in prime 3, at one point you can scan various planets including Talon IV and Aether. Talon IV is recovering from the Phazon infestation and the Luminoth are steadily rebuilding their lost civilization.
It should be added that the Federation was helping the Luminoth by both protecting and aiding them rid the last of the Space Pirates on Aether after Samus left as well! They also went to Talon IV to deter anymore Space Pirates from returning back to the planet!!
Tallon IV was a ticking time bomb with its Leviathan. The planet was being corrupted by Phazon for over 50 years now, which is a LOT despite the Chozo slowing down the corruptive effect. By the time Metroid Prime takes place, Tallon IV's Leviathan was gonna kill all life in *25 years.*
@@Chaos89P Remember that the idea of Phaaze first appeared in Prime 3, so we can safely assume that Talon 4 would have become a Wasteland, just as Aether would have become a world consumed by darkness.
I love Prime 2's story the most in the whole series, because to me it's just Samus at her most... Samus. She completed her mission minutes into the adventure when she found the squad wiped out, but when she hears U-Mos's tale, she gets to work without a moment's delay. She's fighting a one woman war against horrible abominations that defy logic and isn't even getting paid for it, but that doesn't stop her from answering a plea for help.
And what helps this story all the more its the atmosphere every world build upon the story of the Luminoth before they were attacked by the Ing, this feeling maybe hitting a soft spot on Samus after the Chozo ruins in Tallon IV, thus maybe part of the reason she jumps head first to help U-Mos
@@JohnSmith-xf1zu Althought I had the same thought, retiring to her ship and waiting or staying with U Mos is still a better idea than jumping into the enemy's stronghold alone. She still had the choice to not help but she did.
well... i fucking love metroid's motion controls... they just go so smooth. you lock an enemy, you still move you aim around. managing multiple enemies at once is rather comfortable that way. special enemies with multiple target's on their bodies add a bit of depth to the initial gameplay... those are just the most enjoyable motion controls i've seen. aiming with a wii mote tend to be a bit more shaky, but you have at the same time the speed of a mouse and the absolute positioning of a stick (i mean that when you point the wiimote at the center, the cursor is in the center, while if you just move your mouse at the center of your mouse pad, your cursor can be anywhere).
Me too, it's also my favorite of the trilogy. About the motion controls, I think they're so organic and easy to use, I have no problem at all and love using them.
I know the beam ammo system gets a ton of flak from the fans, but it makes sense in-universe. The Luminoth are stated to have "Energy manipulation capabilities on par with the Chozo". That being said, the Luminoth and the Chozo could easily have different types of energy they are able to manipulate. Therefore it isn't unreasonable to believe that the Chozo arm cannon on her suit would be unable to efficiently power the Luminoth designed weaponry, hence why when out of ammo you need to charge the beam for a normal shot: The arm cannon CAN make this energy, but it's not designed for it. This would also explain why the Chozo Varia suit is able to be upgraded into the Luminoth designed Dark Suit. Luminoth and Chozo technology is overall very similar, hence why the upgrades work albeit not in an optimized fashion.
That makes a lot of sense, I completely agree with your idea. I always took as the Power Suit being a bit 'mystical' being able to adapt (to some degree) to technology or weaponry that is not Chozo made, all in the efforts of keeping its user alive. Your idea could also help explain why the Dark Suit doesn't fully protect Samus from Dark Aether (from a story's point) and requires her to fully merge the Chozo and Luminoth tech in perfect harmony to create the Light Suit
Or the dark suit is mere insulation from the toxic atmosphere of the dark world, but the light suit is literally made from the life-giving energy called the “Light of Aether” which is described in game as strong enough to not only allow life on a rogue planet, but allow it to thrive
Another point to take into consideration is that the chozo met the luminoth so it's not out of place that they exchanged some ideas or technologies it could also explain why the screw attack is so different in echoes than other games. Both the echos and prime 3 screw attacks (the one you get on bryyo) are copies or incomplete versions of the chozo technology
Another thing that you could touch on is the fact that the space pirates on Aether are not the main enemy but interlopers on a war ravaged planet who also fall victim to the Ing's will. It's actually ironic that a species who desired to control other creatures and use them as weapons are now having the tables turned on them by the Ing. And then you have Dark Samus, a chaotic and neutral character, who will destroy any party that gets in the way of her phazon energy source.
Actually, now that I think about it, Dark Samus's selfish and instinctual drive to consume phazon and kill anything that gets in her way directly contrasts the selfless and caring Samus. I never realized that til now.
I love how the Metroid series mixes mystical elements with sci-fi. It's a very rich world. And personally, Echoes is my favorite out of the trilogy. Great video!
The mixture between sic-fi and fantasy/mystical elements is one of the things that makes Metroid so unique. At difference from many other games (IMO) Metroid manages to blend both so seamlessly so that one does not clash with the other, but they both become one in the same and it feels very natural
Echoes is my favorite as well, hope I can perhaps update this video to fix the audio issue. I am bit of a perfectionist with my edits, I guess its my pet peeve
Its a small detail I have pondered over so many times, and I think I could make a whole video behind (the same imagery happens in Corruption between Samus and Molgera on Bryyo)
The Orpheon I think you mixed up the names of Molgera from Zelda Wind Waker, and Mogenar from Metroid Prime3: Corruption. Nonetheless, I don’t either bossfight symbolizes which advanced species is superior. Both are merely a creation made by their respective species for the purpose of participating in battle of some degree. Not to mention that judging the worth of an entire species off a single boss fight seems a tad shallow to me. And, since when was it ever a competition anyway? That hardly seems fair seeing as how the Chozo are known to give their stuff away, one example of such being the statues in frozen Bryyo
Zackonark except that it certainly DOES symbolize exactly this in MP2.. Quadraxis was their ultimate weapon and last ditch effort to take out the ing. So it is definitely the best tech of both species going at it. Its also why the screw attack was locked away and hidden even more from the ing because the luminoth tech wasnt advanced enough to integrate it into their own yet and also fear of it falling into the ing’s hand. This is completely obvious in the game.. I dont see how you can just brush over it as nothing but hey.. opinions. It doesnt have anything to do with judging the entire species ‘worth’ off of one piece of tech either. It merely represents the current advancement in tech before they both met their end. Both species respected each other and learned from each other. Just because the chozo were slightly more advanced doesnt mean the luminoth were worthless.. i think this topic flies over your head kid.
