Sarah is just perfect for this space, great screen presence, humour and passion for the hobby. Great to see her on DT.
One minute in, they fix the audio issues. If you came here to check, it’s almost better now. Just give it a second.
Thanks Luke! Paused to quickly check the comments exactly for this
Thanks!
Thank you!
Thank you!
Great
Anachrony doesn't get enough love! What an amazing game, breathing theme and with a great time travel mechanic.
it's beautiful! I think I like Trickerion a hair more, but I still have the Infinity Box 😁
A
Definitely need more of these updated top 10s. This is awesome and current, looking forward to more top 10 "X" game3mechanics. Keep up the good work!
Caverna, Agricola, Feast for Oden....oh where has all the love gone
My favorite genre -- appreciate this list. My first experience with Sarah. REALLY like her in the mix. More please.
Honey Buzz looks and sounds amazing. And I hadn't realized that Endangered was a cooperative worker placement game. That's so cool! I looked at it before, but somehow I missed that. Now I'll definitely have to check it out again. Thank you Sarah!
Tom, I adore Chimera Station! The pieces are fantastic, the customizable workers add so much fun thinkiness to the game, and it has such a high replay value due to the fact that the board is built almost from scratch every time. It's one of the few long games that gets consistently played year after year in our household.
Also, I really disagree with Zee about Stone Age. The probability aspect of more workers equals more dice is so cool, and I have not seen it done in a new game that could replace it for me. But, Zee, Demon Worker sounds amazing. Thanks for letting us know about that one. Maybe it could be a candidate for the Dice Tower Essentials line?
Thanks for adding the chapters. It helped me find where I had been earlier in the video
Thank you! Big fans of worker placement!
Great to see Shem Phillips getting the recognition he deserves in this category
Tom I was actually surprised you didn’t have Caverna on there!
Some absolute gems left off this list.
Great list! Relatively new to worker placement and these gives me some interesting options.
Still love Pillars of the Earth for this mechanism. Thank you guys!
Yes!
We love the expansion, too.
I really enjoyed the video, thank you. I am also surprised at the lack of Uwe Rosenberg, Vital Lacerda or Dinosaur Island, but one positive is that it meant that I learnt about more games that I didn’t already know about and so have more to explore. I’ve put them on the list!!
We really like Dinosaur Island. Agree.
super cool list there thks all for the compilation
Bravo! This is probably my favorite video you guys have done in a bit. I feel like it’s fresh I love the new fresh faces you’ve been bring into your videos and I hope that continues those fresh points of view. Absolutely love it and some of these games I haven’t even heard of and I was excitedly checking eBay and checking Amazon for availability. All in all a real breath of fresh air! Great going, Tom! This is what I’m talking about!
Heeeeeeeeey!!! Good to see you here, Sarah. Can't believe from BG41 to here so fast. Congrats :D
The Bald Mexican dude (missing from the group and FB in general for a while).
Really nice lists and participants !
I'm surprised not to see Agricola, which is such a classical worker placement game... But there are sooooo many ! Last ones I played were Dinogenics and Lewis & Clark before thart, but also Taverns of Tiefenthal could qualify as dice placement, Alchemists is essentially a worker placement game with additional deduction mechanics...
Most unique one was Pursuit of Happiness where workers are in fact hourglasses and you chose where to invest your time in life, at work, dating, with family, on hobbies, on a good cause, or just trafficking, frauding and stealing all life long instead of getting a job...
This is an old thread, likely no one to see my new comment, but anyway... Orleans - great worker placement game still today, arguably one of the best to date, especially with the bag and only being allowed so many workers to come out each round; Outlive - very cool, somewhat simplistic post-apocalyptic worker placement with a bit of theft involved; Viscounts of the West Kingdom - oh man, loving the center tower buildup and the outside edge, the going around the map to pick up cards and resources, so good!; Kingsport Festival - which is just Kingsburg really with a Cthulhu theme, but WOW does it look great and you play as cultists and the investigators are the bad guys! Good, darker game! Thank you for your lists, guys, we love your program!
Nice- Whistle Mountain AND Energy Empire!
