very interesting questions. To me, the answer is very simple. In arcgis, Instead of Layer stacking, it is called Mosaicking. But in ENVI, ERDAS-it is known as Layer stacking. The same for SUBSET. You can call it subset or clipping . The meaning is ultimately same. Hope you understand my explanation. Thank you. Please keep in touch.