I think it makes sense that samus won because the chozo are hundreds or even thousands years older than the luminoth, and thus have more experience. That is, until they died out (the good chozo at least).
So glad I'm not the only one who considers Prime 2 their favourite game of the whole franchise. For me Metroid always was about the experience of exploring an alien world and uncovering all its secrets, and there's no planet more alien in the franchise than Aether.
Not to mention since the game kinda shows you the little significance with the GF (because they are all dead) and the Pirates (because of Ings) it really makes it feel alien when compared to the other games
To me, my favourite before Dread (since that stole the top spot) had to be Fusion, honestly. It may be much more linear than other titles, but I think it still holds up pretty well, all things considered. Plus, a big moment for me was when I was playing it the first time, getting that secret Shinespark sequence dialogue (it took me like an hour to get it right, mostly found it by accident and refused to move on until I succeeded), and that was how I discovered sequence-breaking in Metroid.
Prime 2 has some of the best visual story telling in video games period, yet interviews with Retro staff say that this game was a blur and was practically rushed out to meet the deadline of a 2 year development cycle, which shows since Prime 2 is also the glitchiest out of the Trilogy (in terms of getting out of bounds anyway).
Sometimes the best out of developers/artists comes from being pressured by deadlines. The pressure forces them into a quicker creative state to meat with the demand. I thinks its a good comparison with some developers today who get a much smoother/calmer development process
The Clorox Addict well this is the Majora's Mask of the Prime series, in some way. Tweaked engine, same platform, which helps speed up a lot of development internally.
Yes, the Torvus Catacombs (also known as Lower Torvus) is a great remix of Super Metroid's Lower/Red Brinstar. I was referring to the music that plays on the surface level Torvus in the video, just to clear any confusion.
In the light version of the room where u fight quadraxis you can see a tease of it. Big metal joints, legs and so on. I remember i thought as a child, man there had to be ass gigant robot here its a shame its allready destroyed. for my luck when i finally made it to the boss fight against quadraxis my jaw just dropped.
Call me cynical, but I kinda figured Samus initially only stuck around to investigate what was going down on Aether because she didn’t really have anything better to do, what with her ship being damaged and needing time to repair itself and all. I mean. She found the Federation troopers and found out what happened to them like she was supposed to, but she achieved that in the span of like ten minutes and still didn’t have a ride home yet. She found a distress beacon, but all that atmospheric interference made it pretty much useless. Now what? Might as well do what Samus does best and wander around shooting local wildlife? Sure, why not. And while she’s at it, might as well try to recover her powerups that got stolen from her by those weird spider aliens. Plus she later finds the Space Pirates the Feds were originally after. And as everyone knows, those guys are to be handled with extreme prejudice more-or-less on principle. Not that anything you said in your analysis was _wrong,_ mind you. After all, _Prime 1_ started out in much the same way; what began as simply trying to catch Ridley ended up with Samus looking deeper into what happened to the planet and trying to reverse the damage, so she must have started caring about what happens on Tallon IV at some point. The main difference between what happened there and what happened on Aether (besides Aether’s Phazon meteor somehow spawning a lethal alternate dimension, which by the way is still something I don’t completely understand) is that, whereas the Tallon Chozo were long dead by the time Samus arrived, there’s still time for her to save the Luminoth. After living through not one but _two_ holocausts (i.e., the raid on K-2L and the Pirate occupation of Zebes), preempting a species’ extinction is something Samus hasn’t had the chance to do yet at this point in her life, so I can very easily imagine why she’d come to care about the Luminoth’s survival and want to save them or even just help them in any way she can. Plus, now that I think about it, I don’t believe she’s ever experienced any more trying trials than those she faced on Aether - for starters, traveling through an area where _the very _*_air_* was _literally killing her_ despite her Varia Suit. But for the sake of the Luminoth she’s braving it anyway. And steadily becoming just as badass as the fallen Luminoth warriors. And that little wave at the end tho. “All in a day’s work, giant moth people.” Then again, it’s been a very long time since I’ve played these games.
That's what makes the story so good, you're able to interpret Samus' action in several different ways. Was it to save a dying race on the verge of extinction or was it because she couldn't get a ride off the planet? You get to decide.
its been along time since you posted but the reason the leviathan created an alternate dimension was because if an adverse reaction with the planets energy. Aether is actually a rogue planet (one that doesn't have a solar system or sun) and thus is kept alive by the planetary energy ball that you see in the temples
It could have had, and to a great degree. For me the main problem that held itself back was that it tried to touch on many subjects for its story (Adam/Baby/Deleter/Melissa/Ridley/etc) if it had a main focus to the plot then I think it could have developed to become something as interesting
Metroid Prime 2 was a masterpiece all its own. The dynamics, the setting, the battle of light vs dark. Few titles pushed these types of buttons, unless they were RPGs. But an action adventure / platformer definitely pushed more buttons. Love this one. And the soundtrack, just like the first game was alive, shifting, changing, the more we dive deeper.
Thank you. I plan on trying to make other videos like this regarding the other games on the series, and perhaps come back to this to make a better version in the future (a bit perfectionist when it comes to my edits)
I wanted to make a separate video about Samus encounters with Dark Samus, and how they help develop an interesting villain, definitely the best 'dark' character from Nintendo (IMO)
My favorite game of all time as well. This game is such a masterpiece and it gets so much undeserved hate for just a couple minor problems like the beam ammo needing you to waste ammo from the opposite beam to get more, or those two bosses being a bit unfair and bullshitty.