Everdell is a beautiful game! I need to get the Tuscany expansion to my Viticulture! And I really like all of the West Kingdom games, too! Istanbul's worker placement sounds a little like the worker placement on Century: A New World, which I have as a lightweight worker placement that I bought to play with non-gamers (like my husband).
I will have to check out a few more on these lists because I apparently like worker placement since I have so many that are! :D
Demon Worker is great! I picked it up randomly for a friend a few years back when I was in Japan.
Trickerion is my #1 game ever, and as soon as I saw Sarah's pick I subscribed to her channel immediately. 😊👍🏼 Great video!
Same! 😄
Euphoria is an excellent dice-worker-placement game.
The bangs look great!
Sarah is hilarious. Lots of cute themed games and then #3 is piecing body parts together.
Rajas of the Ganges IS a worker placement game: Dice are just a resource you spend to use the action. And, it's great!
Loved Sarah's energy she brought, even if she wasn't super used to this format. I'd love to see her in more things!
Yay Sarah! Great seeing you on this!
Gugong is a great game that uses cards as workers. Definately worth checking out. They launched a really nice expansion just last year. It's such a strong, tight elegant game.
Great lists everybody! Loved seeing Sarah from BGIAM on your channel, such a nice energy!
Great lists. 1 game I really love that doesn't get a lot of appreciation is "Village". One of my absolute favorite Worker Placement games!
Great one!
Yeah that game is super fun
Especially since the workers get old and die!
Some interesting picks for sure. Besides the Uwe games, I was surprised that Rajas of the Ganges, Robinson Crusoe, and Champions of Midgard with expansions (Probably the best worker placement game) weren't on their lists.
Yasss! Obsession is EXCELLENT!
Totally agree with Tom on Trickerion. Not terrible but just very lacklustre and a fun theme just didn’t turn into fun mechanisms
Hello! Great job everybody on your channel, your guest also! I like very much in this category Yedo, Dungeon Petz and Marco Polo 2.
Liked the video! Russian Railroads is a wonderful worker placement game as well!
I enjoyed this...especially Sarah Shah. I hope she is on again soon.
With no Uwe on the lists it kinda felt like a top ten action movie stars with no Arnold Schwarzenegger.
I could make that list easily 😂
Yeah, I'm really surprised. How could you have a top 10 worker placement list without any Uwe? Agricola, Caverna, AFFO, Le Havre, Nusfjord, Reykholt... really none of them?
@@jOmegaK Recency bias
@@mattygibson3899 I don't think so, most of the games on this list are as old or older than the majority of the Uwe games listed. Caverna came out in 2013, AFFO 2016, Nusfjord 2017. I'm not really sure how to explain the absence. I heard Tom's justification for not including AFFO, in that he feels the tetraminos are a bigger part of the game than the... worker placement? I don't quite agree with it, but that doesn't really explain the absence of Caverna. I also don't really see these lists at being so tight that they couldn't have been included, but it's not my list, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I do enjoy the mechanism in Lewis & Clark where you get all the workers
I got Chimera Station because of Tom's original review of the game, and man, do I love it.
Would be cool with a top 10 Card drafting list from the three of you 😃
As soon as Zee started winding up his number 3 I hit the thumbs up button. Brilliant
Obsession and viticulture are great picks. Both are favorites of our gaming group.
Wow, so many games that I have never heard of yet 🤔 Viticulture is an alltime favorite, of course. But how about Near and Far, Robinson Crusoe or Kitchen Rush? Or can worker placement games not be coop?
Istanbul a worker placement game!?.... that's a streeeeeetch.
My fave is Anachrony, the theme, so cool.
My top 5
1. Underwater Cities
2. Honey Buzz
3. Parks
4. Near and Far
5. Istanbul
Great lists and great job by Sarah.
1. Anachrony is definitely my favorite
2. Raiders of the North Sea
3. Manhattan Project Energy Empire
4. Viticulture
5. Everdell
6. Architects of the West Kingdom
7. Asking For Trobils - one the best 6-7p games made (also plays 2-5p)
8. Mint Works
9. Wreck Raiders
10 Cytosis
On the fence between raiders and architects. Any suggestions?
Top 100 Worker Placement video! Yes please!
