I have a friend in Lansing, Michigan with the same condition. I've been blessed to know Marion Wilson for several decades. She played several favorites at my Mother's funeral~
The length of time you held the last chord was chilling. I was thinking, Oh wow! Derek is so into the music that a single sustained chord is melodic. Loved it.
To behold a man, accomplished and joyous, savoring the sweetness of life, though nature, so often bountiful, withheld the gifts she bestows so liberally upon most of us, fills my heart with a profound and delicate joy. Yet, one cannot ignore how arduous this path must have been, how much patience, perseverance, and tireless effort must have been summoned to reach such heights. In these few minutes of grace this video offers us, we do not see the countless hours of toil endured by the artist, the devotion of his mentors, nor the daily battles demanded by a life marked by a different melody, a rhythm the world struggles to follow. And yet, the triumph so radiantly visible here is a beacon of hope for souls like my son, whose future, I dare to dream, may shine with an equal brilliance.
Derek, this is fantastic! The Final Fantasy games have some of my favorite themes from video games, and you do such a great job of making them more, so I hope you'll listen to and play many more. After this and your Terra's theme though, the first that comes to mind would be Final Fantasy 7's Aerith's theme, and also the Final Fantasy Prelude music, of which there are several versions that are almost all great. You have got to be the greatest improv player in existence. To hear something once and then turn it into something more than it ever was, on the fly, has to be one of the coolest things I've ever seen. Seriously, if you like doing this with game themes, there are a bunch I would love to hear. Someday, I'd also love to hear you do a rendition of Super Mario Bros. 2 Overworld Theme. Your Jazzy stuff so much reminds me of that for some reason. Thanks for all the hours you put here, I've enjoyed every one I've sat and listened to. Please keep them coming, I love seeing your videos in my feed.
AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH! Yes! This is the one! This is the piece I recommended in a comment here some time ago! I'm not sure if that's why Derek played it now, but I'm happy to take credit :P But yeah, this piece (or more specifically the version of it on the Piano Collections album, which is a series of albums that contain solo piano versions of Final Fantasy tracks) inspired me to buy a digital keyboard close to two decades ago now. Unfortunately I wasn't a very diligent or talented student, so these days my keyboard sits silently in the corner, gathering dust. Nevertheless, I learned how to play the first minute or so of the Piano Collections version, and even that small achievement brought me much pride and happiness. Of course, it took me weeks of difficult struggle and brain-straining learning to do even that, so to see Derek effortlessly go above and beyond with this piece makes me somewhat envious :P Anyway, thanks so much for playing this piece, Derek, you did an amazing job with what really is one of my favourite pieces of music of all time. I got genuinely emotional listening to it. And for anyone who enjoyed this, I strongly recommend seeking out the Piano Collections version of this piece. It's incredible, in fact it very much reminds me of something Derek might create!

It's unreal what the human brain is capable of and how well it adapts to the loss of a sense.
Pls introduce him to Genshin Impact music, there's a huge audience waiting for him worldwide!
