    The most impactful modification I've done only cost me maybe $50 for some PEX and fittings. I re-ran all the fresh water lines under the cabinets up inside my camper instead of in the underbelly. Now they can't freeze in the winter so long as the interior is warm. I went through temperatures as low as -15 (with a -30 windchill) over the winter and had 0 issues with frozen lines.

    I have a 22' travel trailer. Since I am a solo traveler and sometimes work while on the road, I decided that I didn't need a queen bed. So, I removed the platform for the bed, which opened up a lot of space where I could put in a small desk with a mounting arm for two 24" monitors. The mounting arm allows me to tilt down the monitors, put pillows underneath them, and use bungee cords to secure them for travel. I removed the very uncomfortable jackknife sofa and put in a twin mattress. What's left of the bed platform was turned into a "closet" covered by a curtain, where I keep my laundry basket, extra blankets/linens and a few other items. Now, if I ever decide to sell this trailer, I can reverse everything I did to return it to its original layout (all of the parts are in storage). But, these modifications were easy and work much better for me and how I travel.

    one thing I helped with in my folks rig and plan on doing in mine, is with the pantry and a few other cabinets is build a roll our rack so instead of having to reach all the way in and search for what I need, everything slides right out, nice and organized and I grab what I need. Makes life easier.

    • @joycemoses2411
      @joycemoses2411 Рік тому +3

      @@neilrankin9945 The name of the temperature gauge: SensorPush. It is a small device (around the size of a matchbook) that sets inside your refrigerator. You read the temperature on the company's app. The price is around $50 for one sensor/device. It is helpful because the less times you open the refrigerator door, the cooler your refrigerator will stay.

    One of my favorites is also a weight saving one, to put a shelf in a large storage bay, buy a folding table the size that will fit horizontally in the bay and just make support legs using the table as the shelf making it double duty and not having the added weight of a sturdy shelf.

    Our most important mods were to rid our trailer of traditional RV products, such as Dometic appliances and WFCO converter. We replaced our AC, stove, refrigerator, and charger/converter. We also added lithium batteries, MPPT solar charger, marine battery charger, and DC2DC alternator charger. While expensive, these have had the most lasting and important impacts. For medium cost mods, the Froli Travel system for our queen mattress is great. On the lower cost end, our mods have been screen door towel bar, replacing MaxFan controller, LED step light (marine deck light), and additional USB charging ports.

    We have small dogs, and what I did for our screen door was to simply cut a plate of plexiglass about 18-20" high from the bottom and used strong double sticky tape to fasten the edges. This has worked out extremely well for us and has lasted for several years (since we purchased our RV). It was super easy to do and super easy to install.

    Like the air fryer install and it looks like you may vent to the outside from the rear of the appliance. I’m researching replacing a microwave in a cabinet but don’t have the 2-4” rear clearance required by most manufacturers and no vent. Be careful with air fryers y’all

    We placed inexpensive puck lights with motion sensors in the cabinets. You can buy the rechargeable USB version or simple AAA battery version. The light stays on for about 15 seconds once the door is closed. It was a game changer! We also added vent covers. I never understood why they arent standard issue from the factory. Command hooks (decorative) for hoodies, towels, etc. Command makes great bathroom accessories that have held up for 2 years. Impressive considering the temperature changes. Bed lift struts saved us a lot of aggravation. Worth the effort. Simple, small free-standing shelves in our pantry worked well too. Thanks for all the useful tips!

  • @riccochet704
    @riccochet704 Рік тому +4

    Another cheap mod we did was use one of those velcro on door window covers on the skylight in the shower. It really cuts down on the amount of light/heat coming it, which helps a lot when camping in open areas in the summer. Another thing we did was bought a bunch of multi-socket outlet extenders/surge protectors with high output USB plugs on them. Put them everywhere in our RV. At $15 each they helped a lot. Plus it's now easy to charge up a phone or other device with just a USB cable. And those command strip hooks make awesome fishing rod holders. I put them on the ceiling and hang my rods up there out of the way when not in use.

    We have only done a couple of mods. #1 was a master disconnect switch off the battery. 2nd was to mount a whole home canister filter like you’ve done in the wet bay. Last, and this is the $5 one, we cut up some pool noodles to put around the bottom of the factory blackout curtains so that when we sleep with the windows open, they don’t bang.
    Another favorite is we’ve got some mini pull out shelves in the cabinet above where your table is.