The People’s list matched up with mine the best. 😊
Great video! Always love seeing Sarah in longer-format videos; she’s really engaging. Great choice for a guest!
Obsession! Great choice!
Raiders of the north sea is my favourite. The theme and the board are just great.
So many great games in this genre. Architects would definitely be on you list but a few of my favourites didn't get mentioned- Tzolkin, The Ancient World, Anachrony, Champions of Midgard...I'd also have Lords of Waterdeep not because it does anything particularly different but it hugely popularised worker placement games.
Wow! You let Coimbra get through too easily! Worker placement?
I love the look and theme of Lost Ruins of Arnak but it looks like such a table hog. We’ve got a small place without a big table.
Thought I would see Covert from Zee. One of my all time favorites and kind of under the radar is Thrashn roll and On Mars
Great video and great lists.
Sarah rocks and fits the group perfectly
@Tom: I would really love to see a Top 10 games that best provide tension. That wonderful stress that's in so many games I love. It's probably my favorite element in games when it's done well.
I like Viticulture and started playing it while this video was playing! Actually like it better than Stone Age, and that grande worker is my top feature! Great pick for this list :).
Chimera Station, such a cool game, it needs more love.
Great video! Glad to see Sarah joining in the fun👍 Worker Placement is one if my favorite mechanisms.
+1 for top 100 worker placement
I was surprised no list had Tzolk'in on it, especially with everyone at least somewhat trying to highlight unique ways the mechanic is used.
I love Abomination Heir of Frankenstein...where do I get these updated components you speak of?
This is the first video I have seen with Sarah. Great job.
No Mint Works? This little game makes for a perfect little travel worker placement game. Low profile and you can carry it in your pocket.
I would confirm that Istanbul is a worker placement game
Sarah needs to be a regular guest 👏
Agricola is my favorite worker placement game by far. Surprised it wasn't mentioned!!
You should try Caverna.
Time for another Top 10 Dice Games! Perhaps 2 sets - Top 10 casual games and Top 10 more serious games...Euros etc.
Confused how Tom didn't have Champions of Midgard on this list. Yet fought about it as an adventure game and stated it being one of his favorite games......
Is Tzolk’in considered a worker placement game? It is one of my favorite games to play. I’m also glad to see the people pick Anachrony.
Maybe these days you're not supposed to talk about Tzolk'in ... who knows? Anachrony is fantastic ... I love how the workers have different specializations.
I want to see much more of Sarah!
We love Bruxelles 1897. The playmat is beautiful.
What was the reason for not including dice placement games? How are they less pure as worker placement games? Because of the randomness somehow? Worker placement games don't need to be 100% deterministic.
WOAH Empires Age of discovery that high? I got it on some crazily over-discounted clearance sale on a whim and quite enjoy it but never hear anyone talk about it.
My Top 10:
10. Russian Railroads
9. Manhattan Project Energy Empire
8. Paladins of WK
7. Bruxelles 1893
6. Feast for Odin
5. Viticulture
4. Tzolkin
3. Age of Empires
2. Raiders of North Sea
1. Architects of WK
The considerations were: How much i like the game and How much i like the worker placement aspect.
On the fence between raiders and architects. Any suggestions?
@@CharlesHepburn2
I would say both hehe. But maybe Raiders, because it has 2 good expansions.
Games I own and have played:
1. Lords Of Waterdeep
2. Champions Of Midgard
3. Raider Of The North Sea
4. Alien Frontiers
5.
Architects of the West Kingdom
6. The Pillars of the Earth
7. Mangrovia
8. Kingsburg
9. Simurgh
10. Thieves Den
Games That I have not played but am dying to play:
1. Dune: Imperium
2. Viticulture
3. Stone Age
4. Merlin
5. Lost Ruins of Arnak
6. The Taverns of Tiefenthal
7. Voyages of Marco Polo (1& 2)
8. Empire Age Of Discovery
9. Ore: The Mining Game
10. Fresco
I love Holmes, btw. Easy, reaaaaaally cheap and fast. As always, I like your likes, Zee. And yes, Fallout Shelter couldn't be out from this list.
When's the top 100 worker placement sequel happening?
