i have no idea how p.c. Riley would bring together the two points between how funny it is and how offensive and completely not ok it is at the same time. that boy will be doing moral backflips to explain how it was ok to laugh. it’s like bro. jokes are jokes. even if they’re offensive, it’s still not serious, it’s why they’re called jokes. that being said i’d love a breakdown
@@Sethclement96 I don't think it would take too much justifying, mostly because the joke in Tropic Thunder is the absurdity of doing blackface at that point in time. Like in the Simple Jack parts and the RDJ stuff, the butt of the joke is the shallowness of the characters to not even understand what they're doing is offensive or wrong. You're laughing at the character, not at the idea of black people in general.
@@gabecastillo1634 Not really. Like the joke of Norbit (2007) is just laughing at the idea of a woman being fat. The joke is just that she's fat. It'd be like if the joke of RDJ's character was that black people were some kind of stereotype. Which isn't what Tropic Thunder's doing, it's making fun of 'Kirk Lazarus' for being vapid and stupid enough to try and pull blackface off.
@@BogotaLineman if everyone felt this way we’d probably still have minstrel shows. I’m glad society’s moral standards have evolved throughout the years.
The bar scene with the Globo Gym team intro is the best scene in the movie. I love when White throws a ball and just annihilates an innocent bar patron in the corner lmao edit: it’s actually Fran Stalinovskovichdaviddivichski that throws it after Blazer balls White
Holy shit y'all pissed people off with this one. The comment section has never felt more like a Ben Shapiro clip lol Anyways y'all should do Shark Tale
When graydon said “this and Anchorman” I felt that. I’ve probably seen Anchorman 100 times but when he said that I realized this probably comes in second at like, maybe 8.
Love when you guys post this series. I go back and watch movies I grew up with, and then watch the video and it’s fun to include my own little inner commentary ❤
You guys need to do 'The Hot Chick', starring Rob Schneider & Rachel McAdams. I think it's absolutely perfect for this. Holds up faaaar better than you'd ever expect. Still filled with things to groan about, and still ultimately a Schneider film, but without question his best leading film.
I'd love to see you guys revisit "The Hangover" - watched it recently for the first time in nearly 15 years and was pleasantly surprised with how well it holds up compared to a lot of comedies from that era.
Somehow this negative review makes me want to rewatch this movie. Btw you guys should do Talladega Nights. One of the greatest sports comedies and just straight up one of the best sports movies ever made. If you ain’t first, you’re last!
I’d love to see you guys do Grandmas Boy next, it’s the same era as most of the movies you’ve done and it’s such a hilarious movie I know yall would love lol
Every version of the film i’ve ever seen, Patches says “poopy flavoured lollipop” also when they’re announcing the Dodgeball tournament they say that ESPN The Ocho has been around since 1999… so I don’t think this film is set in 1993
I feel like those writers put racist jokes in because they find them funny, just like yall do sometimes esp Grayson and dignan, not because they are racist
@ I mean, yeah? it’s just funny to me how they say those jokes are horrible and it couldn’t be made today when they literally make racist jokes all the time lol
@@AidenAlien just laughing at a stereotype is different then playing on the border graydon does lmao. It’s very different levels of effort. Anti immigration arrogant American is not the same as just low hanging fruit. It’s not a crime to make those jokes either they just don’t find them funny.
Haven’t seen the movie in a bop so idk. We’ve definitely seen Riley laugh at a racist or anti immigrant joke before combatting it though and some of them have 100% been low hanging fruit
@@nyxx7813when diggy does his anti-immigration bit, he even goes a step further in subversion by intentionally not going for the low hanging fruit of like haitian or mexican immigrants. the whole “albanians are stealing twitch streaming jobs” bit is so outlandish it forces you to reckon with the fact that anybody railing against immigrants “stealing” jobs sounds as stupid as that. personally i still feel like it’s a tough line to toe, like the whole idea of satire needing to be clear in its purpose lest it be mistaken for that which it aims to poke fun at still applies here. i’m able to discern the satire but i’m not 100% confident someone who already holds bigoted beliefs about immigrants would. but it’s obvious that even in this stupid fucking albanians bit they’re putting in way more effort to subvert the trope than people who just regurgitate stereotypes and expect their audience to find that funny.
Grandma's Boy & Tenacious D: Pick of Destiny would also be great somewhat dicey comedy cult classic picks for this series. I think Grandma's Boy definitely aged worse between the two though on multiple fronts lol
I agree .. I dont think id laugh at that movie anymore .but I never thought this movie was funny ...just thought it was fun ..but I agree ..it's not funny
They should play this like a bracket where they play the entire movie before the review so we remember the movie better.
I think they should chain up dignan and make him recite the entire screenplay from memory
I’m drunk smoking a cigarette and have decided you are my favorite UA-cam channel
awesome
fuck yeah
welcome brother elliot, we've been waiting for you 🙏
Thanks man I appreciate it
Love this!!! Love you
How did "nobody makes me bleed my own blood " not get mentioned in best lines
was just thinking that. also “i’m white, w-h-i-t…… e” idk why that one kills me
The entire best lines segment could just be whites entire script.

On to something here. Didn’t like it as a kid but I love it as an adult. Thought it was too dumb. Works for me great now

Riley always be acting like he’s never seen anything
remember the five d's of dodgeball: dodge, duck, dip, dive and dignan 🤾♂️
Have you done Legally Blonde yet? I've never watched it, but I've heard that it holds up surprisingly well compared to similar comedies of the time.
Legally blonde is the best! Such a good suggestion too. Even my lawyer mom who hates all law movies/shows has always loved it!
Legally Blonde is a GREAT classic comedy for anyone to watch
Lance Armstrong scene is incredible, I would argue his controversy makes the whole thing even funnier
Thank god Graydon and I are dumb enough to enjoy a light-hearted silly comedy! Sorry about that Riley, hopefully someday I’ll be as smart as you.
