I have a Surfacebook 3 that works pretty well with linux, probably the best supported surface device. Only the touchscreen doesn't work without the surface kernel.
Sounds like you should get a Thinkpad T480 instead if you don't need a dedicated graphics card. But if you need a beefier gpu that is not nvidia, I would look into 1st or 2nd gen T14 or equivalent in P series with amd apu.
I would generally have looked at those as options, however Nvidia is still generally speaking the GPU that works the best for me when it comes to things such as NVENC, and a few other things that for me, AMD does not do from a content production POV. The Surface Book fits much more of the every situation device I need given that I am traveling a lot and need the flexibility that it offers, that a traditional 2 in 1 or laptop doesnt provide. - Matt

I've also had good luck with Surface devices, though they haven't had NVIDIA inside.
I can only speak to what my experience with it on that particular device has been, but awesome to hear its been good for you. - Matt
@@TheHillmom it really depends on the device. In my case I'm all Intel hardware and don't undock like what Matt is talking about.
