Aigues-Mortes est une commune française de Petite Camargue, située à la pointe sud du département du Gard, en région Occitanie. Aigues-Mortes est une commune urbaine et littorale qui compte 8 664 habitants en 2020. Elle est renommée pour ses remparts et ses arènes, appelées le Plan des Théâtres et destinées aux courses camarguaises. Les Salins d'Aigues-Mortes qui exploitent le marais de Peccais, emblématique de la production du sel camarguais, se trouvent également sur le territoire de la commune.

Aigues-Mortes is a French commune in Petite Camargue, located at the southern tip of the Gard department, in the Occitanie region. Aigues-Mortes is an urban and coastal commune which has 8,664 inhabitants in 2020. It is renowned for its ramparts and its arenas, called the Plan des Théâtres and intended for Camargue races. The Salins d'Aigues-Mortes which exploit the Peccais marsh, emblematic of the production of Camargue salt, are also located on the territory of the commune.

Aigues-Mortes translates as “dead water,” but the salt marshes that surround it made this medieval city thrive because of its main industry: producing sea salt. Fortified by a Mediterranean port built in the 12th century, the great walls of Aigues-Mortes are still intact. Follow the path along this wall to see beautiful views.
