I level our Blackstone by leveling our foldout table as best as possible, which I often use a couple of the plastic leveling blocks, and final adjustments by unscrewing the feet on the Blackstone. You don't need shims. Obviously, you can only unscrew so far.
I LOVE THIS CHANNEL He always gets to the point and explains everything so well.
Appreciate that!
Agree totally
I never pass up a chance to hear Ross when he adds a new video
Thanks Larry!
First time RVer (stationary) and first time viewer. Thank you so much!!!
We’re new to this channel!! Bought our first camper 2wks ago. So glad that you are clear and direct! No fluff, moving around, taking a sip of water and other irritating things! Our FIRST camping trip is this weekend. You have helped us.
Awesome! Thank you!
I always keep the gray water valve closed just like the black water. After flushing the black water the grey water acts as a second flush that helps clean the line. Just be sure to watch your gauge because shower water fills it up really fast.
I'm with you, I do too, but some people overflow their shower tank so I wanted to mention this as an option.
The trap with your slinky is a good one.
Thanks for watching!
The blackstone hacks are genius!
Niiiice short video with excellent tips/hacks!!!
Something I do for the spare tire lug nuts is apply just a dab of never seize on the threads. This allows for an easier time to get it off if its been sitting there for a while.
Thanks Mike!
Love these hacks videos Ross! Blew my mind with the lock on the X Chocks. 😂 Always wondered what the heck those holes were for!
Thanks brother. 🍻
You have great tips Ross and love all of the tip, tricks and hacks you provided in both volumes. 👏
thanks bud, hope you're doing well up there!
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS yes, doing well despite closing up at the campsite next weekend until May 2023.
We had an older camper that we'd take on rough roads to get to remote areas. The drawers and even the fridge would open sometimes. I solved the problem by using toddler proof clips. They were always visible, yes, but the doors never opened again with the safety clips.
ua-cam.com/video/Q7ZJzfimLwg/v-deo.html
The storage steps are AWESOME!😮
Thanks so much for the Boshield tip. My tt is brand new and, already, the stabilizers are so incredibly rusted that it’s a challenge to open/close them. I’ve been trying to figure out what the best approach might be and, while I’ve found reference to lubes, nothing was telling me how to remove that rust. THANK YOU!! And the griddle shim tip is brilliant! I’m cutting boxes right now!
Glad to help. Watch this one: 💥 RV Rust Prevention & Lubrication - Is Boeshield T-9 Really That Good?

I also enjoy his videos. He’s clear and consise. He’s videos on winterizing my trailer was the most clear and understandable that I’ve come across. Thx.
Appreciate that Scott.
Child proof catches work well on drawers
My hubby and I are complete novice when it comes to camping, but have both just retired and want to get a small RV to finally travel our own country side. We have been watching video after video and it's great to hear all the hacks and tips from the EXPERTS!!!! Thanks so much. . .we love your channel!
Glad to help, and thank you for watching Lisa!
Another excellent video full of info🎉

some anti seize on threads of spare and trailer wheel studs too
Love this content. Very good for people like me just starting out
then youll like this one too: ua-cam.com/video/Adtt79XZ6Zc/v-deo.html
In the process of doing my homework on campers so this channel was an instant subscribe. We’re about a year and a half away from probably being able to get one so this channel will come in handy to have everything we’ll need when our time comes.
THANK YOU for subscribing. Many more to come!
Great stuff, thank you!
My pleasure!
Thanks Ross for another useful and very informative video !
Glad to help Lish, thanks for being a part of the channel!
Hey Ross, thanks for doing these videos and sharing your thoughts. We've been camping for 30 years and I have learned a few things and appreciated some of your hacks as well, like the command hooks in the sky-light. I also noticed the Knoebel's hoodie and the park in the background in a short video shot. That park is our families favorite and has been for nearly as long as we've been camping.
Keep up the good work, my friend!
That’s awesome Scott! We go every year and camp in the campground for one of the Halloween weekends. Been going there since I was a kid. Great place. Don’t be a stranger if you ever see me there!
I just discovered your channel and I'm liking it. Thanks
Welcome!
Good tips. I added a turn button to a drawer that I couldn't keep shut with magnetic catches. No place to easily mount roller catches either.