I think its all up to people's preferences, but I agree. I think the changes in the ammo makes combat a little more tense with having to manage some resources and the added difficulty always made it so rewarding when you finished a milestone
I love ammo. It was really just the fact that it didn't drop like a normal pick-up that killed the system... The way you have to get full ammo for both beam is so annoying, and because unlike every other pick-up it actually flies towards you it's even harder to do it... You need to use light beam to get dark beam ammo, and then quickly switch to dark beam and shoot the crates to get your light beam ammo that you just spend back BEFORE the dark beam ammo flies into you so you can have full ammo for both beams without that 2 or 3 extra ammo missing on your dark beam... It's one of the few things I was especially OCD about as a kid....
I know I'm 2 years late but i like Sanctuary Fortress more than torvus bog. Its my absolute favorite environment in the whole trilogy. The colors, the sounds, the powerups, the puzzles, the enemies, all fantastic in the fortress. Great video!
What people don't get about metroid prime 2 is that the beam weapons are much stronger than the other ones and if you didn't have beam ammo then the game would be easyer than the other games
Not to mention, if you want to look at it from an story perspective, the beam are Luminoth made and not Chozo. Therefore the Varia Suit might have not been fully compatible with the technology, thus limiting the beam to an ammo counter (that's assuming the Luminoth didn't know how to make infinite ammo weapons like the Chozo? but that would be more of a theory)
7:15 so that's where all the luminoths at the end are :0 hola, lindo planeta que tienen great video btw,I really wanna know more about the elysians and their relationship with the chozos and also with the bryyo's inhabitants backstory
Yeah that is where they had been before the end of the game. Its one of the many small details you can find in the world that makes this game all the better. I would be happy to make a video about the history of Bryyo and its factions and the early days of the Chozo in Skytown sometime in the future. Y si, los Luminoth tienen un lindo planeta
to further drive this point, this game is just like a movie, how you pick up new things as you grow up and replay it. new lore that makes sense or sticks with you, things that might make you feel something you might not have the last time you played it, etc etc. i honestly didnt know the luminoth were in those pods until i played it again and watched this video, the story telling in these games is just golden.
I know this is kind of a late thing, but I just thought i'd bring this up. I was interested to see what would happen if the Luminoth took a crack at making a power suit. I know the Light Suit might qualify, but I wanted to see something different. So, I made it. I drew a Luminoth-esque power suit, and incorporated a portion of their biology into it. Seriously, imagine a Luminoth power suit. It's pretty cool. I'm not gonna lie, i'm proud of my results, but I really wanna see what others can do with this concept.
In the Luminoth Lore they did create a power suit the Dark Suit. Along with its own array of power ups like the Anihilator Beam and Dark Visor. It was wielded by A-Kul the Champion of Aether.
@@jenothemississippianofmand5202 Yeaaaahhhh......I was kind of a noob at the time of typing this out and completely forgot about that. Still though, imagine Samus' Varia suit, except it actually looked like a more humanoid luminoth. That's what i did back then. Also, i really dig your name.
I just started playing Echoes last week when a friend let me borrow his Wii, and lemme tell you that Echoes not only feels like a worthy successor from Prime 1's footsteps, but the love Retro poured into Echoes does really shine brightest when you take a step back and see it as a whole.
Prime 2 has always been my least favorite out of the trilogy but i can't get over how epic you made prime 2 sound. It makes me want to Go finish what i couldn't as a kid. (Btw prime 1 on the gamecube was my first game EVER so the prime trilogy really means a lot to me)
(Prime 1 was also my official entry into he series, so I know exactly how you feel) I always preferred Echoes because of its difficulty and the intense lore behind it we don't fully get to experience in either one, its so subtle you might completely miss it, but even your brain starts to dissect the plight of the Luminoth (do recommend playing on the Trilogy version because they changed some of the 'unfair' bosses)
Awesome perspective. My favorite of these always changes. Currently playing through it now and I’m loving every minute. It’s such a solid game and might be my favorite this round
Thank you for giving love to what is arguably the best Metroid game ever, personally Prime 2 is by far my favorite Prime game. Yet I too was very sceptical of the ammo change, but once I played it I fell in love, and still am. Played it also more times then any other game, only Super Metroid Equals in plays to Prime 2. Glad someone else also liked it a lot, and luckily from the comments I'm not alone.
Ya sure you and I aren't the same person? We share the same non-mainstream opinion that Fusion is the best 2D- and Echoes is the Prime-game. I'd even go as far as to say it's the best videogame created. The reason why I prefer Echoes over Prime isn't necessarily because of the plot, although I do agree that it's richer and deeper. It's that it expands on Prime. Yeah, Morph-Ball was cool in Prime but very straight forward, when Echoes has entire mazes. Yeah, the bosses were great in Prime but Echoes has long and beautifully complex, draining boss-fights that push you to your limits and punish you if you don't approach them strategically. That's why when I discovered the Souls-series with their complex and punishing bosses my first thought: "That's just like Echoes!" In Prime I'd say only the endgame bosses beginning with the Omega Pirate had a similair quality.
I see what you mean, I loved the bosses in Echoes because they were tough, so defeating them and exploring more areas brought me a bigger sense of satisfaction, especially after running aimlessly trying to find the next boss. I here a lot people stating why the prefer Echoes over Prime 1, so instead allow me to simply put why (one of the reasons) that prefer Echoes over Corruption. Hyper Mode. A fun gimmick I do love and enjoy and its a great mechanic to end the Phazon crisis of the trilogy. But I hated how to kill almost anything in the game you had to forget your inventory and just 'Hyper Mode it' to death. Not to mention a lot of small-simple-design enemies than do more damage than they should, and of course, can only be killed easily with Hyper Mode
I agree with you on Corruption. Additionally, the game has a balancing problem as most people play games on normal-mode for the first time and the real Prime-experience awaits on Veteran, just like with the Trilogy version of Prime 1 & 2. Also, the game taught me that I prefer my one big world than different planets. Although the planet-hopping allowed for a great in-universe explanation for "teleportation", aside of the logical explanation for teleports in Echoes only Samus Returns will have teleportation in Metroid and I don't really feel like that belongs in the Metroid universe, even AM2R went out of its way to not call teleports, you know, teleports.
