I bought a set of used Peugeout salt and pepper grinders. I took apart to clean without looking at the bottom. Now I don’t know which is the pepper and which is the salt. The grinders aren’t the same. One grinder raised and one is level. Could someone tell me which is which?
The grinders for salt and pepper look different because are made from different materials. That in turn is because peppercorns have moisture in them. Metal would degrade with that moisture over time. I am not sure - and please check this before taking my word for it - but I suspect at least some pepper grinders have ceramic mechanism. But other use ceramic for both salt snd pepper. Some grinders literally can be used for both salt and pepper and the purpose of labelling is to let the user know which is which. That is why I have acquired transparent pepper and salt mills. I can just see which is which and also I know when tbey need to be refilled. It used to drive me insane that With wooden mills I could not ‘see’ how mych was left in.
Hoe did you disassemble? I get stuck after removing the screws. I can't get the grinder out . Btw the salt has a flat bottom. The pepper has a U shape bottom.
These are 30 cm mills- and each is anywhere between 70-85 dollars( Australian Dollars). But there are smaller sizes available though on several online stores and they will cost less. Prices vary from store to store and some are selling same thing for 100 dollars - instead of 75 dollars. So you would have to do a bit of research.