Great video, thanks. One hack we have…remove the cosmetic front panel on the bed support. This allows access to two small/medium dog kennels and a dirty clothes basket without lifting the mattress. The pups put themselves to bed every night! Thanks again! Ps…your AC hacks worked great and I’m working on that step/storage box.
Awesome thanks RB!
Love your video's..i think i've watched them all at least twice..you would make an excellent instructor
Wow, thanks!
Leave your gray tank valves closed. Then you open them after you dumped your black tank for a flush of your hoses... happy camping...
Good tips. Thanks again
For drawers and cabinets you could also install the kid proof latches
More Black tank advice is if your setup is long term (a month or more) and you use a massarator because you can't dump fast from your tank, I dump into a Blue Boy first to get the tanks to empty fast then run the Massarator off the blue boy tank, if you always use the Massarator on the RV outlet solids won't flush out properly and you will get a sludge buildup anyway. It's easier to flush a blue boy than the tanks in your RV . The RV tanks won't evacuate properly if it's emptied slowly.
Great hacks and tips. Thx, you’ve given us some good ideas.
Glad to help Dan.
Great tips Ross.
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you for some awesome ideas!
here are some more: ua-cam.com/video/Adtt79XZ6Zc/v-deo.html
The griddle hacks, gonna use 👍. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, good to hear from you again bud.
Love the info! Newbie RV’r here so all the help I can get.
Thank you Stacey
Bed step was a game changer with the storage. Nice.
Thanks Robert
P.s
Enjoy your channel..straight and to the point...good.
Thank you.
Thanks for watching Nick!
Great tips as always
Thanks Christina!
I laughed when he said "The longer the stroke the less work required" yes im immature lol
🤣
Another great video thanks I appreciate it and yes Todd is pretty awesome
No doubt!
Love your content, so clearly spoken and the editing is so well done.. Few of our tips come to mind,. if you have an awning with support right where the door wants to open into it, when it not in the tent vertical position but still clipped to latch, take piece of pool foam noodle 6inch, slit it lengthwise and place it on the awning bar where the door would hit it as buffer. Anothet one is the battery box. The vents on top. Water always got in thru ours , just minute but it was enough to sit and fill the wells in plastic housing where the screws in bottom are. Rusting them perpetually. Put some Rtv silicone on the vent holes in box lid and problem solved. It is not air tight lid by any means so any gas from battery could not accumulate under there even if you begged it to.
Great tips, thanks for adding Jim!
Also... Make sure the lug nuts on your spare are the same size as your camper wheels or you have that size socket or lug nut wrench.
Yup, Jayco put mine on with a different size and I didn't have that size when I needed it!!!
Thank you for getting straight to your tips without a bunch of unnecessary rhetoric!
Thanks for sharing.
I really like your videos and tips.
we're new to rv lifestyle and your tips are giving me really good ideas to not make rookie mistakes or make the less possible
Thank you! Hope they’re helping!
Great information
Thanks Richard, here’s another you might like: 7 Things You're Not Doing to Your RV... but SHOULD!

Made wife happier and more storage just put orientation block that I flip up cover ,got 2ft×2ft carpet ends cheap from Menards .Storage a plus plus bed storage mod perfect .No more lifting bed ,much easier to access under bed. Height on mirror excellent idea. 👌
I just nailed all my drawers shut. Lol!
No nonsense and great info.
Thanks Bob
Anti seize copper paste works great on all metals and threads.
Excellent Ross!! Enjoyed your suggestions! speaking of which looks like your rig has a TV. any suggestions for securing the TV that is mounted to a swing arm ie up and down vibrations from rough roads?
if you tighten down the bolts in the swing arms to increase the friction you may be able to get them more rigid so they are tougher to move. you can also use velcro straps. this is a great question and maybe something I cover in my next hacks video.
I like the roller catch idea better than the child safety latches I have all over mine.
Thanks!
Love it!
Thanks!!
Thanks, Ross!
Thanks for watching and commenting Daniel!
Great tips Ross how about a spare tire cover with your logo on it it will protect your tire and lugs
I'm working on that Corey!
I have one of your hacks already, the pry bar.I don’t like leaving my hitch on my car when all set up at a campsite.I bought a receiver and bolted it on the trailer frame just behind the blue ox swivel on the frame. I remove my ball hitch and slide it on to the receiver, nice no more bruised shins.