Corruption is shit and a Segway into nintendos shit metroid titles other m and federation force. Over cartoonization, offensive voice overs, and immsersion breaking motion controls for the sake of motion controls (the buttons plaguing the game, not the aiming.) prime 3 tried too hard to rely on gimmick and cheesy sonic story delivery. Its shit
Why don't you go and troll some big UA-camr who's already grown past caring? Don't troll a hard-working newcomer trying to establish his own unique channel. Or better yet, stfu and don't troll period.
I love prime 2, technically I love all the primes. But I love how each time I play through them I notice and learn something new. For instance I love how I’ve only just realized on my last play through that Samus’s dark armor suit is modeled after the Luminoth warrior. The color, the shape, and even the color of the visor & lights on the suit are the same as the Luminoth’s. I do really wish we got a definitive edition of the prime trilogy on Switch.
I'm glad to know there's someone else who's favorite game in the Prime series is Echoes. I like the increased difficulty and don't mind the beam ammo that much.
Wow! That was a great breakdown. I never looked at Quadraxis that way, but everything you say makes sense from what I do remember of the data log scans. Also, I always found it a bit creepy that the Ing were literally one room away from destroying Light Aether before Samus strolls in and casually steals the energy collector as a powerup.
I am happy to see you enjoyed the video, and to see someone who shared my thought on the Ing being so close to winning before Samus (accidentally) steps on their toes. Working on another video similar to this, hope you enjoy it once it comes out
You know what struck me the most during Prime 2? The Luminoth had been waging war against the Ing for YEARS before Samus's arrival, and had been steadily losing that war. But then Samus shows up and not only single handedly pushes back, but DEFEATS the entirety of the Ing within hours of landing on Aether. Can I just say, holy shit?! That really puts into perspective just how powerful she really is.
Echoes honestly was the best of the Prime Trilogy in my opinion, i hope they release it for the N Switch, because it'd be great to explore Aether again and aid the luminoth
This was excellent!!! I have Prime 2 and haven't gotten to it yet (going thru Prime 1 now), but now thanks to this I am so looking forward to it. Thank you for creating!
I don't know why that one Ing saying "Hola lindo planeta que tienen" got me rofling for a while, you're amazing and thank you for your videos and exquisite narration
I think Echoes is the Prime game I played the most, because I have a lot of memories of just exploring every crevice and scanning everything. my favorite area is the lab with the Metroids in the tubes/
I think Samus, being a bounty hunter, is pissed at the end because all she receives is praise but her power ups are taken away form her and she is given nothing material in return. I always liked her attitude and this is like the Majoras Mask of the Metroid world and my favorite Prime so far.
I always saw the ending in another fashion. In my eyes, Samus had to return the Luminoth tech because to create the Light Suit, she had to be infused with some of the Light of Aether, therefore she had to return the suit in order to fully replenish the Luminoth's power source. Perhaps she wanted the Luminoth to have their weaponry back as a sign of trust between them, return what was borrowed to save your world. Another reason is that Samus originally came to Aether to search for the Federation Troopers, therefore she will still get payed (and perhaps a bonus from the Pirate clean up duty) and helping the Luminoth came more from a sense of 'redemption' from not being able to save the Chozo.
One thing I'd like to point out is that Samus's designation as a "Bounty hunter" was a bit of a mistranslation. While it still captures her "space cowgirl" attitude of someone who takes orders from nobody but herself, it leaves out that the original Metroid developers intended her to prioritize protecting the weak over getting paid. You can see this in Prime 3, where all of the bounty hunters have similar motivations, and there are no bounty hunters working for the Space Pirates (none that aren't brainwashed, anyway.)
well you opened my eyes towards metroid prime 2 echoes. this game is now like 1000 times more beautiful to me. i didn't really like it before because it was so exhausting to play but now its so nice to know all of this information :D
Echoes is actually my favorite if the Prime games. The light and dark mechanics and the Ing themselves were some of the best things about Prime in general. The boss fights were also some of my favorite.
What I like is that Prime 1 shows how long the Leviathan’s impact has affected the planet, the second showing the aftermath shortly after impact, and the third showing what HAPPENS when a Leviathan strikes a planet. Just excellent ways to convey to the player the process of the poisons of Phazon.
They were easily some of the best highlights of the game, even the way Samus felt uneasy around her, made Dark Samus all the more threatening than other 'Dark' nintendo characters (in my opinion)
The Orpheon I also like her slightly more in this one (Dark Samus I mean) because she seems....unstable.....the seen where she laughs still kinda creeps me out. Also the fights against her were refreshing every time because every time you fought her again she had some new ability or attack like when you can only see her with the x-ray visor and then the echolocation visor. Those fights were very fun for me because I felt like I was fighting someone or something as smart as I was.
Nice! I was shocked when you presented the Luminoth in their hibernation state. I always wondered where all the luminoth could have been during the entire game. I would just think to myself I guess they were underneath the ground where U-Mos was 🤷🏻♂️, but now I know. 👍
I loooove prime 1 and 2. They are my favorite even with dark ather and beam ammo it left a lot more skill and thinking to how to use the more powerful beams. And you become the angel of ather
One of my favorite details you didn’t mention: The Dark Suit’s colors and detailing make Samus LOOK like a Luminoth. The resemblance becomes even more obvious when you add the Gravity Boost, giving a similar hunch-backed look.
Videos like that are the reason I wish you had more subs my dude ;-; you spend so much time editing and explaining lore, you are probably the best Metroid UA-camr I know
Thank you, I always try my best to give you guys the best viewing experience that I can and find ways to creative a narrative to immerse any newcomers into the rich lore of the franchise.
If you enjoy my content, could I please ask you to consider sharing my videos/channel. The extra exposure would be of much help and will be greatly appreciated
Of the Prime series Metroid Prime 2 - Echos is my favorite. It's challenges and the new abilities and power ups were among the best ever. A plus was the new visors, which provided more interesting ways to look at the world. And the addition of the Screw Attack and Wall Jump was a great touch that Prime 1 did not have. While I liked Prime 1 immensely, to me Prime 2 was much better.
