubby. Walkways and platforms are also hot and stuffy with lots of stairs and escalators. Buses have a regular replacement program so they are modern and clean with good ventilation and disabled access. They have route information screens with voice guidance. Buses can be slower than the Tube, at peak times, but they are usually less crowded because they are very frequent. Also, you can see the city from the bus and journeys cost less than the Tube.
I recommend staying in South Kensington specifically near the Gloucester tube - most of those hotels are within 100 meters of the tube, it's on 3 lines (circle, Piccadilly & 1 other that links easy to every major attractions with those lines), can catch the bus or walk to the museums, Harrods & Kensington Palace, are near a Waitrose & Tesco for groceries and a laundry mat. It's also far cheaper then the hotels near Westminster and Covent Garden but not that far - some of London's hotels are crazy expensive and I've stayed in 5* elsewhere. And don't forget to cash in the remaining value on your Oyster Card before you leave. London pass is also such bad value as you won't get to the amount of attractions to make it worth a day pass - check if it makes sense for you!

there are so many great museums that are free. British, Natural History, National Gallery, Victoria and Albert and Science. London also has more parks per mile that any other city in the world.
Bucking Palace is not open all year. The Queen goes to Balmoral in July till October. So it's open during that time. Keep your eye on your belongings, especially your phone and money. Travel outside of rush hour, 7 am till 9.30 and 4pm until 7pm. Avoid going in the summer as it's full of tourists and very hot weather. Travel on the tube, not the buses. Taxis are expensive. Stay at a hotel near a tube station. Restaurants are expensive. Use take always like Macdonalds and KFC. The Elizabeth tower is currently undergoing repairs and Big Ben won't be striking again until August 2021. I used to live in London and I have been there many times as I live in Yeovil England.

London can be expensive but your exactly right if you go on trip advisor you can find some very nice restaurants that are very reasonable in ptice,the same with hotels. Ive done all of the Free museums and the Victoria And Albert museum is my favorite one.The free art galleries are great for art lovers and you will find many paintings from a lot of the masters in them
I honestly find it interesting how other people in different countries find London so interesting- I usually go to London like once or twice a month (obviously not right now) but tbh I really don’t like going😂😂 I find it pretty boring aside from the shops, but it’s definitely a tourist attraction for people who enjoy sight seeing! National Express is a fantastic service that we have used on several trips from OZ. Much cheaper than trains and you get help with your luggage, If you're old (like me) there is a cheaper fare as well, NE serves most places and I highly recommend them, cheers from OZ.
I've lived in England for over 30 years and I've only been to (greater) London twice (only in the airport). I might go one day. Manchester, Newcastle and Liverpool are my favourite places to visit. Cheaper too.
From Heathrow and Gatwick to central London, you can take a regular train - Heathrow Connect from Heathrow or almost any train heading North from Gatwick. The Heathrow and Gatwick Express services are faster but very expensive.

Btw there’s literally no pickpocketing in London it’s more muggings and violent crime but that only happens in the rougher areas (same as other big cities)
I don't live in London lol. But I do live in the UK a couple of counties over in the Cotswolds. I have visited London a few times before and there are some things you should be aware of: If you are driving there is nowhere to park! If you find somewhere to do so, it is extremely expensive and some hotels don't have carparks. When booking a hotel make sure it has access to the Tube and always check the reviews. If you are driving I would seriously reconsider! In touristy areas expect everything to be really overpriced. I visited Camden Market and a London hoodie was nearly £30 (around $40) leave touristy areas and goods are fairly priced. Be aware of dangers. Knife crime has risen in the last few months across the whole of the UK especially in cities. Don't make yourself a target: don't have your phone in your back pocket, don't speak loudly specifying that you are a tourist etc. Terror attacks aren't impossible. Keep yourself safe and dial 999 for emergencies and 101 for things that don't need immediate attention i.e situations where you are not in danger. The weather is very unpredictable, bring a coat no matter what time of year it is and plan trips according to the weather. Enjoy your stay - remember these things are extremely unlikely and only for you to be aware of. I'm sure anyone would be happy to help you or give you advice whilst you're staying. :)

If you want a cheap place (but still very good quality) to stay in London try the premier inn in Kenton that’s where I usually stay your literally right beside the bakerloo line that will take you straight to Oxford Circus where you can explore and get tourist busses ect

Also Stratford for the Orbital, Canary Wharf for skyscrapers and some shopping, Kew for the gardens and a couple of interesting smaller museums,. Keep an eye out for blue plaques marking homes of famous people. If you have a longer stay the check the National Trust and English Heritage websites for places in and near London.
"Avoid less touristy areas for safety" - lol. The vast majority of Londoners live and work in non touristy areas! For a city of its size, London is a relatively safe. Of course there are some dangerous areas but visitors are not likely to go there as there's nothing to see. The reason why tipping in restaurants is not mandatory is because the vast majority (probably 80/90%) add a service charge to the bill, usually around 10/12.5%. Avoid very cheap eats in London because they are cheap for a reason. It's an expensive city and if you come with a very low budget you won't get anywhere near the best experience out of your visit.
I haven been to london couple of times and i feel best time to visit UK during summer is june to september, best way for traveling is under ground aka tubes make sure u should have a Oster card, can discover free museums, free sky garden it's also LONDON'S HIGHEST PUBLIC GARDEN, for accommodation if solo traveler hostel is the best way otherwise with fam can go with Air bnb, food isn't cheap anywhere accept one place called whitechaple..one tourist place is also nearby called brick lane famous for some best walls artwork and for pubs and @10:55 that view/place is greenwich university.

