It always seemed like just the fact the cast feels relatable and very personality driven while also being very fantastical It also helps that blizzard at the start was like NO DONT MAKE PRON and that is a grade a way to say YES MAKE MORE PRON! lol like telling people no is a guaranteed way to ensure more.

@@st.haborym They all are intentionally kinda cliche and tropey on the surface, like being a cowboy, Reaper being edgy, or some with a twist like Winston is the meek scientist with anger issues aka Bruce Banner.
But in the time I've played Overwatch what separates its cast from other games is how they manage to portray them with the depth of fully-fledged characters even if it's an allusion. The conversations they have before the match starts and even the ones in gameplay like the voice lines for killing/saving characters, they all are written with the personality of the character and give you context to the world they exist in together and nothing felt like a throwaway line like other shooters.
@@lilwintery6434 It's called pandering. They're only doing it to take advantage of you, because they know that fake, arbitrary representation will make you want to give them money. Remember when Soldier 76 was retconned to be gay for literally no reason after being in the game for 4 years? It was extremely transparent to me that they were just virtue signalling, and when it was revealed that the people who worked at Blizzard/on Overwatch were huge misogynists, I wasn't the least bit surprised, because I saw that shit coming years before the scandal became public knowledge. It's called having foresight and insight.
It's so bad that Jim Sterling made a video on it. Like they literally have a cynical diversity checklist to maximize profits. They're not doing this for good reasons. It's literally just driven by pure predatory greed.