    Nice set of mods. I did basically the same thing with adding those USB charging ports in the bedroom. I used the ones with USB-A and USB-C ports. Like you, I took it apart and used electrical tape to cover the LED. I also added one of these to each bunk in the bunkhouse. Now the kids have better access to charging ports. And I recently added vent covers to all the vents. That is a life saver when boondocking and it is raining or, like you said, to always be able to have ventilation in the bathroom.

    My water heater, pump and filter are inside the pass through storage door on the left side, but the only switch to control the pump was inside the trailer, in the kitchen. Siphoning antifreeze to winterize meant lots of running back and forth, and bashing my knee once too often on the coupler as I went by. So I installed a second toggle switch the cargo bay, in series with the first.

      Make sure there’s no framing between light fixture and where you want to place the socket. Safest would be right below it. Then fish a wire inside the wall to your opening for the usb socket. You might have to make the hole behind the light a bit bigger for fishing. Hope this helps.

We filter our water with the clearsource virus guard 3 filter system a portable water softener, and have UV at the drinking spigot. I recently came across some articles on ozone being used over bleach etc for sanitizing. what i was thinking of using was the spare built in filter bucket on our class a for the area where we would bubble in the ozone, excess ozone would just vent out of our fresh tank over flow.

    My travel trailer came with the thin shade in the entry door. I really, REALLY did not like that thing. It never hung straight, it is not even remotely impervious to rain, and … let’s say it’s starting to get dark and you want the extra privacy. How do you open both the exterior door and the screen door, step outside, close the screen door, step up to pull down the shade, then reopen the screen door and reclose both doors withOUT letting every gnat and mosquito in the area inside your RV?! Such a horribly bad design. I removed the shade and installed privacy clingfilm and, now, I have privacy without all the bugs.

    I tried the command hooks and wire shelving but the hooks didn't hold. I used the heavy weight versions just like you. I am assuming either the temperature change inside an RV or the vibration of traveling caused them to come loose.

    Hi Jared
    QUESTION: You're the only guy that I can actually trust to tell me what to do. Jared I had to stop being a nomad traveling all over America because I became disabled on the road bummer. Now I am plugged in to shore power And I have 2
    6 volt batteries for the house. They have an on and off switch so I knew that if I let the electricity I'm plugged into go to the batteries And leave that switch on the on position it would charge up the batteries. Then some RV guy told me No you are going to OVERCHARGE your house batteries. He said turn the house battery switch to off, and once a week turn the swith to ON for 5 hours then back to off. Do this once a week.
    Then I saw him yesterday and he said he thought about it and it doesnt matter if the swith is always off or always on.
    Jared I am so CONFUSED. I am a 65 year old Nomad who cant travel anymore.
    I am Super Stupid about this. Can you tell me simply what to do?!?!? Thanks so much

      Most RVs now have a multi stage converter charger in them and you can leave it plugged in and the battery connected without worrying about over charging the battery bank. We leave ours connected when on shore power all the time.

    I bought a couple of the same USB ports and hate it. The plugs don't seem to seat well and one of them just broke on me after 6 months. I have some of the round ones that are much more substantial, but require a larger hole.

    Hello, I am a lithium battery manufacturer from China. We mainly produce and export lithium batteries for RVs, with product voltages of 12V, 24V, and 48V. The battery capacity is available in single units of 100AH, 200AH, 300AH, and can be used in parallel. A single battery comes with a Bluetooth monitoring app, and GPS modules can also be customized according to customer needs. The continuous current of the BMS protection board can reach 250A, but we suggest that the battery discharge current should not exceed 1C. I hope to have the opportunity to serve you.

    Thin shades are great, but they only last a few years and have issues staying in the frame.
    Save ur 50$ plus money and make your own out of reflective material.

      Reflectix window coverings are a good one. We made them for our windows but typically only use them when we are trying to control extreme hot or cold.

    I have not been a fan of the Thin Shade. It never folds up correctly without much help. Our favorite cheap mods are knife rack, vent covers, usb outlets, and my personal favorite...the Lippert Solid Step. And we can't live without x-chocks but thats more of an accessory than mod.
