I think the review was not very in-depth considering all this amp can do. It does however show that it is not just a "metal" amp, but is in fact versatile enough to cover nearly any genre anyone would want to play. For those that want a "metal one trick pony", just get a triple rectifier. I play predominately metal, but also like to play 80s and 90s rock, as well as some clean stuff. This amp can do it all.
The "metal" in this amp is very British, very EL84 ... progressive metal sounds are its forte ... and /or AC/DC-esque bite. One can play with the three 12ax7s to customize a bit. For "over the top" distortion just get a pedal or a pre-amp.
Boxy sound - poor audio isn't really a solid approach for an amp demo - trust me on this. And considering it's from Guitar Player - there's really no excuse. Compare the sound on Brett Kingman's demo of this amp to see how it's done, folks...
Awesome, this was a real demo, the way it was supposed to be presented to get an idea how the amp sounds.Rob Chapman in his video made an idiotic presentation of this amp,I guess it was the way he is.
For recording, yes, but not to then send it back out to the speaker cab. The USB send on this unit is staged after the power amp tubes so there's no later input to get the effects back out of your mac and into this prior to the speaker output.
Great.... another metal amp reviewed in the style of classic rock.

I think this guy was deliberately playing poorly as to be like the "Tone King" so wimps aren't intimidated.

Thany you !

The eq seems unconvincing, am I wrong ?
so is this just for primarily use in a studio, or can i use this with a power amp into a 4x12 cab for playing live?
Indeed you can. Or you could just DI into the PA.
the pre boo boost
sorry...i'll never trust another gp amp review again

Wrong type of guitar player to demo this...