My grammar was never the best (especially in Spanish) so I appreciate the correction. I guess my subconscious just tried to write in a simpler way for English speakers so its not to long or distracting. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the video thanks for watching
For the past few months I have played little to no video games but not to long ago I started playing again and I started with mp2 and I don't think I've had that much fun playing a video game before.
I love the luminoth. Probably my favorite alien in the universe besides the chozo. Also I liked prime 2 more than prime. The story is really interesting and I really enjoyed fighting all the guardian type ings. I did totally rage quit once with the spider guardian for a whole year, but I restarted the game and was much more prepared
this was quite a nice in-depth analysis of 2 Echoes's story, iv'e never thought of interpreting the Aether suits as "samus dipping her feet in the pool of other cultures to save them" your content varies from gameplay focused videos like the Fusion Guide, to story focused content like this , it's really nice to see videos about these older games in a modern format and perspective. aside from Samus Returns content, what else are you planning on making for future uploads? _which other game is deserving of a Lore Analysis or a Completionist's guide?_ specially one done so eloquently. think about it, *while the galaxy's at peace*
Happy to see that you are enjoying my content. The hole culture thing with the Luminoth as been something I have imagine for some time and I enjoy seeing people liking the idea. I think there is a lot of potential topics to make videos from (from guides to lore) As of now, I am finishing a quick Samus Returns video, but aside from that I have planned to do a video on the history of Bryyo (the reptilicus war) and perhaps a video guide on either Zero Mission/Samus Returns/etc I am always open to suggestions, so if you have a topic you would like to see, don't hesitate in letting me know
good luck on the Bryyo and Samus Returns videos. if i had a suggestion , it would be something between the lines of.... how to consistently beat Metroid 1 in one sitting, iv'e just learned how to beat Metal Gear MSX in one sitting and it feels wonderful and natural. and given Metroid 1's accessibility from Wii/U digital versions to Gamecube and GBA ports gotta say there must be plenty people out there who want to play metroid out of respect, but can't quite finish it out of dedication, but given how modded versions of the game like Metroid Mother have reported newcomers beating it in one go , just because of the addition of a map, a simple instructional video of where to go and what to do would surely turn this maze of a game into quite the enjoyable classic for free evenings.
Great video. I myself enjoyed MP2 best out of the trilogy... It was tough as nails which made it more rewarding and enjoyable once beaten. And it did a deeper method of story telling than Other M and MP3 without the use of voice acting... Simple but effective.
Echoes's method of storytelling is so subtle its almost borderline not there, and I love it, I think it was one of the things that made me sink my teeth into it all the more, so learning more after beating a tough boss was all the more rewarding
I would say the difficult boss fights and the ammo system helped make this game better, as it made you more conscious of how careful you have to be with conservation and how to strategize against bosses.
Same here, but I my guess is that Corruption's story and Hyper Mode made it easy for newcomers to digest, and it having more exposure from advertisement
The Orpheon It's really hard for me to choose a favorite among these games because anything less than the top position feels like an injustice towards them although I feel like prime 3 takes the cake for me (story, hunters, background lore). What's interesting to me though is that nobody can agree on what was the lowest point of the trilogy and what was the highest. There's many advocates for all three games.
In my personal opinion, after replaying the games for many times (and gathering footage for the games) I found Corruption to be my least favorite experience. I love the new characters and planets, but its more of gameplay nit-picks from my part with the small, but powerful enemies and the pirates loosing their luster since they appear on every planet
I did play this game but I didn't think I could have a proper opinion of it because my frame-rate was so bad, but for whatever reason, like an update or malware was removed, I now have 60fps. So I'm trying this game again. Can't wait for Quadraxis.
I love Echoes, it's absolutely my favorite Metroid. I love all of this game. This is my top 3 of Trilogy 1) Echoes 2) Prime 3) Corruption. Obviously this don't mean that I don't like Corruption but simply I like Corruption less than other 2 games. Next Friday is my first anniversary that I finished of game. I always wondered why Chykka in the European version is spell Anophelia, name that I prefer
I share a similar order of preference Echoes > Prime 1 > Corruption Also the different name for Chykka must be because you are playing the Italian version of the game, in which the boss is indeed called Anophelia
This was already my favorite game of all time. I didn't know it could get better. I only loved this game for how much fun it was, without even regarding the lore. What a mistake that was. There's so much subtlety and nuance to this whole story with so much more symbolism and dark overtones than I have ever taken the time to notice. A game where you save a dying race from monsters that can turn their entire world against them just for the sake of helping them is such an awesome concept that was never really touched upon in this series. What a game.
I think a really interesting tidbit in the lord you can find is the apparent connection between the Luninoth and the Chozo. They were apparently diplomatic partners before the latter species disappeared. You could argue that much of Samus’ motivation may tie into making up for the Chozo she couldn’t save on Tallon IV, but at least this time she could prevent that from happening again to possibly the closest Chozo-equivalent that still existed.
Does anyone know if there is any artwork or fanart of what Aether used to like before the war (and I guess looks after the events of the game)? I'd love to see the Torvus Forest or the Agon Plains.
+Yuri Ridley as far as im aware (or memory serves), there are no released art on Aether pre Leviathan impact. I think its kind of awesome we have no idea what it looked like, makes us imagine and puts us within Samus's perspective and thus keeps us intrigued of reading the lore
There's another little detail you forgot to mention: we often hear about a Luminoth named A-Kul, who is described as the Champion of Aether. We even find her (body) at the Sky Temple Gate, the only one of the Keybearers who succeeded in her mission, and previous wielder of the power-ups acquired from the three temple guardians: the Dark Suit, the Dark Visor, and the Annihilator Beam.
A-Kul had a bunch more of the power-ups, including the Seeker Launcher, Gravity Boost, and Echo Visor. She was absolutely decked out just like Samus was.
This game did environmental story telling on the level of the modern botw. I remember in certain areas where you scan the luminoth corpses you fond a father and daughter fighting together to the death. You scan a corpse that didn’t quite makes it through a patch of tangleweed. Reading the cadres entries about coming so close but then all dying one by one. Just some of the examples, bone of that os told to you in exposition you either digure it out yourself or you read about it and piece together the story of the luminoths ploght and war.