The famous landmark in london is the Elizabeth tower currently undergoing renovation, it will reopen to public around 2021. I will visit london only after the tower reopens back.
Here are some more advices. For a comfortable stay, avoid the "charming" hotels in bayswater! There are nicer hotels for not that much more money. Check what ratings other travellers gives the hotels. And getting around is sometimes faster if you walk, for example between leiceter and covent garden. Don't be afraid to explore areas where you haven't been before. Last time i stayed in islington, which have a small-town feel to it but with lots of chops and pubs.
Even if your not from london, tell the cab taxi driver to 'take us the right way' because some taxi drivers will drive around to make the fee more and pretend you love in London or they will mess you around

im guessing you didnt go due to covid, but trust me its extremely easy to get around london if you use google maps, since there are bus stops and train stations everywhere, so you dont need to walk much
If you don't want to take public transport to get around - don't get tempted by black cabs, they are wildly expensive. Download either Bolt or Kapten apps for reasonably priced taxis/cabs journeys. Uber is being phased out (as far as I'm aware) so wouldn't recommend them. Bolt and Kapten are mostly cheaper than them anyway. If you are travelling on the underground during rush hour - my best advice would be to... Walk. Fast. It's dog eat dog down there. On the escalators, stand on the right and never on the left. Just, trust me here. Also wait for people to get off the train before trying to get on. Pushing to get on while people are getting off is a surefire way to p*ss people off. Queues are also... A way of life here. Again, jumping queues is self sacrificial. The random hot dog stands you'll see dotted around are mostly gross and unhygienic. I've seen one rinse off tupperware in the Thames. Buy yourself a bum bag (fanny pack, whatever the US calls it) cause the pickpockets are wild. Other than that... Lovely bunch of people. Mostly.

Also Stratford for the Orbital, Canary Wharf for skyscrapers and some shopping, Kew for the gardens and a couple of interesting smaller museums,. Keep an eye out for blue plaques marking homes of famous people. If you have a longer stay the check the National Trust and English Heritage websites for places in and near London.

"Avoid less touristy areas for safety" - lol. The vast majority of Londoners live and work in non touristy areas! For a city of its size, London is a relatively safe. Of course there are some dangerous areas but visitors are not likely to go there as there's nothing to see. The reason why tipping in restaurants is not mandatory is because the vast majority (probably 80/90%) add a service charge to the bill, usually around 10/12.5%. Avoid very cheap eats in London because they are cheap for a reason. It's an expensive city and if you come with a very low budget you won't get anywhere near the best experience out of your visit.
It's a pretty shit city to be a minority in.....

I haven been to london couple of times and i feel best time to visit UK during summer is june to september, best way for traveling is under ground aka tubes make sure u should have a Oster card, can discover free museums, free sky garden it's also LONDON'S HIGHEST PUBLIC GARDEN, for accommodation if solo traveler hostel is the best way otherwise with fam can go with Air bnb, food isn't cheap anywhere accept one place called whitechaple..one tourist place is also nearby called brick lane famous for some best walls artwork and for pubs and @10:55 that view/place is greenwich university.

The famous landmark in london is the Elizabeth tower currently undergoing renovation, it will reopen to public around 2021. I will visit london only after the tower reopens back.

Best tips I can give as a native londoner is mind your business AND avoid buses at night
Here are some more advices. For a comfortable stay, avoid the "charming" hotels in bayswater! There are nicer hotels for not that much more money. Check what ratings other travellers gives the hotels. And getting around is sometimes faster if you walk, for example between leiceter and covent garden. Don't be afraid to explore areas where you haven't been before. Last time i stayed in islington, which have a small-town feel to it but with lots of chops and pubs.
magnus nilsson Leicester Square, not leiceter - where there is a street, road, square or similar in the name then always include it.

Even if your not from london, tell the cab taxi driver to 'take us the right way' because some taxi drivers will drive around to make the fee more and pretend you love in London or they will mess you around

U be ok, just remember on the Underground. Central Line,District, Bakerloo, Hamersmith n City. If U Use those. They will get U ALL Round Central London. Their is ALWAYS Manned Staffing points ON ALL Train, Underground Stns. And if U ever Lost. Always Ask a Police Officer. And Enjoy. 🌈

im guessing you didnt go due to covid, but trust me its extremely easy to get around london if you use google maps, since there are bus stops and train stations everywhere, so you dont need to walk much
If your not sure then ask locals, bus drivers or train station staff.

If you don't want to take public transport to get around - don't get tempted by black cabs, they are wildly expensive. Download either Bolt or Kapten apps for reasonably priced taxis/cabs journeys.
Uber is being phased out (as far as I'm aware) so wouldn't recommend them. Bolt and Kapten are mostly cheaper than them anyway.
If you are travelling on the underground during rush hour - my best advice would be to... Walk. Fast. It's dog eat dog down there. On the escalators, stand on the right and never on the left. Just, trust me here.
Also wait for people to get off the train before trying to get on. Pushing to get on while people are getting off is a surefire way to p*ss people off.
Queues are also... A way of life here. Again, jumping queues is self sacrificial.
The random hot dog stands you'll see dotted around are mostly gross and unhygienic. I've seen one rinse off tupperware in the Thames.
Buy yourself a bum bag (fanny pack, whatever the US calls it) cause the pickpockets are wild.
Other than that... Lovely bunch of people. Mostly.