Great idea, I’ve smashed my shins more than I can count. Good to hear from you Fred.
Love the hacks. Thanks.
I think a mirror reversed trailer hight decayed on the front of the trailer, so it can be read in the rear view mirror is a good way to keep it handy.
Good call!
I have always carried a battery charger in our rig. If your converter goes bad during your stay, you won't have any 12 volt lights because the batteries won't be charging from the shore power. Connect the battery charger to charge your batteries and you'll have lights again until you can replace the converter.
Thanks for adding to the video!
Good tips. My tip for cabinet doors that keep opening is to install some child proof cabinet locks. Your tip is good too.
Great tip!
Command Velcro strips for drawers, cupboards, medicine cabinets that open on the road...
thanks for adding!
Good hacks… I don’t secure my cabinets but I did add a couple locks to two of my drawers that I’ve crunched behind a slide twice lol
havent had that happen yet but I'm sure its a matter of time.
Add folded paper towels in blackstone drip pan in addition to foil.
Yes! Thanks!
Great tips
Glad you like them!
Thanks again for another great video! I have a couple tips you can share.
For the slide out rubber seals in and out I clean them and use tire foam on rags to keep the rubber softer and protected from weather so it doesn’t give me any problems.
I also keep my knife valves closed because a camper I met left his open at a site and a rat climbed up through the sewer - he heard noises under his toilet in the black tank his wife freaked out.
I saw a roof vent open lid blow off a camper on the highway it hit a motorcycle the guy wiped out.
Thank you, I might steal one of these for my next video.
Yes! Foil!
Good information.
Thanks for always watching Tim!
It was very nice to have met you yesterday at the Hershey show! Will you be going to The Tampa show?
likewise! probably not, but would love to!
You can also get the baby latches for a few bucks. I used them to keep my cat out of his food cabinet. 😉
Supper awesome
Thank you! Cheers!
Hack: for drawers and cabinets opening, another hack is to use baby/infant catches for bathrooms or kitchen. They work great and are easy to use.
Thanks for sharing!!
One thing I have done before we dump the grey tank is to pour about 4 to 5 ounces of Simple Green down each drain. This not only makes the drain smell fresh but more importantly it breaks down any oil/grease that may have washed into the drain and tank. I run hot water down the drain then dump the grey tank. We always travel with about a gallon or so of water in the grey tank and a couple of gallons in the black tank. With over 20 years of RVing and we have never had any issues with our grey or black tanks.
Thanks for adding Kirk!
For those drawers that keep popping open you can use child safety locks. You can by one's that you can turn on and off so they're not such a pain in the ass when you're set up (non travel days)
we bought ours used, and the owner before us put child lock on the cabinet doors. nice hack
Hi Ross , yours Canadian fans ,Randy this spring built my version of steps made 1 on my side of bed and 2 on wife's side made 1×6 " ,then 1x10"
Nice!
Baby latches would work on those cabinets also im just thinking.. to help keep them closed in transit. Humm
they would definitely work too.
Child lock also work to prevent drawers and cabinets from opening on their own
great idea!
Very helpful. Do you recommend an app that calculates height restrictions during a route? Thanks.
Something I’ve never looked into, sorry I can’t help but I know there are a couple videos on this.
You mention in many videos about stabilizer jacks, when should they be used? I store mine for winter but go in often to hang lol should I still not use them? And how about if it’s being parked for the summer?
you can leave them down if you are keeping an eye on your tires... watch this: ua-cam.com/video/64uSmOe5JNA/v-deo.html
We just purchased our new Grand Design 310GK-R yesterday. Would like your opinion on whether you think a third party inspection is necessary on a new RV.
A lot of people are doing that for even new rvs. It’s a good idea IMO.
Can you do a video on permanent RV's in camp grounds? I am a new owner of a permanent RV in a campground resort. Many of your tips can be used on this type of RV I know, but would like to know what is different in maintenance of my type of RV & the travel RV's you talk about. Thanks!
Not much difference, you just won’t have to maintain the moving parts as much…. Tires, wheel bearing grease, etc… things will be easier if the unit is permanently parked. Just follow owners manual maintenance time frames as usual.
Question, stack blocks under your stabilizers. So Jack pads are useless, they don’t add one bit more stability because the connection between the foot on both are are the same. You push Jack pads. What am l missing?
