One breath he says, He's proud of Neal, and in that same breath he reminds him He's a criminal.

Sad.. Peter was so hard on Neal last season, he hurt him with words again and again.. :(

+Jessica Meyer I agree, Neal didn't deserve to hear all these things. Peter was way too harsh. :-(

Jessica Meyer Ikr, he just kept reinforcing that. Neal continues to do what he's been doing, because that is what Peter keeps beating into his head, and he's always one unsolved case away from being thrown back in jail.

yeah. After the seasons and growth in friendship that was in the seasons before, Peter's attitude in the last two seasons didn't make any sense. Where was the Peter that trusted Neal, that told him he deserved freedom and that he was proud of him? (with reason, Neal was succeeding at his reformation and btw, I don't buy the crap about Neal having been born bad and wanting to return to a life of crime in the end- and I refuse to believe he went back to crime)
I can't forget Neal's absolutely devastated, crushed look when Peter told him "You're a criminal. That's all you'll ever be". (Not the exact wording, but that's what he meant).
Also can't help but think that Peter's attitude, the sudden, completely non-logical 180 from believing Neal deserved freedom and being proud of Neal back to "He's a criminal and can't help himself" (and f*ck the years he's proven himself and our friendship) played a part in Neal's decision to pull that con in the end. Though he never wanted to hurt his friend and wanted to trust him, to stay with him and El and Mozzie, it simply hurt too much not to be trusted in return, he felt trapped and then there was the very real fear the FBI would dishonor their deal, like before and probably an additional fear of Peter, El, June and Mozzie being hurt because of him (by either side). I believe Mozzie was in on the con though. A con Neal felt trapped into and also a con that must've hurt him just as much as the others- a con that damned him to run away from the people he called family. People he wanted to stay with. People he'd miss dearly.

@@ayayla7846 I agree. Very well said. In season 6 although they still had a mutual respect and friendship, the trust from Neal to Peter was gone. (Like the trust Peter had to Neal) He didn't trust him to hold up the deal so he made sure whatever happened he walked away free.
      What a beautiful buttersweet ending.

@@TamiRPerl8456374155 exactly. And that didn't make sense. Because I think Neal really wanted to stop the life- no aspirations to continue at all (and he wanted to be reformed- then comes Peter's sudden attitude change and Dr. Summer's psychedelic drug suggestion that he doesn't want to give up the life...if everyone, even the person he trusts more than anyone tells you you're a criminal, of course you'll start to believe it- but I believe that Neal DIDN'T go back to a life of crime, he just ran because he stopped believing he'd ever be seen as anything more than a criminal and it hurt). And Peter had SEEN Neal change. He knew Neal and he had once even recommended he should be set free...suddenly, he's back to treating him like an untrustworthy criminal? What the h*ll? It doesn't make sense.
To me, that was a betrayal of the character(s), the shows premise (a criminal turning over a new leaf, because Neal was doing it and successfully) and the viewers.

I really wish Peter would go easy on him he treats him like he's a criminal and it's not fair. Neal deserves better than that he is not a criminal he deserves to be loved unconditionally not treated like he's a criminal it hurts him when Peter doesn't believe him. Neal deserves so much better and I wish Peter would give him a chance to prove that he is worthy instead of treating him like a criminal he deserves to be treated with respect it's not like Peter to keep treating him like he's a criminal🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