I like how the story in metroid prime is told you don't need words you just need to see for your self. you can read about the history and the planet if you want to or power through it. its this use of visiuals that metroid prime is fames for.
+N,J, Fox i have always been a firm believer that games should strive for more of a subtle approach to storytelling. Let the players explore the worlds at their leisure, and they will be immersed into your game. I think Prime set the bar for that, and i fee like i still haven't played anything that offers that on the same style (then again haven't played much current AAA games)
I've got a theory that the Ing are actually microscopic organisms who were mutated by phazon to the point that they were able to eat the metroid prime who crashed onto the planet. It would explain why Emperor Ing resembles the Metroid Prime and why there seems to be a lot less phazon than on Tallon IV. It also makes them a lot more tragic since they would be the actual natives to Aether, not the Luminoth, who adopted the planet later. They weren't able to evolve, they mutated. In my head, anyway, the phazon turned them into something more dangerous than the X parasite since they can take over metroids. I don't know if this is true but the way the game tells it's story is subtle enough that I think it might work.
I always liked Prime 2. It was the first Prime game I got, but not the first one I beat as I had played Prime 1 first. The light and dark elements fascinate me and the challenge was more tougher than Prime 1. It was a great game. I still have my Guide for this game. ^-^
Its my favorite in the series, from its world and music to its memorable bosses, the added challenge this game gave is something I miss from some games today
What make the Ing even scarier is that its heavily implied that they themselves actually evolved from the Phaz-Ing that you encounter late in Metroid Prime 3 Corruption. A theory suggests that when the Leviathan hit Aether and created the Dark Aether Dimension the Phaz-Ing on the said Leviathan we're somehow altered from beings of Phazon to beings of Dark matter.
I knew I was forgetting something, and wow it was a very big detail! I will see if I can address this in a later video, since I'm working on a video like this one but regarding a planet from Prime 3. Thanks for the information!
Okay so I'm not going to watch this video right now because I think I've been spoiled enough regarding Prime 2 & 3, I just wanna say that I just got Echoes and Corruption cheaper individually than anyone was asking for the Trilogy collection on eBay. How the hell does that work? Well since I already have Prime 1, guess it's easier for me.
Prime 2 is one of the best metroid game I love but I like the fortress better than argon waste but after you said that samus becomes a warrior for the liminmoth It made me love the game more but I love prime two because like majoras mask it is a dark painful feel to the game and I like games that have this feeling.
For you, the day Samus Saved/Destroyed/Blew up your planet was the single most important day of your life.
But for Samus it was Tuesday
i'd be honest, If I knew I was on the same planet as Samus (or anywhere remotely close) I'd be ecstatic
lol
MadCap loves you
The Orpheon i would try my best to get as far as possible
TheAdminSlayer Barricade Games: That’s Just A Fact Of Life!
in prime 3, at one point you can scan various planets including Talon IV and Aether. Talon IV is recovering from the Phazon infestation and the Luminoth are steadily rebuilding their lost civilization.
this makes me happy
It should be added that the Federation was helping the Luminoth by both protecting and aiding them rid the last of the Space Pirates on Aether after Samus left as well! They also went to Talon IV to deter anymore Space Pirates from returning back to the planet!!
Tallon IV was a ticking time bomb with its Leviathan. The planet was being corrupted by Phazon for over 50 years now, which is a LOT despite the Chozo slowing down the corruptive effect. By the time Metroid Prime takes place, Tallon IV's Leviathan was gonna kill all life in *25 years.*
@@Nyxael5845 Or become a Phaaze clone.
Well that, and she has nothing better to do while her ship is repairing itself.
@@JohnSmith-xf1zu Althought I had the same thought, retiring to her ship and waiting or staying with U Mos is still a better idea than jumping into the enemy's stronghold alone. She still had the choice to not help but she did.
Prime 2 is actually my favorite in the trilogy
Long as it's not corruption because fuck motion controls
well... i fucking love metroid's motion controls...
they just go so smooth. you lock an enemy, you still move you aim around. managing multiple enemies at once is rather comfortable that way. special enemies with multiple target's on their bodies add a bit of depth to the initial gameplay... those are just the most enjoyable motion controls i've seen.
aiming with a wii mote tend to be a bit more shaky, but you have at the same time the speed of a mouse and the absolute positioning of a stick (i mean that when you point the wiimote at the center, the cursor is in the center, while if you just move your mouse at the center of your mouse pad, your cursor can be anywhere).
Same here. It takes the best qualities of Prime 1 & 3
Me too, it's also my favorite of the trilogy. About the motion controls, I think they're so organic and easy to use, I have no problem at all and love using them.
Same
I know the beam ammo system gets a ton of flak from the fans, but it makes sense in-universe.
It also thematically fits with the desperate Luminoth being scarce on resources.
*The Quadraxis boss fight symbolizes which of the two species is superior, the Luminoth or Chozo*
Why I can only like this video once.
@@TSyoyo thats just pure speculation. Luminoth and chozo did share technology, at best it implies that the screw attack was a luminoth tech.
And yet the glitchiest metroid game runs better than the best sonic game
The Clorox Addict well this is the Majora's Mask of the Prime series, in some way. Tweaked engine, same platform, which helps speed up a lot of development internally.
Art from adversity.
The first metroid prime game could be hella broken too in terms of out of sequence or early power ups, starting with the space jump lol
Torvus Bog's music is amazing because it's a rearrangement of Super Metroid's Lower Brinstar
Yes, the Torvus Catacombs (also known as Lower Torvus) is a great remix of Super Metroid's Lower/Red Brinstar. I was referring to the music that plays on the surface level Torvus in the video, just to clear any confusion.
The Orpheon gotcha
In the light version of the room where u fight quadraxis you can see a tease of it. Big metal joints, legs and so on. I remember i thought as a child, man there had to be ass gigant robot here its a shame its allready destroyed. for my luck when i finally made it to the boss fight against quadraxis my jaw just dropped.
