In terms of cultural impact, and for how much it transcended into different generations, SpongeBob is the GOAT of cartoons. No one outside of Looney Tunes had a chokehold on the entire industry the way SpongeBob did. In terms of what’s the greatest show all around, ppl have different answers. Ppl say the newer episodes suck, which holds weight, but again, I can’t name one show that’s ran for far too long that hasn’t fell off. Those first three seasons had exceeded past pop culture and were so good that it really doesn’t matter if it sucks now I feel like SpongeBob is more like LeBron James or Tom Brady. All three of which popped off in the new millenium, had rabid fanbases and support, but as time goes on, they’ve gotten a lot of exposure, became cash cows, and a lot of haters and critics come into the picture.
The only thing I would say about this is the number of generations. The main 3 being Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry, and Sesame Street I honestly said I couldn't even speak about the peak cause I wasn't BORN YET(I'm 22). So while Spongebob definately reached a lot of generations the other 3 have been at the top of the whole spans of those generations entirely. It's like a "Imagine if MJ first released Thriller on YT/spotify" situation. We wouldn't be able to fathom the peak.

SpongeBob definitely peaks as hard as any cartoon, but yeah they really drop off and weaken the overall quality of the entire series if you account for that heavily. I love Gravity Falls and I think individual episodes of seasons 1-3 of SpongeBob peak harder, but Gravity Falls is so clean and consistent with a better story in 2 seasons that it never bottoms out close to spongebobs worst. The Story of Aang is the greatest, if not by this metric, to stand at the foot of its own greatness.
This is might be a me thing, but tbh I can’t stand the first 5 seasons of South Park, can’t stand might be a of a over exaggeration but man, there’s a noticeable difference between how they wrote episodes pre season 6 and everything after. Simpsons definitely has the stronger first 6 seasons but I forget when, but they definitely had a decline while south only continued to get better after what I would say is some of their worst seasons.
