Great summary for the inexperienced traveller. Very loose plans are the best kind! Having enough time to take things slow/adjust to a hiccup really reduces the pressure and stress. I love your wandering days videos, and the ones like this one. The fact that you are just honest, no up-sell also brings me back every week. Thx

But at least you have each other! I've been traveling solo for decades and have lived or worked in 40 countries since 1990. Imagine experiencing these challenges all on your own, with no one to help when things go wrong. I'm 63 now and, while I still think about going back on the road, it's not nearly as much fun as it used to be.

I agree . Solo travel can be tricky and even scary at times . I am 64 now , been travelling full time for over 10 years . Accommodation is very expensive now too .Moving back into my UK home at the end of the year and will do trips of a few months at a time in the future ..

Thanks for this! We hope to head out of the US in two years. 7 months on the road, 5 months (summer) at home at our camp in the mountains. I really like these videos that are mostly unscripted with you two sitting and chatting, but I also like the videos where you’re walking around the areas you’re in. Videos of your accommodations and monthly costs are super appreciated too…especially since prices have been rising around the world. It helps me plan a budget. For those of us planning to follow in your footsteps, I want ALL the details! Keep it up!

I LOVE THIS FORMAT!!! Thanks for sharing your stories/tips/etc. Always booking things that are free cancellation is a huge importance to me - same thing happened with a rental vehicle (1/2 price within a couple weeks of getting there when had booked at least 6-8 mos in advance) - great job!!

After almost 3 years of slow/early retirement travel, we completely agree with all of your points! One additional challenge for us is finding community and having enough time with friends and family. Our solution has been to make San Miguel de Allende our homebase for at least three months a year. It’s a place where we have made wonderful friends, and it is not a hard sell to family and friends to come see us! The other is to plan our travels in a way that connects us with friends around the world. That has made a huge difference in feeling connected with people who mean a great deal to us. However, the challenge with that is that we live our lives as slow travelers and when we connect with friends and family, they are on vacation so managing budgets and energy becomes a new challenge. However, that is a challenge we are happy to tackle!

That is so wise, thank you! My husband and I are thinking along the slow/early retirement lines, and I've wondered how to feel connected to a place, also how to nurture friendships/community, which sounds especially important in this life stage. All sounds really well thought-out!

Hi guys, great video. Any plans to do an annual budget update video, ie where you take into account the recent inflation spikes and cost of living increases, and the impact on your world travel plans? I believe in the past your budget was something like £35k per year sterling (or was that US$?). Has that increased for this year? Cheers Ian

Great to see you guys back. You were such great inspiration in our readiness to full time travel. We’ve been travelling full time now for just over 3 months and are having the time of our lives. Our first 6 month block we’re using as a test and hooley Dooley we’ve way overpacked….no pizza tray like you Neil but still way too much. Actually looking forward to our trip home in September to offload a lot of our stuff. Can’t see us going as low as carry on yet but hopefully just one bag each.
Anyway good to see you guys back and looking happy and healthy.

Hi Neil and Sara, Good to see both of you - I don't think many couples could jointly present in such a comfortable and balanced participatory way! Well done!
I am still waiting for your repeat visits to places you really like (Chang Mai among others). Just to get your take on what they feel like with a bit more familiarity. The Little Prince and his rose! Just to give an example I have chosen Pau and Menton in France to do extended stays. In Pau, I will stay at a previous Airbnb, having cut them out and will pay cash on arrival - it takes building trust on both sides, but I am getting a great deal that checks all my boxes while the owner is letting in the off season for a significant period of time pocketing much more than through an official channel like Airbnb. I do this now in the Puglia region of Italy too. So little by little my 6 to 7 months on the road start getting filled with repeat destinations where I really explore in depth (e.g. in France and Italy you can use a medium sized town as a base and take regional bus trips to villages at a fraction of what a train would cost). I have friends in these places now as well. Repeat visits would also address some of the issues you bring up here.
    Cheers, Rod from Honolulu

Great video and nice to see you back again. I have found the same situation with reserving rental cars. I always reserve early to make sure the car I want will be available, but as the date for pickup approaches, I check again and usually find that the price has dropped. So I do like you did, make a new reservation and cancel the old one. I've found those 5 surprises to be true for me, too. My concerns about safety, language barriers, medical, budget were all unnecessary. Furthermore, Kuala Lumpur is now my main healthcare location outside the US. Thanks for sharing!

AirBnB has become very very expensive lately. I am trying to book accommodation in Fortwilliam, Scotland anytime in late July or August for my four children and myself. The average price is £250 per night, which isn’t sustainable for a family. I guess I’ll need to look elsewhere.

We have started massively avoiding car rental while traveling. The hassles are real! Plus, at home, we have a plug-in Hybrid, whereas abroad it's expensive to rent any such car, so we know our carbon footprint is going way up (that on top of the air travel, which honestly dwarfs driving). And I remember getting a parking ticket in a small town in Italy on a weekend right before we were leaving the country--and the logistics of paying that ticket were unreal! We couldn't just go to the office (as suggested on the ticket) because it was closed (plus, we had more enjoyable ways to spend time). The domestic payment options didn't work for us because we didn't have an Italian credit card or bank account. The car rental agency (which already had our credit card info) wouldn't help us. Finally we got to info that let us pay, after racking up all kinds of late fees--I think we wired them money in the end??? What a pain. If we'd just taken the train everywhere, no problem. But sometimes cars let you go places that public transportation doesn't.

I always wonder what to write when you ask for it. I imagine that’s quite normal for the “watchers” vs “the creators”. But, here goes.
Do you like this format? ABSOLUTELY!
I am in what I consider the “dreamer” category. I want what you are doing, but children I have two kids and other constraints, so I am not at that point. That doesn’t mean that I can’t tune in to you both and soak up the reality of slow and world travel. In each and every video you post, I get two things. 1) I get a huge amount of insight into travelling to the many locations you have been, and how you have done it. I also get 2) which is how well you two operate together. The videos need both of you, as it is the balance applied to the content.
    I love these channels. ❤

Would be Interesting to hear your thoughts on health insurance and options for people from the UK. Ryan Air: several years ago, my husband was once flying to see his elderly parents in Budapest, there were storms, and the plane dropped them off instead in Bratislava (Slovakia!!) late at night, saying someone there would help them get to Budapest or there'd be a bus or something. Hahaha, there was nothing, so they were all just waiting on the street outside the airport until someone random from the airport told them this happens sometimes and there's no system. So my husband shared an Uber (!) to Budapest for the 2-hour drive. He tried to get compensation later from Ryan Air, but because it was weather-related, he got nothing. (Don't get me wrong, I like that airplanes aren't penalized for making weather-related safety judgments....) So we swore to never fly Ryan Air again...but tbh, sometimes if there's nothing with more workable timetables, we do anyway, we just know we're taking our chances. Sigh.

    Forgive me for being confused.
There are a growing trend of YT channels with people claiming to be 'retired' whilst monetizing their channel for income.
I think it would be helpful to be clear if you are doing something like barista FIRE etc. i e. Live off the 4% of your house sale plus make extra here and elsewhere?
You do appear to be wanting the channel to be work and provide an income. There was also discussion about doing 'consulting'.
