Londoner here living in the US. I visit each year with friends and family and usually spend 2-3 days in London doing the tourist thing. This video is spot on and covers all the basics. A couple of things I would suggest is approaching Buckingham Palace from Trafalgar Square by walking down the Mall towards the palace - rather than walking away from it. It really is impactful for first timers. I'd also add a quick trip to Harrods in Knightsbridge, and the various museums nearby. Greenwich is a must-visit and can be done on the same day you go to Borough Market. It's where the Prime Meridian is located a well as beautiful parks and the Observatory. All-in-all, great job. We're doing Sky Garden for the first time in a few weeks.
Yay thanks so much! Glad you agree! If people have more time I’d definitely recommend a south Kensington day for museums and Harrods and then a Greenwich day (cuz I feel like it’s so far to try and squeeze in on 1 of these days!) but both are amazing you are correct! Enjoy your next trip to London :)

As an American that’s been to central London multiple times I always tell American tourist do not take the tube. People don’t realize it depending on the time of the day the tube has off peak and peak times. Take the buses it’s cheaper. Unless your going to a far out destination with in zone 1-6 don’t. Avoid taking the Elizabeth line because it’s not part of the underground. There are ways to get from Heathrow to Central London to zone one and two without paying an arm and a leg.
Hmm interesting! The buses are cheaper yes, but the tube is so much faster. So it’s just depends what you value more! Once you’re in central London you can basically walk to all the sites, so it’s not a huge deal. You are right about the Elizabeth line though! A lot more expensive than the tube (esp getting to Heathrow). I always just use the Piccadilly line :)
I’m with you. There’s so much to see of London when you’re above ground! Unless of course, you have a bit of a way to go and/or need to get to an event quickly, but it is so much fun to watch the sights and sounds of London from street level. The Citymapper is sensational in allowing you to plan, but once in a while if you see something interesting, you can hop off and have a look right there (as someone who loves Fish N Chips, I found one or two off the beaten path this way that were much cheaper and ‘more authentic’ than the touristy ones). Great video, thank you!
I love your helpful tips and information! You are so generous with your itineraries and suggestions. I'm planning my first trip to England, and have watched a lot of vlogs, but I really enjoy yours. I'd also be interested if you do any other day trips. Have you thought about taking a trip to Yorkshire?
Aw thanks so much, I’m so glad you found it helpful! Some of the day trips I have so far are Oxford, Bath, & Brighton. This Sunday will be a video on a day trip to hike the Seven Sisters white cliffs! I haven’t been to Yorkshire yet :( but hoping to do more UK travel this summer! So stay tuned for more day and weekend trips from London :)
You didn’t mention the theatre! I always recommend seeing a show in London at one of the many theatres in the West End (which is apparently half the price of broadway shows, check online to see what’s good and what’s not) or if you’re into Shakespeare you’ve got to go to Shakespeare’s Globe on the south bank near the Tate modern. It’s a rebuild of the seventeenth century original theatre so there’s seating OR there’s the option to stand and watch the show from ‘the yard’ as people did back in the day. The theatre company who run the globe are fantastic. It’s weather dependent as it’s open air, so if I starts raining and you’re in the yard you get wet, but the cast often interact with and sometimes walk through the people on the yard. Also not used in the winter (they have a smaller indoor space that still has shows though).
Thanks for sharing! It just depends on your interests - I’m not a huge theatre person, nor is anyone who has come to visit me so far. But if you are, this is definitely one of the best places in the world to see a show!
You definitely need to see a theatre show in the evening and remember there are theatres all round London, not just the West End (e.g. The Old Vic at Waterloo, Menier Chocolate Factory near Borough Market and Royal Court, Chelsea to name just a few. A concert at the Royal Albert Hall is a must. Also there are 3 fantastic free museums in South Kensington: The V&A, Natural History Musem and the Science Museum.

The daily cap for zones 1-2 is £8.50 or zones 1-3 is £10, so it depends how far your hotel is and where your traveling There’s no zone limit for an Oyster card or if you use tap-to-pay (like your credit card or Apple Pay), it just charges you based on how many zones you travel