Hey Greg, I'm a little confused on your question, but Ill try to answer what I think you are asking.... whether you're using blocks or the ground, snap jacks still add increased surface area over the foot that comes on the factory stabilizer jacks. I have definitely noticed not only increased stability using blocks and the ground, but also noticed much less of an occurance of having to reset the jacks after the trailer has settled.
I’m wondering if leaving the gray water open would allow the various bits of whatever and greasy stuff to flow out immediately, rather than settle to the bottom of the tank. Also, seems like the P traps in the sink and shower would keep any gasses from coming back into the living space, thus eliminating the need to create a belly in the hose. Anyway, that’s my two cents, but you’re way more experienced than I, so, it’s only one cent 😊…thanks for your tips.
Good points Tony. What I’ve found with tanks though is that they are flat on the bottom, and depending on how level your camper is, rinsing something down the sink doesn’t mean it’s going to stay with the water and immediately go down the tank drain, especially if it doesn’t float. You are correct about the drain traps too, but by creating the hose trap you keep sewer smells out of your gray tanks and out of the camper completely. It’s definitely a second line of defense, but if for some reason your drain trap water evaporates or dissipates, that could be bad. Appreciate the input and thanks for watching bud.
In the beginning your teased something about the AC shroud, but then didn’t cover it. Bamboozled! ;)
The height of the AC shroud is important to know since that’s almost always the highest point on an RV.
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS oh, that was the height one. ;)
Ross, Love your Videos, and yes I did subscribe. I am a Newbie, and your tips and Videos have help me out a lot. I have a camper which I bought, brand new in 2022, but I don't like it. It's a Great camper, but the layout is not for me. I want to upgrade to the one I want, but my Bad, I dealt with camping world, so I am screwed with getting anything for my trade, to upgrade to the unit I want. I do Love your Input with everything related to travel trailers. You have taught me A lot, and I Thank You. I have noticed that you are a Steelers Fan, I have always like them, but I like my Patriots a little more. I would like to hang out with you one day and just shoot the shit. Who knows, maybe a campsite here or there.
thank you Jack , if you are ever in PA, please let me know. First beer is on me!
You don't need a P trap in your hose! Every drain has a vapor lock already. The toilet has a seal and the black tank has a vent. If you have odors one of these isn't working properly.
fruit flies from the sewer can get into your pipes and into the rv if you leave gray tanks open without a p trap.
Regarding the gray valves being open and leaving a trap in the hose... Not a bad idea, but completely unnecessary in the vast majority of cases. Every sink, shower, and tub drain will, itself, have a trap itself. This is what keeps the gray tank stink from backing up into the camper. Any sewer stink that might back up as a result of leaving the valve open will vent out the roof.
That stink *may* find it's way back into an open window or roof vent, but it's not coming thru the drains. Leaving a trap in the stinky slinky will help prevent that from occurring.
some good hacks, i've kept some wood (1/4 " by 1 by 4) with my grill to level it . the grease hack i've also been doing. i didn't want to leave any grease/food with the grill to attract bugs or ants or animals. guess we think alike
Haha! Thanks for watching Doug!
Couldn’t find the link to the training video
Here you go: rvtechcourse.com/?ref=rvtips&travels
what about some velcro on those doors and drawers that won't stay closed
a great idea too, thanks for sharing Gary.
Need to put a lock on that spare
thanks for watching and commenting!
Where is the tip about the AC cover on the roof ?
Knowing the height of your rv, it’s at the ac unit. You forgot to push pause when you went for popcorn 😜
If you leave your shower gray tank open all the time, in some campgrounds after your shower you will get a very bad smell come back through the drain into your bathroom.
If you create a vapor barrier in the hose you won’t have that issue.
So... I stuck around and nothing was mentioned about the ac shroud
It’s the highest point on the RV. It’s the first tip mentioned.
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS ahh
No problem, I can see how it could be missed. Thanks for watching bud.
Don't look at your owner's manual not every RV is the same measure it That's the only way you can be 100% sure how tall it is
very true
Stick around and I'll tell you what it is.. stuck around and he didnt tell me what it was..
The height of the ac shroud is the overall height of the rv, which is the first tip in the video. Guessing you didn’t watch the video lol?