Nothing new or ground breaking, but Prêt-à-Porter is a solid worker placement game and just an all around great game.
Excluding dice placement games.
My favourites:
Caylus
Dominant Species
Viticulture Essential Edition
On Mars
Architects of the West Kingdom
Vasco da Gama
Agricola
Carson City
Lancaster
Yedo
Dungeon Petz
Argent: The Consortium
Tzolk'in
Yes!! Dungeon Petz!
Agree on good old Agricola. Still a great game! We love Dominant Species. Not sure if it’s worker placement or area control. Long, deep game... I don’t think there’s enough out there about it so it goes by unappreciated:)
What about Circadians: First Light?! It’s dice placement but it acts similarly to worker placement. Definitely in my top ten.
I am kind of surprised that no one picked Lords of Waterdeep - always thought that this game is kind of a staple of worker placement games.
Top 15 Worker Placement games:
1. Carson City: I have the original with 2 or 3 expansions, don't own the updated one...
2. Architects of the West Kingdom
3. The Pursuit of Happiness - I have 1 expansion and quite enjoy this game
4. Century: A New World mixed with Century: Spice Road - owned and played this once and loved it, unfortunately my wife hated it and sold it. It may even be higher, but can't justify it with 1 play...
5. Lords of Waterdeep: I used to tolerate the game, but each time I played it, I liked it more. It is a good game.
6. Imhotep: this has fell off for awhile, but played it again with an expansion and liked it
7. Belfort: used to be higher, but has dropped
8. Coal Baron: The Great Card Game: got this on sale, based on Tom's review, I think, it's quite good, and its a card game where the cards are workers like the game mentioned earlier in the vid, surprised Tom didn't remember this. Not an amazing game, but fun nonetheless
9. Agricola Family Edition: this would be much higher, but lacks replayability... I quite love this game, but had to put it away as it began to be predictable.
10. Mint Works: an enjoyable tiny game
11. Targi: my wife loves this game, but I think it meh. I got the expansion hoping it would be better. it was but only a little, needs more plays with the expansion, if I can get motivated...
12. Alien Frontiers: once a top 10 game in my entire collection but after many games, found a winning strategy that takes away the fun...
13. Bora Bora
14. Deadwood
15. The Pillars of the Earth: very similar to Agricola Family Edition, that is, an amazing game, but began to be predictable.
My favorite worker placement game would be Dice Hospital.
Viticulture is my favorite, want to try Architects, Fallout Shelter, and Obsession.
I was really surprised Tom didn't include Champions of Midgard
None of you have played Tresure Mountain, it has everything you want. A bunch of dwarfs ranked and tile laying game, where you mine gems. A higher ranked dwarf can replace a lower ranked dwarf, but the dwarf goes back to the owning player to use again. It also has a dragon and if you fail to beat that dragon, you lose a dwarf to the prison for a turn. So you need to get tiles to build your mine to get gems, but also axes to beat the dragon. Check it out its a brilliant game, I backed on kick starter.
Dark Domains is an excellent worker placement game that does not get enough love.
Thanks for this list, and for having the most excellent Sarah Shah on the stream!
Love me some Sarah.
Wow, I own a game (and have played it multiple times) that neither Zee or Tom have played - Bruxelles 1897. They had a great booth at Essen '19, guess you guys missed it.
I also played it at Essen an I instantly loved it. But everybody else at the table didn't like it at all.
Unfortunately my wife was among them. So no Bruxelles for me :(
1. Trickerion
2. On Mars
3. Argent the Consortium
4. Bus (one of the OG wp games)
5. Dungeon Pets
6. Targi
I have not played Uwe's games enough...I'm sure some of his would be on the list. As would Anachrony for the same reason.
I was happy to see Sarah participating in a Top 10, but also disappointed that she didn't get garbage for Coimbra as a worker placement game.
My thoughts exactly.
I was surprised at how many new games were on the lists. Missed a few of my favorites like Snowdonia, Yedo and Kanban. But, I now have several I really need to check out.
I have Yedo on order, really looking forward to trying it out. I hear it's like LoWD but with a stronger theme.
Super cool list. Love Sarah! She needs to be on the show more :)