I had the cat same feeling. It doesn't help that in the room there are also a lot of Dark Quad-MB (tiny Quadraxis) making the foreshadow even stronger
I’ll do y’all one better. U-Mos literally shows you Quadraxis as he’s telling you about Sanctuary Fortress
Samus looking at her schedule:"oh its tuesday! what planet am i saving today?"
“All in a day’s work, giant moth people.”
Then again, it’s been a very long time since I’ve played these games.
Hannah Banina why did I just realize they look like moths wow um
I just finished it a few minutes ago lol
That's what makes the story so good, you're able to interpret Samus' action in several different ways. Was it to save a dying race on the verge of extinction or was it because she couldn't get a ride off the planet? You get to decide.
its been along time since you posted but the reason the leviathan created an alternate dimension was because if an adverse reaction with the planets energy. Aether is actually a rogue planet (one that doesn't have a solar system or sun) and thus is kept alive by the planetary energy ball that you see in the temples
That's what Other M was missing- spirituality. Good ol' fashioned universal spirituality that shines through in this game.
I honestly love how they brought back Samus’s original gunship for Prime 2.
THE BEST description of Metroid prime 2 I've ever heard. Well done!!
Thank you. I plan on trying to make other videos like this regarding the other games on the series, and perhaps come back to this to make a better version in the future (a bit perfectionist when it comes to my edits)
And all of that without mentioning her confrontation with her dark self... I love echoes...
Luminoth just wants lamp bröther
I know I'm 2 years late but i like Sanctuary Fortress more than torvus bog. Its my absolute favorite environment in the whole trilogy. The colors, the sounds, the powerups, the puzzles, the enemies, all fantastic in the fortress. Great video!
What people don't get about metroid prime 2 is that the beam weapons are much stronger than the other ones and if you didn't have beam ammo then the game would be easyer than the other games
Not to mention, if you want to look at it from an story perspective, the beam are Luminoth made and not Chozo. Therefore the Varia Suit might have not been fully compatible with the technology, thus limiting the beam to an ammo counter
(that's assuming the Luminoth didn't know how to make infinite ammo weapons like the Chozo? but that would be more of a theory)
The Orpheon you are literally pulling this from nowhere. This is speculation, no more no less
Zackonark yeah hun that's what he said
7:15 so that's where all the luminoths at the end are :0
hola, lindo planeta que tienen
great video btw,I really wanna know more about the elysians and their relationship with the chozos and also with the bryyo's inhabitants backstory
Your review really does this game the justification it deserves as it is my favourite in the trilogy
I am thinking of redoing this video in the future, just to make a more polished version and some new details I have noticed since then
Prime 2 has always been my least favorite out of the trilogy but i can't get over how epic you made prime 2 sound.
That's why when I discovered the Souls-series with their complex and punishing bosses my first thought: "That's just like Echoes!"
In Prime I'd say only the endgame bosses beginning with the Omega Pirate had a similair quality.

Same thing here, I feel the beam ammo made you think twice before wasting it willy-nilly and stopped you from the hole 'Plasma beam only' syndrome
The Orpheon I suffer from 'Plasma beam only' syndrome lol
As I mentioned Echoes is my personal favorite, I hope you enjoy it once you get to play it
I don't know why that one Ing saying "Hola lindo planeta que tienen" got me rofling for a while, you're amazing and thank you for your videos and exquisite narration
One my fav of your vids, man. Good job
Thanks, I’ve been considering remaking it with some new animated assets ive made and details that I have thought since then, might do it in the future
Echoes is actually my favorite if the Prime games. The light and dark mechanics and the Ing themselves were some of the best things about Prime in general. The boss fights were also some of my favorite.
Great channel, subscribed!
Thank you for the support, happy to hear you enjoy the content
What I like is that Prime 1 shows how long the Leviathan’s impact has affected the planet, the second showing the aftermath shortly after impact, and the third showing what HAPPENS when a Leviathan strikes a planet. Just excellent ways to convey to the player the process of the poisons of Phazon.
I loved the dark samus battles in this game. They were probably my favorite parts of the game.
Least favorite? What?!? Echoes was the best game I've ever played!
True i never really thought about it that way
Videos like that are the reason I wish you had more subs my dude ;-; you spend so much time editing and explaining lore, you are probably the best Metroid UA-camr I know
Thank you, I always try my best to give you guys the best viewing experience that I can and find ways to creative a narrative to immerse any newcomers into the rich lore of the franchise.
If you enjoy my content, could I please ask you to consider sharing my videos/channel. The extra exposure would be of much help and will be greatly appreciated
Of course
Of the Prime series Metroid Prime 2 - Echos is my favorite. It's challenges and the new abilities and power ups were among the best ever. A plus was the new visors, which provided more interesting ways to look at the world. And the addition of the Screw Attack and Wall Jump was a great touch that Prime 1 did not have. While I liked Prime 1 immensely, to me Prime 2 was much better.
8:32 Other M gave you your answer in the worst way possible
I think the right way is: Hola: que lindo planeta tienen.
But whatever, nicely done with this
My grammar was never the best (especially in Spanish) so I appreciate the correction. I guess my subconscious just tried to write in a simpler way for English speakers so its not to long or distracting. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the video thanks for watching
Prime 2 is my favorite of all the Metroid games.
For the past few months I have played little to no video games but not to long ago I started playing again and I started with mp2 and I don't think I've had that much fun playing a video game before.
+TenPoint OTwo Happy to hear you are having a blast with Echoes, its my favorite game
Echoes always was my favorite in the prime trilogy.
Echoes as the best narrative in my opinion
I love the luminoth. Probably my favorite alien in the universe besides the chozo. Also I liked prime 2 more than prime. The story is really interesting and I really enjoyed fighting all the guardian type ings. I did totally rage quit once with the spider guardian for a whole year, but I restarted the game and was much more prepared
this was quite a nice in-depth analysis of 2 Echoes's story, iv'e never thought of interpreting the Aether suits as "samus dipping her feet in the pool of other cultures to save them"
your content varies from gameplay focused videos like the Fusion Guide, to story focused content like this , it's really nice to see videos about these older games in a modern format and perspective.
aside from Samus Returns content, what else are you planning on making for future uploads? _which other game is deserving of a Lore Analysis or a Completionist's guide?_ specially one done so eloquently. think about it, *while the galaxy's at peace*
Happy to see that you are enjoying my content. The hole culture thing with the Luminoth as been something I have imagine for some time and I enjoy seeing people liking the idea. I think there is a lot of potential topics to make videos from (from guides to lore)
As of now, I am finishing a quick Samus Returns video, but aside from that I have planned to do a video on the history of Bryyo (the reptilicus war) and perhaps a video guide on either Zero Mission/Samus Returns/etc
I am always open to suggestions, so if you have a topic you would like to see, don't hesitate in letting me know
good luck on the Bryyo and Samus Returns videos.
if i had a suggestion , it would be something between the lines of.... how to consistently beat Metroid 1 in one sitting, iv'e just learned how to beat Metal Gear MSX in one sitting and it feels wonderful and natural.
and given Metroid 1's accessibility from Wii/U digital versions to Gamecube and GBA ports gotta say there must be plenty people out there who want to play metroid out of respect, but can't quite finish it out of dedication, but given how modded versions of the game like Metroid Mother have reported newcomers beating it in one go , just because of the addition of a map, a simple instructional video of where to go and what to do would surely turn this maze of a game into quite the enjoyable classic for free evenings.
holy shit , Bryyo is awesome! ua-cam.com/video/3pNgOKRKHJA/v-deo.html can't wait to see what you'll elaborate
Totally agree!
Currently playing through Metroid Prime 2 on an old GameCube. I must admit I agree with you about all you said. Great game!
I would say the difficult boss fights and the ammo system helped make this game better, as it made you more conscious of how careful you have to be with conservation and how to strategize against bosses.
I’m surprised people consider Echoes the worst of the trilogy. I always thought it was Corruption by far.
Same here, but I my guess is that Corruption's story and Hyper Mode made it easy for newcomers to digest, and it having more exposure from advertisement
The Orpheon Yeah, but here’s hoping Prime 4 goes back to the series roots...
I share a similar order of preference Echoes > Prime 1 > Corruption
Also the different name for Chykka must be because you are playing the Italian version of the game, in which the boss is indeed called Anophelia
Lol, iit exactly that I spell. I want know the cause of change of name. Anopheles is mosquito genre altough Anophelia is a dragonfly
Weren't the luminoth uplifted technologically by the Chozo? Great video! I never really thought about these subtleties.
I just hated that I needed to travel back and forward from dark to ligth and also find the last key temples only visible with the special scanner
I like the idea of Samus being an honorary Luminoth
Does anyone know if there is any artwork or fanart of what Aether used to like before the war (and I guess looks after the events of the game)?
I'd love to see the Torvus Forest or the Agon Plains.
+Yuri Ridley as far as im aware (or memory serves), there are no released art on Aether pre Leviathan impact. I think its kind of awesome we have no idea what it looked like, makes us imagine and puts us within Samus's perspective and thus keeps us intrigued of reading the lore
@@TheOrpheon Besides, old Aether doesn't have Sanctuary Fortress. It was build to fight Ing, so this awesome area didn't exist.
Notice how the background of the video changes colour depending on Samus' suit
This game did environmental story telling on the level of the modern botw.
I remember in certain areas where you scan the luminoth corpses you fond a father and daughter fighting together to the death.
You scan a corpse that didn’t quite makes it through a patch of tangleweed.
Reading the cadres entries about coming so close but then all dying one by one.
Just some of the examples, bone of that os told to you in exposition you either digure it out yourself or you read about it and piece together the story of the luminoths ploght and war.
god damn I want to replay them now
I like how the story in metroid prime is told you don't need words you just need to see for your self. you can read about the history and the planet if you want to or power through it. its this use of visiuals that metroid prime is fames for.
+N,J, Fox i have always been a firm believer that games should strive for more of a subtle approach to storytelling. Let the players explore the worlds at their leisure, and they will be immersed into your game. I think Prime set the bar for that, and i fee like i still haven't played anything that offers that on the same style (then again haven't played much current AAA games)
here here.
I love prime 2 so much. I wish I could copulate with it
Could you please make a torvus bog video! It's honestly the only place I remember by name because I loved it so much lol
This was definitely my favorite of the trilogy.
Who exactly likes 2 the least?!? It’s clearly the best
Thats also my fav Metroid game! Want it as a HD port for Switch
Hola, que lindo video que publicaste
Prime 2 is definitely my favourite of the Prime series, and my second favourite overall after Super Metroid. Prime 2 is a powerful experience.
I think Prime 2 is my favorite overall. Second might be Fusion
Last favourite??? Huh I loves it still have the game till this day
Dude I laughed at 2:14 when the ing came in speaking Spanish lol😂
Glad you like it, its a recurring/inside joke
WE GOT REKT!!!
I believe the Luminoth were trying to appeal to the gaming community, but yeah the Ing kinda rektd them
Man.... Gamecube had great graphics for its time.
I love Metroid prime 2
Also, you missed a detail. The Light Suit was created by combining Chozo and Luminoth technology.
I knew I was forgetting something, and wow it was a very big detail! I will see if I can address this in a later video, since I'm working on a video like this one but regarding a planet from Prime 3. Thanks for the information!
Glover music, woah!!
Funny note is that if you approach U-Mos in the Light Suit he actually lowers himself to Samus's level.
That Glover music in the beginning tho.
+Byrdman9855 honestly, dont know what made me want to add Glover music
Best Video
U-mos mission to Samus is basically to return Lämp.
Prime 2 is one of the best metroid game I love but I like the fortress better than argon waste but after you said that samus becomes a warrior for the liminmoth It made me love the game more but I love prime two because like majoras mask it is a dark painful feel to the game and I like games that have this feeling.
bought the trilogy yesterday but i don't have battery for my wii remote ;-;
